Email received today:
This is very important for the Fans.. Please post!
Last Spring I made the decision to make the Kangaroo Jacket again after a ten year hold on this Leather… At that time I was going to make them off shore to keep the cost down But later changed my Mind and had my business Partner Roz Schott make them here in the USA ! The Bad news is in the USA we are Inion and with that said the cost is double but the quality is the same! Yesterday Packer Leather of Australia gave me an increase of $ 2.00 USD per Sq. Feet for the Kangaroo Leather.. As of the First of Sept. 1st US Wings Inc. will no longer offer a 10 % discount to Indy COW! Please post! I would take advantage of the Free Shipping in the USA over $ 95.00 But again we will no longer offer a 10% Discount on this Leather…We will continue to make and offer this Jacket Made in the USA. Mark I had to increase the price of the Roo Jacket also in size 2 and 3 X by $ 75.00.
Bottom line if there is anyone thinking about owning an American Made Roo Jacket I would take advantage of this offer before the 1st of Sept.

Sarge

I have to ask this and am fully prepared to banned from the forum for doing so:
Do these come with an extra pocket on the front?

Today's email:
US Wings Now has a limited supply of A-2 Kangaroo from size Small to 3X in Reg. and I would take advantage of the Indy Gear 10% discount because the last day of Aug. the 10% discount will end! If they don’t have the extra case they can put the Roo Jackets on Lay away and still take advantage of the 10% but again the end of the month that is it. Sgt.

Okay...can't stand it...gotta post SOMETHING for the moment!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!

I have the AC cranked down to 69 in the house so I can wear this absolute
work of art!

It is nothing short of amazing! The color is perfect, the leather is just
as dense and tough as iron (feels like it might stop a bullet)...everything
about it screams Indy! The thickness on the leather is astounding-I can't
believe how strong it feels as compared to its thinness! It isn't what I'd call
"supple" right out of the box or anything at all...And I can tell
that it is going to relax and drape just beautifully!!!

Sarge..I know I've said this before, but...you never cease to amaze me with
what you turn out!

This one will NOT be leaving the stable-except on my back!

HIGHEST Regards!!

Well, yeah, sort of.

Better. (I can see the pictures.)

Worse. (I can see the pictures of a jacket I'm trying to talk myself out of.)

What size are you wearing?

Does the Legends still come with those super sharp/pointy buckles?

:-({|=

From one guy with, as my wife says, "too many brown leather jackets," to another...this one (while not LOOKING all that different), is just different enough that...I'm not going to try to talk you out of one!

I'm wearing a medium...and I wear a 40R suit, OTR, and sometimes a 40, sometimes a 42, sport coat.

This roo hide is really wild stuff, man...never quite seen or felt anything like it. It comes out of the box really...almost like horsehide...stiff...but almost instantly starts softening in your hand. You can probably already tell the difference in the jacket from the shot I took last week (no hat, sunshine, jeans) to the ones I shot yesterday (hat, khakis, whip).

One (and only one) issue...yes, mine did come with the pointy slide buckles...but, I've already gotten some rectangular loops that I'm replacing them with...pretty easy workaround on that one. :whip:

Don't know if that hurts or helps, but...yeah, man...she's a keeper!

Regards!

Funny you mention how quickly the jacket is breaking in.

I did think the picture with you in jeans it looked a bit stiff. The others do look like it's breaking it in already.

I figured you got a medium since the bison Legend you had was a medium. I went with a large in the bison so I'd probably do the same IF I go with one of these roo.

Good call...as that 42R Expo you got was always a little large on me, but fit you perfectly...I figure a Large in this would fit you just about dead-on!

You won't regret it... :-$

Indydawg, those pictures are excellent!!!

I've had mine for a few days now and have been itching to post about it. It arrived the day before we started moving into a new house, so our lives have been disrupted a might this week to say the least!

I'll put some pictures up soon. For now I can certainly second Indydawgs comments on the leather; it's some wild stuff! In terms of weight it really does feel similar to lamb, but it is stiff right out of the box and feels absolutely bullet proof! The color reminds me of some of the whiskey colored bullwhips I've seen on the site. Beautiful color!

Gotta go, more to follow!

Latest blog on these 'roo jackets.

I'm still tickled to death with mine, though with heat index predicted of 110 this weekend, it won't be seeing much wear until later this summer or early fall. ;)

I'm very tempted…. I generally fit a 42 - I'm slim and 6ft 2 - could I get away with a large? I don't want a blowsy fit.

I think large would definitely be the route to go, as these are made with the Legend pattern which is a slimmer fit.
You and I are the same size and height, and mine looks and feels like it was tailor made for me.

I'm not sure how many of you knew about this, but Sarge asked me to share this:

Here is some very important news for COW.. The State of California will be putting into law.. No Kangaroo products will be sold in CA..I.E. Shipped to CA. also… I don’t know if you remember this but this is an old law that is coming back on the books!! If I were COW I would pass the word.. Not much anyone can do about it But we will not be able to send Roo Jackets to CA either when the law goes on the books.
Sarge

Whatever you make of it, there it is.

California did that once before, as I recall, and whip makers in the area played hob trying to get hide for product. :?

Never did understand their reasoning on this, as it's not like 'roo's are not in the least an endangered species. There are so many, they're expressly used to make soccer balls and shoes world wide.......that is, unless the California legislature is worried about importing Australian hides and possibly endangering the 'roo herds in California too. :-k ;)

Interesting read...and even more interesting implications for the whip side of our hobby...and for those seeking a Roo Indy. As soon as the temps dip below 1,000 degrees here in Ga, I'm getting some shots to update the gallery here...this jacket has aged and relaxed like you wouldn't believe.

For the price they are charging for the roo, you'll need to sell all three Westeds and a kidney or two!

They are beautiful, but that sticker shock. :Dietrich:

That's true, the price is somewhat restrictive. I've got a Fall/Spring Wested, one for Winter, and a spare. Suppose I could replace one or two with the 'roo.

This is truly an addiction....

Well, all I can say is a LOT of my stuff has been retired since I received mine.

It just clicks all the boxes, and in rain/snow/sleet and hail, it's absolutely water proof, or at least has been in my experience so far.

Just a weird hide. That's all I can say about it.

I handed it to Tennessee Smith when he was down a couple weeks ago, and he couldn't believe how light it was either.

Super light.....lighter than any lambskin I've owned, doesn't seem to want to weather at all, and I wore it all last winter. Completely water resistant.

I've been in driving rainstorms and snow, walked inside, taken a paper towel and just squeegeed off all the water in one swipe. No soak through, nothing. Completely dry jacket!

Kangaroo has the highest tensile strength of any leather available, and yet is the lightest in weight.

That's very impressive. Sounds like the perfect fall-winter jacket for the mid-east. I've always been hesitant to wear my leather jackets in the rain, though after joining this board and reading the vast amounts of information available on leather wear, distressing, and upkeep, it doesn't sound like it's that much of a no-no. Still, the 'roo leather sounds like it's the best bet for the rainy-jacket months (which is nearly all of them). Thanks M!
