Holt's search for TOfD gear **FINITO!!** ( well,....Almost )

Post by Holt »

Hey.

Being strictly an LC guy, I do like to change it up from time to time.. And temple of doom gear has allways been so mysterious to me. More so then Raiders.

I like to start of the quest with showing and original Webely holster with the gun belt.

Now, In Temple of Doom the rig allways seemed black to me. Although it is probably very dark brown, I chose Black for the holster and gunbelt as it gives the most Temple vibe.

Both are heavy weathered. The belt is something I found on ebay. It's a heavy duty 1.25'' wide cowhide belt with silver squarish buckle. Like the original. It was the closest I could find at the time.

Here it is. Ask me and I will tell you I love it! :D

Opinions are Welcome ofc. :TOH:

If you can raise Minnesota Jones, ask him about the color. He owns the film used original, but all his photos are now gone.

He's still reachable via email or FB, though. Send him an email from his profile here.

Hey,

So finally I found the very rare Temple of doom bag with the 3 drain holes, no side disk and 2 D rings for the cord as seen in the bridge scene where the bag takes fire. I know the Temple Hero bag is the standard MKVII like in the other movies, however, this is such an iconic and rare bag I wanted this particular item to be my Temple of doom bag.

I allready weathered it to match what I see on screen. I also cut the cord like on screen and I am now playing with the idea of sewing on the green patch we see on the front side of the bag.

And as allways, opinions are very welcome :TOH:

I always liked the 3 hole bag. Isn't it a MKV instead of the MKVII the bag typically is?

I think the green patch was added to give an outside pocket to place the explosive/flame material in, as that's where the pyrotechnics starts when Indy pulls the ignition cord (the side strap HE'S holding).

I always look for that part, as Ford struggles to get the thing to ignite.

I vote no patch. Hey. You can always add one day but hard to go back once you commit. Tape a patch on and try it for awhile. Maybe you will get a better idea then.
Course with the type of material it would not be too hard to remove with little evidence you ever had the patch save for any weathering you do in addition.

Or you can go over the barn and go super accurate.... adding the pyrotechnics and the ignition string for a great party trick

So, alittle update to the holster.. and if you might think doesn't Holt ever rest??.. then let me tell you, no I don't, I want to but in reality I do not sleep. I tend to get alittle obsessive with projects I start... I know ](*,)

So the flap on my webely holster is bigger from the orginal Temple holster. Alittle cutting and I ended up pretty close to the original temple holster. I know the strap is alittle missplaced but I can live with that. The flap being bigger and the different strap placement might be because the temple was a ww1 and mine is a ww2 version. Anyways...

The flap is shorter now. I took of a good half inch and I think it looks MUCH nicer than before. The lines of the flap flow way better with the body now. I love it.

Update:

Weathered the strap. Indys bagstrap allways looked so completly torn up. I also belive some of the producers told that the strap was beat to beyond. Lookin at the screen caps the Doom strap really looks beat up. Almost dry rotted.

I tried to get as close as possible.

Also sporting the correct flat roller buckle.

Next up is the web belt with the aged brass buckle.

The strap looks perfect. Do you have the buckle curving down correctly? It looks to be curving up in that photo.

Used belt sander, wire wheel brush and other stuff then greased and buffed.
What did you do?

I did pretty much the same. I also used a blow torch to crack it alittle. Then buffed it with pecards.

I have 4 straps so I wasn't to worrie about destroying one.

Thanks :TOH:

Allthough the bag is just seen at the bridge scene, to me it really has become the main temple bag and I would not have it any other way. It's become a real favorite as it's so rare.

Here is a teaser shot. I present the Doomer shirt.

This is not the main Temple shirt I am gonna use of course, but for those hardcore scenes, This will do just fine. :TOH:

It's been replicated as close as possible to the real thing. The trick was to create a natural blend of the washed out sweat and blood in the back. The blood should not look out of place.

I personally love it.

You can get a nice idea of how well everyhting blends together. The aged strap and the heavy weathered coyote brown web belt.

The strap is going to be weathered some more when I have the time.

That's brilliant! I had wondered if anybody had done, or would do, an authentic Doom shirt as it's pretty much 'ruined' from all the punishment it takes. It's unmistakable, great job

Post by Holt »

Well, here it is.. My temple gear! This has been fun but I am glad it is over actually. I am pretty done with the temple. I truly know now deep inside that I am a pure Last Crusade man. :D :whip:

But anyways, this sure has been a fun project. Especially the jacket!!! :whip:

In these shots, I tried to stay away from the typical full gear shots. You know, standing in full gear in my backyard with the lawnmower as an extra. I think those can be slightly boring to do. Instead I wanted to do something slightly different and just trying to do my favorite looks of Indy in Temple of Doom.

First up is the soaked shredded look. Water, water, water!.....oh... WATER!!!!!

Bear in mind that everything here is wet and it should be. Shirt, holster, belts, strap, pants. So those items looks darker then what they really are.

Gear:

Shredded Indy:

Hat: Akubra fed 4. / Village tapered hat.
Shirt: Todds ( shredded)
Pants: Wested ( shredded )
Boots: Alden distressed.
Holster: Original webely
Web belt: distressed Coyote brown with aged brass buckle
Super whip holder ( Wade Egan? Can't remember)
Gunbelt: Temple'ish belt I found on ebay
WHip: My one and only super sweet Pagey whip / 9ft . 12p in Morgan hide.
Strap: Wade Egan ( shredded )
Bag: Original Mk 6 End scene Temple bag with 3 vent holes. (pictured above)

EDIT

And now, To what I really look forward showing of! This is my absolute favorite Temple Indy look. The village end scene without his holster rig. The clothing he has one when he brings the Sankara stone back. The return of the Hero look!!!!

When I think of Temple Indy this is how I see him. So obviously I wanted to recreate this.

Village Indy Gear:
Hat: Fed 4 / Village tapered hat.
Jacket: Super accurate Wested 1:1 Harrison Ford size in thin dark lamb ( Shredded )
Shirt: Azuma LC / Temple shirt, distressed. ( LOVE the shirt btw!)
Pants: Wested custom. Washed, rewashed and Distressed.
Belt: Distressed Coyote brown webbelt with aged brass buckle
Boots: Alden Distressed.
Whip: Pagey / 9ft, 12p in Morgan Hide.
Sankara Stone from Kim on the Run
Stone cloth wrap
Hand bandage

I hope you liked it! :D Feel free to share your opinion. :TOH:

Next up is my favorite Indy in Last Crusade. The Brunwald Castle Indy or maaaaaaaby Raiders Cairo / Well of souls. ( I know I promissed a good friend to do Raiders.... but LC is creeping up.. AGAIN  )

Thanks my friends.

I have updated the holster and gunbelt to the correct and 100% SA ones, I've also updated the hat to llok like the village hat with the dome shaped crown.

The end scenes village look without the gunrig is my absolute favorite Temple Indy look. Hence why I try to pull it of above with the stone and bandage

Awesome gear Holt, your attention to detail is impressive.

may I ask a technical question. What/how did you replicate the sweat, I want to do this to Raiders shirt. I want something that is more along the lines of a permanent sweat look.

Holt;
This model is the gas bag, V correct , flip open the cover and it should say 1939 V that's the one with three drainage holes on bottom holes and no side drainage holes with D rings, and cord strings but mine would a reproduction.
