Can be truth this whip??? The seller say:"They were all made by Morgan. One was a 12' also by Morgan Himself. Two have never been cracked! They were all made between '91' and '94'. I can't remember which year this was purchased, but I had an expert say he believes it is a '94' but could be a late '93'. This has been well treated and stored/ displayed for around 20 years. This is like finding the Cross of Coronado! It belongs in a Museum!"
Yeah I doubt I will get that but I thought I would just try. The buyer reserved to sell it to had financial problems and I thought I would just see what ebay would yield. I think any unused Morgan should clear $2,200-$2,500 for what it is and as rare as it is...but I dropped it for $3,000 on ebay just to see if it would...plus ebay fees reach $300 on something that high which is another reason for the insane price. I placed a obo price that is also high. If it doesn' t sell I have a guy I am going to check with before I post it here. I owe a guy the first chance. If he passes I will post here for way less then what I posted on ebay. I just thought it is worth the shot. If you could sell it on ebay for $3,000...wouldn't you?
I ask for any proof of this fact, if seller has some paper that the whip was produced by David Morgan himself, because I can buy a DM bullwhip for $955.
$3.000,00 is a loot of money for a whip.
Seller answer:
"I dont have any documentation. The original owner died earlier this year. I have tried to contact his widow to see if she has found the reciet. She has not yet. She had a close family friend buy this directly from Morgan for her husband as a wedding gift. Her family friend was a friend of David Morgan and flew out to get it from him in person. David even sent autograph with the whip. They were married in early '94'. I know this is made by David. I hope she can find the reciet...but it is 20 years old and I don't really want to push her to search hard for it. I sold the other one I had unused for $2,500 a month ago. This is a genuine David Morgan. It is hard to let this go, but I need the $$$ and it is time for some one else to enjoy it."
It is a lot. But you are buying somethin that is extremely rare. David retired 14+ years ago. Yes you can buy a David Morgan new for $1,000 but it is not made by David Morgan. As for the price being high...I have Joe St t ain building a 10' 24 pla oily t inbthe next few weeks and that is running me $1,200+. Sobabwell perserved MorganbWhip made byvMorgan...should go for more the double the price of a new. It doesn't depreciate...it appreciates, especially since it has never been cracked. As I stated earlier it is a little high but I thought I would just toss it on ebay and see.
I just wanna add to the conversation and say that i agree with blake. Thats what he needs to get for it on ebay. Any unused whip made by david calls for a high price! Thats amazing! That with the fact that ebay is going to take one large chunk and $3000 is sounding rather good...
Then dont buy it. It is what it is. I have owned 4 original Morgan's and A morgan not made by morgan. The new ones are the same formula. If you need proof I understand. I bought this from a serious collector who has passed away and I haven't had the heart to recall press the widow to find the original reciet. I know thus is real. I know it was bought of david in person and delivered with an autograph for a wedding gift in early '94'.
I just got message from the the widow and I have emailed Will at David Morgan to see if their records go back far enough. I may be able to have some proof of the authenticity of date of birth soon.
If it doesn't sell on Ebay, and if the COW member I will offer 1st chance to buy doesn't come to agreement on a price I will place her back up for sale on this site w/ and offer price.
I've got a '95 David Morgan-made 12' whip that I purchased myself straight from David Morgan, still have all the documentation, receipts, etc. - it's been through some moderate use, has been safely kept and well cared for, Pecarded and aged beautifully, and I paid $440.00 (full retail price at the time) for it in January of '95. The same length and style of whip made today (and not by David himself) would be $1,115.00.
If someone offered me $3,000.00 for it, there'd still be no way I'd let it go. If I'd been wiser back then, I'd have bought two.
Some years ago, there were two Morgans listed on ebay. One was 8ft 16 plt Classic bullwhip and the other one was 12ft 12 plt standard Indy. One of them reached over 3k USD and the other one 5k USD if I remember correctly. And they were used. So I don't think 3k USD for unused whip is too much
I agree...and not just because I am the seller of one...lol. He is retired...there can't be that many left that are unused. And seeing that even at $2-3,000 is only 2-3× what a new one costs...some one would buy a unused one and crack it just to know what it felt like...or to enjoy the process of experiencing the break down process. I almost decided to do it myself, just keep it and use it. If that were to happen...there is one less unused Morgan in the world. Say there was only one left like that and lets add 10 more years, another Indy movie, and a another generation generation of fans. True that some thing is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it...yet there are comic books and ball cards only a couple decades older that go for thousands of dollars as well...and they are made of paper....no artistic value (what I mean by that is that they are all reprints of original art)...and can't even be used othr then looked at or read.No playing with it. A whip like this will only appreciate....and all the "lowballers" who think "I can buy a new one for $1,000 I would barely pay more then that for an original Morgan!" ...well for one thing they will never ever...ever ever ever...ever own one and it is sad to me that any member of a site like this would put such a low value on an Original unused Morgan. I dress up for for Halloween and I can easily see wearing his gear on a regularly basis (even though I don't)...but I dare say the whip is what made Indiana Jones... Indiana Jones. I mean, he was modeled after Humphrey Bogart in Tokyo Joe...how many of you have ever watched that movie? For real...lmk if any of you have...I am curious...I may even start that thread. And I dare say if Humphrey Bogart used a whip we'd be Club Tokyo Joe instead. If Indiana Jones didn't have a whip it would be almost the same as any other movie of a guy on an adventure with a gun. The whip my opinion was Genius and really made this icon stand out.

"We have some imperfect history back say 10 years but we do not look up history for anyone but the original purchaser due to personal information / privacy / confidentiality concerns."
I emailed him back to see what all I have to have the widow get ready to contact him... Because I want to make this as easy as possible for her.once he emails me back I will email her and then we'll play the waiting game again.
