So I haven't really posted any pics of my Penman in a while and have meant to, I just don't have anyone to really take pics of me tho (and I'm not to big on the whole selfie thing)... but I did take one for my profile and got a nice shot of my youngest son wearing it (and Indiana Kale is NOT looking for fortune and glory):

Looks good and the kid has the look down. Don't mess with him.
Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues.
Thanks! And yeah, both my boys wear my hats well.
Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues.
Received my ABL from John yesterday, but won't be able to post pictures because we are in the middle of moving. Have to wait for our stuff to get here.
The hat is great John! Also, I love everything about the rest of the package. The box looks amazing, the brush is nice, and the AB lapel pin looks very cool. If anyone wanted the, IMO, the most accurate Raiders fedora... Well the search is over!

Great hat APL. Which Penman did you get? Pinch looks like LC or maybe Crystal Skull?APL wrote:So I haven't really posted any pics of my Penman in a while and have meant to, I just don't have anyone to really take pics of me tho (and I'm not to big on the whole selfie thing)... but I did take one for my profile and got a nice shot of my youngest son wearing it (and Indiana Kale is NOT looking for fortune and glory):

First guess got it, this is the LC. I have an order in for the ABL and am looking forward to another Penman masterpiece.

Get this on a very low price of $2:25 and read a interview I did for the book.

Here's a sneak peak at my new premiere line of hats. Made of portuguese beaver felt that is special made for Marc Kitter.

I love Winchester felt, but in my opinion the Portuguese beaver felt is absolutely the best there is. GREAT material!

Well I just got the call from John that my ABL will be on it's way Monday!! Sorry John that I had to jump off the phone so quick, my job keeps me stuck in meetings nearly half the day and I'm sitting in one now (sshhhhh). But have no fear, my Penman LC and the forthcoming ABL will be seeing plenty of adventure this summer.
Thanks again, and I'll surely be posting more pics soon!

is there a significant difference compared to beaver felt heatwise ? (i mean is it so lighter as to be more comfortable in warm weather ? )
Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues.
Maybe it's just me, but the crown looks rather tapered for a Raiders hat.

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues.
I wore my ABL in Tucson Arizona couple weeks ago, 85-90deg. weather, sweated some, but over all I was comfortable.
Suspect when the humid weather starts in Cow Hampshire........ yup, I'll still be wearing it.

I thought the same thing. Thought it looked "off". Perhaps it is all in the lighting.moses wrote:Maybe it's just me, but the crown looks rather tapered for a Raiders hat.

This is the prototype not the final that I settled with and the camera angle of this photo is throwing things off a bit.
4 different Adventurebilt Legacy Raiders hats. No tapper there.

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues.
Here's a recent pic of my ABL, I've had it now since November 13th. I've worn it exclusively to help break it in and to get the lived in look. As I stated, I had no problems wearing it in 85-90deg. heat, with up coming NH humid weather, well we'll just have to see.
I am enjoying it very much. Thank you John for starting the Legacy line, can't wait to see what's next.

And here's one taken with a junky camera, in Tucson Arizona.

Croft, I love these two shots. Showing the same hat on the same person and looking very different. Dead on the hat looks very straight sided. Shot from bellow, it looks tapered and very odd.

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues.
Not to worry Mr. Oak, as I said the lower shot was taken like a selfie, and with a terrible excuse of a camera.
Only wished the misses was with me on this trip as we'd had some opportunity's for some great gear shots.
But thanks, I do have one question which I'll PM you about.

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues.
I'm very glad you posted those two shots . It clearly shows that angles make a difference when getting a photo of a hat on a persons head. It clearly shows that a selfie or a bad angle can make a straight sided hat look tappered.
Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues.
Absolutely... angle of the shot really makes shapes change, especially with the "selfie" approach where the focal point is so close to the lens. Everything beyond the closest focal point is angled back from the perspective of the lens and that is so much more apparent when it's that close. To get a closer representation of reality, you really need to have the camera at least 10 ft from the subject of the image... more distance is always better, and the further back you get, the "flatter" the image appears.BendingOak wrote:I'm very glad you posted those two shots . We also have a tendency to have the lens lower, looking up, when taking "selfies", which again skews the focal point and perspective.
That first pic is absolutely awesome, btw.

I've had my Penman Raiders for 6 months now and it just keeps looking better and better...especially when my daughter steals it off my head and wants to wear it!
