Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
Hello Gents,
So one part of my outfit has never been accurate, the shirt. All this time I've been wearing an LL Bean safari shirt, which now (since being married) is too snug ... So I decided it was time to finally invest in a new shirt. I looked through the threads a LOT and really wanted a Todd's, but alas, they are sold out. So then with research, it seemed the Adventure built was great, but a little too pricey for me right now; that the WPG was the best bang for the buck, and WESTED was also a good option because of the lighter material and slightly lighter, Raiders esque color.
So? I decided on the WPG to start. I typically wear a medium, as small is too tight in the neck, often a little short in the sleeves and the waist is hit or miss. It arrived last week. I was impressed with the look. I wasn't super impressed with the FEEL of the fabric. VERY heavy (comparable to my LL Bean but even thicker). It also was EXTREMELY long. Im talking a good 3 inches longer than any of my other well fitting shirts. It looks terrible untucked. Also, the waist is HUGE. So yesterday I dropped it off at the Tailor to shorten and take the sides in. I am exited for the results.
Next, in my daily scouring of eBay, a hardly worn Wested Medium shirt popped up! So I snatched. Not at an icredible price, but about $20 or so cheaper than direct from Wested. I was very excited for this. It arrived yesterday. First impression, I really love the color and the fabric. Very soft, and comfortable to wear. I also really like the more "dress shirt" thin material. It breathes better and I feel like I can move easier in it... On to fit. Great sleeve length again, and perfect collar, also perfect length.... but, again, HUGE baggy waist! Argh. Is that just how these shirts are supposed to fit?? It sure doesnt look like that from the movies or from other members posts. Again I am swimming in the thing. Anyway, my tailor only charges $10 to take the sides in, so when I pick up my WPG I will drop off my Wested.
I am a pretty slim, moderately built guy, and usually wear a medium in a slim to athletic fit. So I suppose these are more of a "classic" fit which has always been baggy on me. Just wanted to see if I blew it on both and should have bought Smalls, or if this is just what everyone has faced.
Only managed to take one shot in gear of the WPG before rushing to the tailor. It doesn't really show because I had the back tucked behind to give the illusion of a better fit. I had to take it in some 4 inches! At least shortening and taking in the sides was only $20, not bad.
Anyway please chime in!

Oh, also as you can see, the shoulder seem is very low. However, if it were any higher the sleeves would be too short! I guess that's normal for Indy shirts?

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
My experience is limited to Todd's, WPG's, and Azuma's shirts.
Of the three, the WPG is my favorite. Yes, the cloth is a little thicker most of us prefer, but a few washer/dryer cycles breaks it in nicely. The stone color, which has remained consistent through multiple runs over the years, is spot-on for a Raiders shirt IMO. The epaulettes are well proportioned, and there are no Elvis collars. Lastly, WPG has solved the oversized fit problem by following "classic" department store sizing.
I typically wear an off-the-rack size Large, and the WPG fits me accordingly. For costuming I wear a medium, which appears more fitted as seen on screen.

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
Yeah, it is a well-known fact that Wested shirts fit like a tent. The best fit ever, hands-down, is the original Noel Howard / M.B.A. Indy shirts. Absolute perfection.
Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
As for me, I have the Todd's and the WPG. The WPG is my favorite...

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
My Wested shirt in 2xl just fits. I buy 2xl to fit me in length for the body and sleeves as I usually wear a 36-37 sleeve. Most 2xl are a loose fit but the Wested is sort of snug in the upper body.
The WPG shirt fits and is loose. Wrinkles are an issue as I don't like to iron my clothes.
My favorite Indy style shirts are the Cabelas Safari series shirts.

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
I wouldn't worry about wrinkles..Indy shirts are suppose to be wrinkled.. Well, if your going for an SA look anyways..
The WPG shirt looks ok. I like the color. Reminds me of Last crusade.

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
Haha, actually those are my Red Wing iron rangers. They are my daily, trusty pair. I have a very nice/almost identical pair to Aldens from Aldo for my indy gear. Really, super close. I can post in another pic once I get my tailored shirt back.Cajunkraut wrote:Tell us about the Aldens in the back!
Check out the pic of the WESTED. Also a "tent" like.
But the WPG sure looks great under the jacket for the LC look! Granted, with a Todd's raiders jacket. Still waiting for that Wested LC hero to come out.

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
I'm a WPG guy, I've toted them here on COW quite a bit, but like any company that outsources their material there are going to be deviations in color and material thickness. I LOVE MY WPG that I wear by so often but its getting old and torn, my replacement WPG I ordered early last year is not on par with what I received used from a fellow COW member (the one I wear all the time). The color is to dark and buttons are not correct, I'm currently trying to bleach the new shirt and get it to the right color and then I'll have my taylor take my buttons off the old shirt and put them on to the new shirt. Don't get me wrong about WPG, but they are like any other manufacturer for these Indy shirts, production runs vary. I still think that WPG is the way to go for the money but it is to your taste and ultimately you have to be happy, MHO. Good luck.
Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
Your shirt looks better in person! I've almost every shirt except for a WPG (Wested, Magnoli, Adventurebilt, Todd's, all three Azumas, Noel Howard, MBA). I only have the Azumas and NH, MBA still. I think the Wested I had was a small, and I still found it was a touch too big. Yours looked significantly better and more accurate than mine. Also felt like the Magnoli and Adventurebilt mediums were a little big. Azumas is the best for a slim build, followed by the Noel's. But Todd's is pretty solid (I may have listed the shirts in the order of my preference). They might be back in stock?
By the way, the LL Bean Safari shirt is a great shirt, with a great fit.
We should get together some time, with Daren, and pull out ALL of gear

Ha hey Baldwin. For everyone else, we just happened to meet last night at a pub because I was wearing my Wested shirt and he spotted it. Small world!
I'll have to post pics later, but the wested and WPG have both been tailored now and look MUCH better. So what Baldwin saw was the tailored Wested .

Oh that explains it. Your tailor did a great job!

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
What color of khaki is the WPG? Is it stone or greenish?
Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
Mine is definitely more of a stone than greenish.

I'd say, 'stone and then (tell them to) leave it alone.' I bought one several years ago and it was most nearly beaucoup....or is that the name of the Count from SW....?micsteam wrote:I'm a WPG guy, I've toted them here on COW quite a bit, but like any company that outsources their material there are going to be deviations in color and material thickness. I wouldn't call it green. Its a darker color than the wested but more stone.Texan Scott wrote:What color of khaki is the WPG? Is it stone or greenish?

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
Thanks. An Indy shirt should be more 'sport' or athletic cut, but that is what I see in film. Its difficult to fit everyone from one generalized pattern. If I receive one and its too blousy, then time to drop a size. Internet ordering is not always so easy.

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
Well here's the deal I found with WPG. On the small, I took measurements and was worried about shoulder and sleeve measurements. I think the small though would have had a much better waist. Unfortunately the medium was a tent in the waist. I also can't even roll the sleeves up because the sleeves are so tight. (Maybe my guns are too big ) But in any case, I dont love it. Its a good looking LC shirt to appear under a jacket, and also looks nice with the sleeves down. But, for comfort, I always reach for my wested. If I were to buy another, I'm pretty sure I'd try a small wested, instead of tailoring a medium.Texan Scott wrote:Thanks. I would also love to try other options, like the AB or the Azuma's, but I wanted to start with the two economical options first.

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
Seems like Tundy had a good thread around here on the WPG shirt. That series of production was the best in their camp to date, I thought. Seems like it was from around 2010 or so, stone color and the fit was tailored. If you can get one from that series, I'd recommend it.
It is 2010, ,here is the thread. Fortunately, there are some pics remaining:

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
Just won a WPG Indy shirt off Ebay for $25 shipped.
It just arrived in the mail today. Initial thoughts are it's wide in the body, not as long in the length as the readings here seem to have pointed out. Color is ok, I have not held it next to my Todd's or other close enough shirts.
I have no idea when the shirt was originally made or produced.
Probably keep it for a while.
It's in the washing machine right now trying to get the previously owner smell out of it.

Ok, out of the washing machine. Label came off before it ever hit the dryer.
Strangely made shirt. Short in length, strange based on other opinions of this shirt.
The back has a 'pinch'. Not sure why.
The sides of the shirt are really blousy.
Maybe I will sell it.

...what about a car-hart shirt?
*This is a joke. For the next few seconds, this member will conduct a test of the ClubObi Jokester System. This is only a joke.

Ha ha..that is funny. I actually don't own any Carhart gear, but I know it's good stuff.
My favorite Indy shirt right now is not SA & I picked it up on sale at Eddie Bauer. The fit is great.
I also recently had LC screen accurate buttons put on a Todd's shirt & I think it looks ok.
Maybe pics at some point.

...at least you could keep your label?
Well, I presum-a, Mont-Azuma's run of shirts might be the answer!
Just give 'em a tweet?

Re: Wested and WPG Shirts Fit
Nope, the label is worthless too-it's faded out all the text...nothing there but an old withered unreadable label.
What is this Azuma? I have heard this name before, seen a few shirts on here, but I thought they were no longer available.
Contact how? Any idea on price?

Oh lord...I was looking at that and reading along and just got confused as can be on the sizing.
The main thing that makes this hobby the least enjoyable is sizing, purchasing and ordering without the ability to try on.

WPG offers a Long version of their sizes (ie. Large or Large-L) which might be why yours doesn't seem long, just a guess.car96 wrote:Just won a WPG Indy shirt off Ebay for $25 shipped.

I'm also a WPG fan and bought mine about the same time as Tundy. I've always felt the stone color to be similar to that of WET drywall mud. I have many drywall friends and see it all the time. I like the color.

Funny enough, mine is definitely long, and I didn't order it that way. Then again, my Magnoli is to short imo. Gotta order another Magnoli and ask for 2" more in length.
