My only concern with goat is that it can look rather plasticy. That first pic looked good - i assume that is the shrunk lamb, which I believe is verg tanned?

Soft goat shortly after I received it.....
Here's one from a few months later, showing some of the grain. You can see here that it is already beginning to show some wear around the edges and seams....
Great leather. Not plastic-y.

Arm creases for the win on that soft goat!
Re: Definitive Raiders jacket photos....
Few images here show the sleeves like straight tubes, like "the idol chamber entrance" picture where Indy fills the bag.In that case one to get would be custom made Wested, size smaller Wested with longer sleeves or Todd jacket regular fit or size smaller, either it fits to your built, lucky s.o.b who gets it right the first time.Standards look wide on the sleeve department.

After looking at the pics in this thread, I'm feeling a lot more love for my Wested in Authentic Brown Lamb. I also want to watch Raiders again!

How do you suppose those vertical lines happened above the pocket?

Because of the "fabric tape" glued on the back of the leather front panel, covering (and reinforcing) the area where the pocket flap is attached/sewed.Texan Scott wrote:

This "fabric tape" (very light fabric like "friseline") ussually is used to reinforce certain areas on thin and non-resistant leather skins, in order to avoid rips or stretches.

Interesting....so you would suspect that the leather must have been thin in order for this effect to happen, would you not....for the inside, very thin fabric to create wrinkles in the leather like this?
The inside was influencing the outside?

Due to the glue.Texan Scott wrote:Interesting....so you would suspect that the leather must have been thin in order for this effect to happen, would you not....for the inside, very thin fabric to create wrinkles in the leather like this?

Happened to us on a prototype jacket. Not on purpose.
I have to look for pictures...it will take some time..
Yes, I'm sure that leather was thin, at 0.6 - 0.8 mm range, my guess.
Cheers.-

Also think it's due to the jacket being wet down and dried during distressing.
Never found out what sort of tape and glue they used. These days it is probably iron on tape. Those days it might have been contact adhesive, ie good old fashioned Cow gum. (a petroleum based glue, contains no cows).

We use (the workshop I mean) contact adhesive.Kt Templar wrote:Also think it's due to the jacket being wet down and dried during distressing.

Comes as powder and must be mixed with water for use.

I like your comment regarding the finances -- man, can this become an expensive hobby!Gorak wrote:I would have loved to have these hi-res shots when making my choices especially when coming to skin type as Wested offers so many. I too would love to know if this helps any of the up and coming newbies in their financial destruction.
I love the shots in this thread too! Wow, I wish I could've had these twelve years ago!

One more spec to get right if one wants to have the perfectly SA jacket ...
What about an inner waist drawstring ( like good old M65 ) to mimic the puckering ?

Re: Definitive Raiders jacket photos....
If you want to recreate THAT particular jacket... There were at least a couple others worn on screen. I once had the beginnings of this effect on a Wested and imagine if it had gotten wet and dried it would have been almost as pronounced. Aside from the type of leather, these details were contingent on how the jacket was cut and where thinner/thicker and grainier/smoother parts of the hide ended up in the jacket construction. I think that level of detail would test any jacket maker's patience.ThatManFromRio wrote:One more spec to get right if one wants to have the perfectly SA jacket ...

I've said this before - I don't need a copy of what we see on screen. I want a jacket that has the same pattern but is better made and from a more durable material. I want improvements.
