My new Streets of Cairo hat

Post by Holt »

So, I'm doing a new raiders gear project and I really want the SoC Indy look going for this one..

Here is my new Beaver hat. It's been reblocked with my block and then bashed into the SoC look.

Features of the Soc is the bulge, the ribbon hump, the back bump, reverse taper, turn and distressed of course!!

Would love to hear what you guys think of it :TOH:

I'm no hat wearer allthough I would not have any trouble wearing this hat in public. Looks awesome with a pair of sunglasses Black raiders T-shirt and jeans.

Thanks! :TOH:

Holty, bolty! You've done it....anyone who can get beaver felt to look like that has done something....not sure what, but they've done something. Seriously, very good likeness of the SoC, and you know the drill just box it up and send it out here, pronto if not sooner! ;) Summers seem to bring out the SoC in people, I've noticed. =P~

Awesome hat Holt! I remember seeing your other distressed SA Indy hats and they all look absolutely amazing. I have always been a fan of your SOC Indy hats since I saw the one you did a couple years back :TOH: Could we have a picture of the back of the hat perhaps?

I believe it was originally supposed to be 'In the Garden of Eden'

http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1388" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"This was written by Doug Ingle, Iron Butterfly's vocalist and keyboard player. His father was a church organist.
The title was supposed to be "In The Garden Of Eden." Someone had written "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," possibly while drunk, on a demo copy. A record company executive saw it and decided to use it as the title, since it sounded mystical and Eastern spirituality was big at the time, with The Beatles going to India and The Rolling Stones experimenting with Indian instruments."

But back on topic, nice hat. :TOH:

Thanks gents! Very much appreciated!

It sat on the block soaking wet for about 8 hours until damp-dry... pulled it off and went to work on it. Then it's left for airdrying so that the bash really sets in.. I'm actually wearing it as I type.. :D

Back of the hat coming up!

Took a few outside pictures of the hat to show it's original color. WHat you see is what I see.

I feel the SoC hat has such magic. I love all the quirky weird features of the hat..

I even love the sligthly shorter front brim on the on left side due to the turn. Some hate it, me love it! It's Raiders! :)

Looks great. I have a slightly round oval head so I put some well placed pieces of felt to enhance the turn. Still does not look as good on me as yours does but it's what it is. At the end of the day it's still a well made hat.

There is still one little detail missing..

I decided not to do it in the first place due to it's beaver nature..

but I am making it now and that is the canal next to the pinch..

we will see how it turnes out..If bad I might reblock the entire hat..

ah... #-o . me in a nutshell

Ray, you might want to start a separate post in the distressing section so this doesn't get lost in the middle of a gear thread.
