....and then there were 3.....

Post by Texan Scott »

It's been a long and interesting ride to this point, but I finally narrowed it down to 3. Some were difficult to get rid of, but no reason to have multiple strips of leather just hanging there in the closet, so over the years, I sold them. One of the more difficult decisions was the BK #6, but it was on the large side, and I would have had to do a major overhaul to the jacket, just to get it to fit properly. In fact, BK said they would not do the work, so I was able to sell it on Ebay for a good price. Anyway, I narrowed it down to the "keepers", and they are the G&B goat (it too was cut down and overhauled, the 44 pits measured 27"), Wested copper novapelle-which was made to resemble a LC jacket with an emphasis on comfort and fit, and a truly great find in old stock SL leather. The pattern was also modified slightly, in a Raiders jacket. Previously, I'd asked if they had any old stock SL, the stiffer and slightly thicker leather, but darker. If you remember, the older SL was almost caramel in color? Great leather, but the color was not there. Several weeks later, I received an email saying that they had found this older batch stuck away somewhere in the barn, and would I like to order one? Would I..? :-k It really made an outstanding jacket and a real keeper.

What have you whittled it down to?

Down to 15............. :o

G&B
S&J
Todds
WPG
Kelso
Lottery Jacket
Various Wested
Various US Wings

I have sold a couple and donated a couple to charity. I do plan on reducing over time and have no intentions of keeping that many jackets. One day I looked in the couple wall lockers I keep my coats in and went #### - you have too many Indy jackets.

If I had to get it down today, I would keep:

G&B Goat
S&J Cow
USW Legend Steerhide
Wested Raiders Goat
Kelso SL

I still have....
Custom S&J in ultra-thin lamb
#3 Relic Hunter in some of the most gorgeous leather I have ever seen in my life! Striated Lamb. Thinking about selling it off to get their slightly thinner version but I just haven't been able to bring myself to do it. ](*,)
5 Wested jackets....
An OTR Hero in standard lambskin which I wear more than any of them as it is the softest and most lightweight of them all.
A Hero in some super cool shunker lamb which is not exactly right in color but the leather just looks so darn cool. I love just looking at.
A specially made Hero in thin thin cowhide which I purchased off Whiskeyman. While it looks like any standard lambskin Hero, it "feels" like an Indy jacket should feel if that makes any sense. A beauty to wear.
A cotton OTR Raiders. Kinda stiff and loOKs great on as long as I'm not moving....don't know if it will break in in any form but it moves very boxy.
And of course, no collection would be complete without one standard very old version Todd''s Raiders jacket. Feels kinda like plastic but darn if it doesn't look the part in pictures and sillouhettes in a way that no other jacket does. Use this one mainly for Halloween and event like require a costume
And I'm still looking to pair this collection down but I just haven't been able to decide who should go. My want list is only a Relic Hunter Cairo in the thin thin lamb and a US Wings Legend in Kangaroo.

Um, 3. A US Wings Steerhide Legend, and two Todd's. The first one is a medium that's too small but I was too lazy to return it so my son will get it some day, and the much better fitting size large.

Although I'd love to have a BK or a S&J I just can't talk myself into spending more $ on leather jackets when I already have 2 wearable Indy's and several other leather flight and motorcycle jackets. I'd rather spend the money on guns!

Hector, I'd like to see that Wested Standard lamb, if you have any pics laying around. Sometimes, it's like....back to basics...? D-rings on it?

I only have 3 Indy jackets:

* 1998 Wested Raiders lamb; my very first Indy jacket, not worn but kept for sentimental value
* 2008 Wested CS novapelle custom; 100% perfect jacket in fit, comfort, and style
* 2012 Wested LC custom pre-distressed cowhide; bought from another COW'er, re-sale pending

One - G&B goat.

I've only ever had two Indy's. The first a Wested Goat LC from 2002. The pockets were totally wrong so I sold it off.

G&B ticks the boxes I wanted ticked. A jacket like the movie version, only much tougher and properly made. Job done. :TOH:

After accumulating something around 10, a significant loss of weight (timed with a budget shrinking that is still holding), I'm down to 3. Only one is the correct size; a US Wings in that lightweight lambskin.
The others are my old size, and should really be sold off, but they were the most snug fitting of my collection, so I try to use them when I need an extra layer. Ironically, they are both US Wings Signature Series, which were known for running big! One is the lightweight cowhide, which served me so well on my cross-country trip to the QM. The other is a second hand black goatskit that has proven to be a tank.

I plan to replace both bigger ones some day, probably with a Magnolia (which I sorely miss), and a G&B, which I have never owned... If I can find a color I like in my size.

5 jackets here, but one isn't an Indy, but worth mentioning:

-2006 Wested in Dark Brown Lambskin, really inaccurate and over-sized for me, but my beater now
-2008 Tony Nowak Crystal Skull in SA cowhide, worn mostly in the winter, picked up from COW member jnicktem
-2009 Tony Nowak Raiders in Nowak Goatskin, hardly ever wear it (you were right, Gorak!), picked up from Gorak, who got it from orb
-2012 Bill Kelso South America/Hawaii Raiders in Striated Lambskin, the best and wear it as often as possible, picked up from orb

-And finally, the latest purchase, an early 1940s Sears Hercules Half Belt in front quarter Horsehide, picked up on ebay for a steal. Pristine condition. I had a 1950s Hercules, but sold it since the fit was too boxy. The 1940s model is much more form fitting.

I look on EBay at the vintage jackets but only see smaller sizes. Congrats on the Hercules!

The clothing drive people just picked up what my wife and I put out for collection. I was sad to see my Wested Hero in distressed cowhide, a US Wings Adventurer jacket and some other stuff leave. Never could bond with the Hero jacket and did not wear it. :(

Indy Jackets? 3.
1) Wested LC in Lamb. Sold it on ebay and told the buyer (Kevin Anderson on here) that I couldn't do it. It was a Father's Day present when my wife was pregnant with our first kid. So I won't make that mistake again.
2) Bill Kelso Relic Hunter in Victory Horsehide. My dream jacket. But strangely, it didn't fully scratch the itch. I still needed....
3) Bill Kelso Relic Hunter in Striated lamb

(Vanson Wolverine Origins (signed by Hugh!), Filmjackets War of the Worlds, Filmjackets Bruno)
(2 leather motorcycle jackets)
(3 textile motorcycle jackets)

3 plus a beater. all Westeds.

2007 LC in horsehide-Custom made and recently relined, at the barn, with moleskin for the winter. Great hide.
2012 A hero in soft goat. Around 3 years old now and breaking in nicely. 3 season jacket
2008- An OTR raiders in lamb- the version without facings and more like the hero pattern without the off the shoulder effect. Spring/early summer.

All get worn..natural ageing and better for that reason :M:

The beater. One of Peter's experiments with a washed lambskin. Held for the odd custom occassion.

No desire for more
