Is a Christy's Fedora worth having?
HI All, I currently have a real cheapy of a fedora and am looking at upgrading. I dont want to spend megabucks and see the Christy's fedora is available for about $160.
Does anyone here have any experience with it and what are your thoughts on it? Or is there anything else in that kind of price range that you prefer.
Thanks in advance

59. My current cheapy is a 60 and was a tad loose so I steamed it and shrunk it to fit.

I have a 57 I need rio sell. It gets no head time. In the price range you mentioned check out the Fed IV. There's a great exchange rate right now. It'll be still within your price range and is a great hat.

Re: Is a Christy's Fedora worth having?
I've had a few Christys, back when they made them in several different colors, like cork, sable and light sable. What Christy has going for it is that the felt is thin and the color, but for that price, I'd go Fed in the $150 range.
$200 will get you in a custom, better felt, materials such as sweatband, ribbon and bow work, custom fit to you:

The Christy isn't a bad hat, but it won't stand up to as much punishment as the Akubras, which fall is same price range. The workmanship is a bit better on Akubras, too. Sometimes the ribbon and sweatband attachments on Christy's are a bit slapdash.

Re: Is a Christy's Fedora worth having?
Thanks for the replies guys. Ive decided that with my hand on my heart I'm taking a leap from the lions head and going for a fed IV. As the colours dont preview would you get the dark brown or the tawny fawn? Or is it really worth the extra for the deluxe fed IV and go for dark brown or heritage fawn?
Thanks sgain.
Thanks sgain.

I have one and I like it a lot, but it was £60 at the time, they have gone up a bit since then.
It's a thin, simple hat, very much in the spirit of the original, all (?) rabbit and not 'high end'.
However, it is a real hat, not one of the chain store cardboard things.

Feds are good sturdy hats, hope the exchange rate gods are kind.

You'll like the Fed IV. That was my first hat for the first couple of years until I got an AB. Enjoy it!

Re: Is a Christy's Fedora worth having?
Oops. Well, sort of incomplete thought... or backwards... or something. If the exchange is due more to what's happening to the AUS dollar, that might effect the conversion to the British Pound a bit, too. I figure the U.S. dollar isn't doing much better than it has the last few years.Michaelson wrote:True, but doppelganger is in the UK, so......

But aren't there 2 different Christy's available for Indy? One was on their site, the other not as I recall.
I think - anyone know what I'm talking about?
