Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
Isn't the standard lambskin kinda awesome..... The other leathers have more personality to them in some cases but the standard lambskin really helps nail the jackets appearance, I feel. The lightweightness has allot to do with it but it always seems to carry off the look to me in all the photos I've seen you guys post.
I love my Relic Hunter skin, love love my Wested Shrunken lamb, but I have always kept my Wested Hero in standard lamb close by. Great jacket, dude

Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
Hi,
My first post here. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this jacket in Shruken Lamb. Was wondering on some sizing advice though. My measurements are 44 chest, my back is 26 in and sleeves is 30 in.
For my order, I'm thinking of buying a size 44 jacket with a 25.5 sleeve length and 25 inch back length. Will this fit me right? I'm also 5'7 and around 185 pounds.
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
1) Are your sleeves really 30"? For Indy jackets the convention is to measure from the tip of the shoulder to the middle knuckle of your hand.
Those measurements, sound about right. You will need to checking the sleeve tho. BUT it's always better to err on slightly long on the sleeve, it's a fairly simple procedure to shorten them, but not to lengthen.

Hi KT
Thanks for your help. You are right, my sleeve measurement is wrong. I was measuring from my neck down to my arm. Well my mom did ha. But I just checked on my own and my sleeve is about 25". I also just measured my favorite jacket (which is a size large off the rack) and the sleeves are at 25". So should I go 24" or go 25" like the jacket i own?
For the back on the jacket i get around 24.5". Would that be the same for the Wested? Thanks again.

Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
Back length is very personal, it also depends on your perception of the jacket and what reference you look at.
I personally, again err on the side of longer these days. You can live with a jacket that is too long, a jacket that is too short looks like a badly fitting toupee....
The Hero sits slightly longer than a regular cut Wested, IMO 24.5 on your height is probably correct. But have a chat with Rebecca and I suggest sending her a full length photo of yourself for them to see your build.

ok i will do that...Thanks KT!
Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
Went ahead and ordered the jacket just now. It is a shruken Lamb hero jacket.
Size: 44
Sleeve: 25.5
Back: 24.5
I emailed this to Wested, along with a photo, and they told me that those measurements look fine and shouldn't be an issue.
Well now the wait begins ha.
Thanks for your help KT.

I will when I get it, but I'm kinda confused how to post pictures haha. How do you post pics?
Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
Hi Team,
I am very infrequent on here and by no means a veteran like a lot of you, however I am a big fan. I currently own just one Wested Hero Jacket which I received in March of 2015.
Prior to buying a did a lot of research most notably on here and F&G. It's completely underrated the amount help that has been provided by posts, images, info and advice given by members on the posts. So as to say thank you and perhaps to help others in their journey of discovery as they purchase their jackets I thought I'd post just a few pics of my Wested Hero Authentic Lambskin. I subsequently bought a Hero Jacket for my dad as he loved it so much.
As a first jacket I had to get a Hero from Wested to try and be most "authentic".
My personal feelings on the jacket is that that even after the water treatment the sleeves are still a tad long for my frame. The jacket zipped up sits quite snug around me zipped up which is fine. The length of the jacket is fine when you zip it up however when it hangs open it could almost be up to an inch shorter however when you zipped. I might do another water treatment again to see lost more length. All in all I'm glad I went for it and I loved that I did initially!
Here is the jacket info as ordered:
Wested Raiders Hero Jacket
Skin: Authentic Lamb (Lightest weight bundle)
Chest: 38" (21" pit to pit)
Sleeve: 23.5" (Shrunk to a 22.5" after water treatment)
Back: 24.5" (Actually a 24" which is much better - could be shorte)
Straight out of the box...
After almost a year of wearing almost every 2nd day & water treatment:

I don't think the sleeve length is all that long especially that they're not all that wrinkled up yet. I think it looks good!

Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
Looks very good on you, LOVE my Wested Hero.
As far as another water treatment, try just doing the sleeves and push them your arms and let them dry. They'll get nice and wrinkly, they'll settle down, and they might be closer to what you envision the sleeve length should be, first knuckle of the thumb, doesn't look like you have far to go.
Or if you can get your hands on a mannequin put it on and do it that way.
Good luck.

Just started to upgrade/collect some gear and have not entirely been satisfied with the jackets I have (Lottery, Todd's, Wested Goat, Wested Lamb)... this Hero jacket looks to be THE one! I love the look and the drape.

Hi Frederick. I've been thinking of getting a Wested Hero myself, but ended up going round in circles worrying about and researching measurements. I just ended up second guessing myself. However, your measurements seem similar to mine and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind telling me how tall you are?
I'm 5'8", waist 30", chest 38" and somewhat confused as to what measurements to submit to Wested. Some say I should take an inch off the back length due to the deep collar of the Hero jacket, or submit pictures of myself with measuring tape against my arm and back, others that I should measure a jacket I already have as a guide, but any jackets I have are suit types and therefore the bottom hem just covers my backside. This makes them about 3-4" too long if I want the Hero jacket to end level with my trouser back-pockets...and on and on and on.
I know these questions have been asked many times before, but any advice would be much appreciated. If anybody else wants to chime in with learned advice on ordering Wested Raiders Hero jackets for short blokes, please feel free.

Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
No kidding. I can feel the difference in the armpits of the narrow sleeves compared to the loose, comfy fit of the standard Indy jacket I'm accustomed to. The Hero is comfortable, but will certainly take some getting used to.

Hi DangerFreak, apologies for the late reply.
I'm 5,6" half.
I actually had to send back my first jacket as I felt it was too short! My normal jacket length is 25" so I got a jacket (Wested removes two inches) that was 23". In proportion to my arms my torso might be slightly longer than some so it sat a tad short. My current jacket fits me right with back length of 24".
My recommendation is get your ideal back measurement and take off an inch (one and half at most). And for sleeves et your measurement from top of arm and take off the required half inch. You can always water shrink your jacket but you can't make it longer.

Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
Freddy, Wested may have installed adhesive tape in the cuffs, if so it is an easy fix to take up the sleeves by about a 1/2" or so. Of course, if it is glued, that is a different story, but you should be able to tell, pronto. If not, a leather alterations person can fix it up.

Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
I have a quick question regarding the shoulder seam, does it really sit the low on the arm (or off the shoulder), many of the pics of looked at are the same, my Wested hero does this and I was wondering if this is supposed to be. When I look at screen caps, the seam seems to sit higher up.
Your thoughts.

Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
I am on my 2nd Hero jacket. First on was pre-distressed cowhide and my latest one is in goat. My personal opinion is I just don't like the cut on these jackets. I know it is not a normal fitting jacket but I am large in the chest and have large upper arms. Also 6 feet 4 inches tall. The Wested seems too tight in the shoulders and upper arms. It is not the size I buy but the cut of the jacket. My BK and G&B fit fine though. The regular Wested Indy jackets fit fine as well.
Sort of jealous seeing pictures of you guys with nice fitting Hero jackets.
Still have my Hero in goat and have not decided if it will get donated to charity like the other one did.

Brexit has caused a discount at Wested. It's like it went from $340 to $304.

Got a new Hero Jacket this week. Looking forward to wearing it in.
Re: Wested's HERO jacket...
That looks great!
I thought I'd share these full gear pics I posted up in the Scrapbook, because I think it could help anybody curious about the Hero. You'll hear often people say the Hero doesn't 'fit like a regular jacket' and 'sits off the shoulders', but I know understanding exactly what that means can be a little weird. So I thought I'd show the following as an example:
You can see there just how low and far down my shoulders it sits (and just how little of the jacket actually comes to the front). I feel this is pretty spot on to Raiders, where there simply isn't a lot of leather actually on Indy's front, the jacket mostly sits to the side.
Again, you can see here just how low on the shoulders it sits.
Part of that comes from movement and how I wear it I think, but it goes to show it doesn't fit like a 'regular' jacket. If you'll excuse the incredible vanity of doing a comparison shot like this:
I think it really helps show why it sits the way it does, and how it's the same in the movie.
Unrelated to fit, I cannot recommend Shrunken Lamb enough as a hide. This is after two years of near constant wear, but no fake distressing (although the camera seems to have emphasised the distressed look/discolouration a little more than in real life, I think it helps show how great and worn this hide can look):
Apologies if this is stuff most people know or is considered obvious, but I thought it might help some people on the fence over whether to get the Hero or a more regular fit.
