Morgan Receipt from long ago...

Post by Gorak »

while going thru some old things, I found my receipt for my David Morgan that I saved up lots of money for.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h304/ ... irltk7.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Check out that price tag! And I recall them calling me once to ask some info but told me that Mr. Morgan himself was working on it diligently and check out the notation....Mr. Morgan finished earlier! SUWEET! I plan on one day mounting my whip in a shadow box with an Indy theme and this will go nicely with it! Just thought you guys would find it interesting! My wife just jokingly poked,"You still payed too much for a bunch of leather!" ](*,) ;)

That notation...very nice detail.
I also keep receipts and notes from different items I bought...I just can't throw that away!

Yeah, I still have my receipt from the DM 453 I bought in July 2001. The price was $510.00 + $6.00 shipping. Nowadays, you can't even get a 6-foot bullwhip for $516.00. How times have changed...

That's really cool to see.

I still have my original DM receipt as well - from early 1995 - 12' Indy whip for $440.

I should have bought 2 or 3 more! :rolling:

My first DM (12-footer) was $515.00 in 1997. If you tracked Morgan's bullwhip prices from Raiders to the present, you can see an exponential price increase, likely based on David's Indy movie pedigree more than cost of materials and labor. Today's DM prices put it in the luxury sports car category, and the speculative aftermarket value makes these whips questionable investments (particularly considering that Morgan no longer makes the product himself anymore). Food for thought. :[

Nice. :)

I keep receipts for certain meaningful purchases too. Lots of 'em end up being like yours - nostalgic reminders of what things used to cost.

Yeah, but what folks forget is back then that was a LOT of money to spend on an item.

Heck, we were humming and hawing at paying $150 for a Wested jacket and $200 for an HJ fedora at the time too! :-k

VERY TRUE! I was working at Petsmart at the time and used most of my tax return to but this. It was my crowning jewel as I originally never thought I would ever be able to afford one! :-s

Steve Delk and I used to laugh that we'd NEVER EVER own or wear something so extravagent as an HJ fedora here in the South, as when the Spring winds blew, we'd be scared to death our $200 hats would blow away! Heck, you can't even get an Akubra Fed for that price now, and most wear hats in the $400 to $600 range anymore and count them as a good deal!

Time does change perspective, doesn't it?

I remember, back in the day, I was unaware of Wested (because I hadn't yet discovered the Internet), and I not only paid $350 for my Disney/Cooper jacket, but I drove from Raleigh, NC to Orlando, FL *and* bought a One-Day Pass into Disney/MGM Studios Theme Park to do it!

Back then, I'd guess that was twice the price of a Wested. As it was, when I began researching my Wested purchase, the off-the-rack price for it was *still* $100 cheaper than the price tag on the Disney/Cooper (not even including the other expenses I mentioned)...

Yikes...

I spent my first two paychecks EVER to buy my Herbert Johnson Poet from Swales back in '99. With shipping fees, the total was nearly $300, which (at the time) I thought was an appalling sum of money considering the price of a Wested jacket. I was like: "The HAT costs MORE than the JACKET?! You've got to be kidding me!" Of course, I found the $220 price tag of the Alden 405s equally obscene, but it was a bargain compared to today's rate. :x
