Jacket question
Hi guys can someone tell me if the original raiders jacket had a brass or silver zip up the front?
Re: Jacket question
silver
Re: Jacket question
Silver colour is correct but I remember reading that wardrobe department had painted over the nickel zip to make it look like brass but that this proved unsuccessful and flaked off after use of the zip. So the intended look may have been brass but it looked silver/nickel on screen.
Re: Jacket question
You read a lot of stuff. I read once the zip was aluminum.
Re: Jacket question
Interesting...I had always thought it nickel! Who knows? If it was aluminum, then not only is the zipper out of era, but so is the metal used, as I do not think anyone would have been thinking aluminum in the '30's ! It really didn't evolve until the '50's! I can still remember a daily 'kid's' show from a Denver television station called "Fred and Fey"...man and wife who had a live audience of children, daily at (I believe 4:00 p.m.) and 'Fred's skits about -- ''...Now, how do you pronounce: aluminum, etc." Had to have been late '50's to early '60's. Heck, I don't know, but this find of aluminum for the zipper in "Raiders' would surprise me. Then, again -- it all comes from 'Hollyweird,' so why not ! W>CM wrote:You read a lot of stuff. Re: Jacket question
Personally, I find the bright nickel zip we've ended up with doesn't seem to be quite what we see on screen and in photos. Though we know how that often works out!
The slightly yellowed and less shiny silver zip that Wested used on their cotton jackets and that Steele & Jones use on theirs has a more 80's period feel. But that is just me thinking out loud!

Re: Jacket question
I believe, according to my observations making jackets, that the "painted zipper" is not a very sustainable theory.
Because our zippers, depending on lighting, reflects silver or brass colors.
As KT said, our zipper is nickel YKK.
Regards.-

Re: Jacket question
The original zips were aluminum, painted brass color, according to Peter many years ago. That jacket was the rush order, and the zipper failed fairly quick in the first shots. They never used them again.
