I didn't know if this was posted anywhere, but I couldn't find it. If you are looking for laces for your 405's and having trouble finding them locally give Alden a call at 1-800-273-7463. Ask for Jim Smith and he will fix you up. $4.00 per pair.
Would those be the "flat" ones that comes with the Alden 405 these days, or would it be the "autentic"
ones as shown in the motion picture from 1981, "Raiders of the Lost Ark"?
I have used round laces and flat ones on my mountain climbing boots. Let me tell you, the flat laces stay tied. The round laces do not grip as well. So I insist on flat laces. Besides that one screen grab in the truck, I think the rest use flat.
I'm sure if you do a search here, you'll find the posted photos that show Ford wearing white AND black socks during filming, as this is yet another one of those discussions that continue through the years...so either way you go you're right....or wrong. Regards. Michaelson
That's absolutely right Michaelson. My point was since it can go either round or flat, my flip of the coin went to flat. They just grip so much better.
Until I saw those screen grabs from LC, I didn't know the side of Ford's Aldens didn't touch over the tongue like they do in Raiders and TOD. BTW, I agree with the flat laces. I've used both and found not only to the flat ones stay tight, but they don't break as easily as the round ones.
I received, just this week, two pair of flat's from the AldenShop. For the interim (and the Japan trip - I am home now, btw), Mrs. Cab bought me some - actually relatively attractive - round laces at Wal-Mart. They stayed tight, tight, tight walking miles and miles over the last nine days. But I like the flat laces and will swap them out today.
