my new Wested TOD

Post by Indiana89 »

Hi everyone, today I received my first WestEd, a temple of doom in autentich lambskin. I did not expect the thickness and weight of this leather, lambskin jackets than I have are more thin and light.

Nice jacket - congratulations.

I bought an almost never worn older Wested lambskin jacket awhile back on EBay from someone in the UK. It is pretty substantial compared to the couple in lambskin I bought new from Wested over the last couple of years.

Update: I put the jacket in cold water and I made it to dry naturally, now the color is better, is less polished. I noticed, however, that the jacket is now more rigid than before, is this normal? I can put some product to return it softer or using it will return to normal?

When you cold water treat the jacket the elather bloats and gives a more rigid feel. You must wear it to break it in again. You can aso treat it with pecards but the ridig feel will never go completly away.

This is good so don't worry!

OK perfect. Another thing, looking at the first picture I posted, do you think the skin of my jacket is lambskin? Because it seems really too thick and strong.

I tried to pass sandpaper in a point to see distressing effect, here is a picture

I thought that with the authentic lambskin came out a gray, instead came out brown

Should cold water treat my new Wested Lamb to get the shine off? I don't want to ruin the jacket.

I don't really want the rigid feeling though. I guess I can just wear it everyday and it'll eventually get that distressed look...after maybe 15 years lol

I had a similar issue with my old cowhide US Wings, which was rigid after being getting soaked. Upon the advice of another member, I dried it off a bit (not all the way through), put it inside a pillowcase, and stuck it in the tumble dryer on no heat. It came out much less rigid, and after some pecards, it was back to being older soft self.

There's no better way to break it in than wearing it. The shine and rigidness will disappear and it will conform to your body much better than any artificial distressing you may do. The worse thing you could do to the jacket is getting artificial break lines and folds in a manner not consistent with how a normal person would wear it. But if you're still going to distress it yourself, I've heard good things about the tumble no-heat method mentioned by Photoss.

Good luck!

giantthugee86 my jacket after using it a while back is already soft, but I have only dipped in cold water for half an hour, and then dry naturally outdoors.
Anyway, what do you think of the fit? a little short? I ordered the back 24.5 inch, 24.5 inch sleeves, my height is 5' 8.5''

No the length is perfect for your height. My jacket is 24 inches back length and looks about the same. I'm 5 foot 7. Yours looks like an even better fit than mine.

Can you post closer up pics of the jacket?

TOD model is very nice, I like the large yoke and the small pockets , but, is a bit awkward to thread the hands!

How does your jacket feel now? less rigid? Did you put pecards on it? I heard you're not supposed to put pecards on lamb.

I am getting the itch for another jacket. I may have to pull the trigger on a TOD jacket in a thin distressed cow hide. Now I have to convince my wife

Forget about peoples opinions cuz they are only that, opinions! In the end, YOU own the jacket and YOU are the wearer.

From a screen accurate point of view, I'd just say you're jeans are on the low-rise side, and the jacket looks just right if you wore Indy trousers where he did. From a casual point of view, if I saw you I'd say, what a cool jacket. Perfect fit.

Looks like a fine length...Its not supposed to be a long jacket. Maybe if it was an LC jacket it would be slightly too short.

You're not very tall and the back is 24.5? That's longer than Harrison Ford's jacket and he's six ft one. I'm six ft two and my jacket is 25 inches long. It's fine.

I'm just starting to do my research on jackets and i'm loving the way the ToD jacket looks. Is this the authentic brown lambskin or the dark brown?

Hi, is authentic lambskin, the color and the quality are amazing. Unfortunately, I would be more comfortable if it was 1 inch longer, in fact I'm thinking of selling it and buying it again longer. It is a shame because the quality of this is incredible, especially the color is perfect.

Well, I still don't know. The difference between sleeve length and back length looks about identical to yours, if that's what you're after. Take a look at these pics:
http://movie-screencaps.com/indiana-jon ... m-1984/17/

If you want to try a longer length, and can afford it, I'd recommend keeping the current jacket until you get the longer one and compare them. Too often people sell off a jacket only to find they miss it and it really was better than the next one they got.

I'd say 2-3 inches below the belt is perfect for this type of jacket, wherever that falls?

When I have given a jacket the water treatment in the past, I would zip it and close the hand warmers, usually with masking tape, something not too sticky that could remove the finish when you peel it off, and wet the leather in the shower, then wear it around until dry. This gives it the natural folds and character that you are after, especially in the sleeves. No point in getting the lining wet if you don't have to..?

I've seen some sharp ToD's lately. ;)

hi guys, is just my impression or the jacket is really more longer than before?
I tried to stretch the skin of the back panel, the Lambskin is very elastic skin.
