Todds boots, are they ok?

Post by baddates1 »

Hey all! I have a question about the Todd's Boots. I noticed that Todd's happen to have size 12 boots still in stock(in reality, they are size 11 1/2). I am wondering, for those who bought some of the last pairs available, how do they feel? Are the heels alright? I have heard people having to have new heels replace the old ones on their boots, due to discomfort, for example; something that felt like a nail poking at the inside of the heel. I am wondering about how the last batch of boots are. How many of you have had to replace the heels of the boots? And a few more questions, are they as comfortable as a lot of people say? How often can I wear them daily? And how well do they feel when you walk in them?

I know I have asked some of these questions before, but I need to know more opinions on these boots, so I can decide if I want them or not. Thanks all!

Search is your friend.

Especially in the page 4-5 there's plenty of descriptions and reviews. Half size large, snapped hooks, and supposedly soft heels, etc.

The reviews are a mixed batch.

I love them though they came up a snug fit on me so if a little unsure, try a half size bigger.

They take a while to break in and the soles are pretty solid so they're like wearing Dutch wooden clogs initially. They are well made, made to last and well worth the money. Request extra laces.. I snapped mine.

I happened to be watching a review of these boots on youtube, and the person liked them except for the orthopedic steel shank. They said it can get a little uncomfortable, and that it was like walking on a piece of metal. Who here has experienced this? And there is another review where a guy bought Indy 405's from Alden, and they mentioned the Aldens had a steel shank running up to the edge of the sole, for extra support, like the Todds. I am guessing the aldens have the same problem every now and then with the Steel shank, like the todds?

The shank, whether steel, plastic, fiberglass or whatever, is a bridge of material that runs from the heel to just before the ball of the foot. It's narrow, and isn't anywhere near the edge of the sole. It's not something specific to orthopedic shoes. Some kind of shank is present in many shoes, and most boots. I don't know if the old run of boots even had a shank, but if so, it wasn't steel. I could bend them in the middle with my hands. They provided me no real support.

The Todd's boots are great, and any discomfort would likely be from the shape of the sole (including the shank) more than what the sole or the shank is made of, I'd think.

As has been said, brittle hooks and weak laces are common, and the heels are soft and don't wear well, and mark floors easily. That said, great basic construction, though. The staple in the heel is from older batches. The last batch is an altogether different properly made boot with a Goodyear style welt, and is resolable.

IMO there's no better repro for the money. I have a pair, as well as several pairs of Aldens, and, although they don't feel exactly the same, they're very sturdy boots. There's a slightly higher arch in the Todd's which I didn't expect, but suited me well, as I use Super feet 3/4 inserts in my Aldens, and I don't need the insert with the Todd's.

If Todd has a pair left that fits you, and you aren't saving for Aldens, buy the Todd's before they're gone. Just be prepared for a broken hook, maybe. After a couple years, mine are all intact, though.

JMO YMMV ETC ETC LOL!

Does anyone know the company that made them for Todd's Costumes? Todd's is out of stock, and the size 12 is too big for me.

In order to get that company to make you some, you'd probably have to buy a batch of 500 or something like that.

That's the reason Todd's out of the boot game, he has to keep buying big runs of the things to try and sell them to a small niche market.

The factories that make these won't just push out one pair for a single individual.

That's why Magnoli's cost what they do. His are boots are made individually per order.

On the site above the sizes chart(or below, either way, it is next to it), it says that they wont restock until 2014, basically this year. Is this true? Or is this before Todd said they where not selling the boots anymore?

I think the website information is out of date.

This was the last word from Todd on the issue of boots, posted January 2014.

Actually, I found more Indy boots upstairs... size 12, 12.5. The situation still remains, though, that I probably won't be able to reorder them. We'll see.

If you want more exact information, you'll have to contact him directly, though I'm sure if he were going to be offering the boots again he would announce that loud and proud here.

I love my Todd's boots, although since I purchased some 404s I don't wear them as often as I used to. I still have all the hooks but the original laces frayed almost immediately. I just replaced the heels (after 2 yrs) due to excessive wear on them. I always thought the heels were too soft but my cobbler said they were actually too hard which made them brittle- he charged $30 to replace them with a new set of Goodyears. Other than the heels he was very impressed with the quality of the Todd's- as am I.
