Baron Hats

Post by Mississippi Jones »

Didn't realize that these guys made the fedora for ToD. I always thought it was Herbert Johnson. But they offer their version of the ToD hat on their website:

They didn't. Their advertising is borderline.

LOTS of discussions regarding these folks over the years.

They probably made the hat for a prototype for the tod hat, but never used in the filmings though only HJ fedoras.

I agree. Every hat in the first 3 movies was a Herbert Johnson, all the way until Kingdom of the crystal skull came out, that was when Adventurebilt came in the scene.

Correct but there was placement hats in the film as well. Stetson and DP. ;) just to be nit picky.

Just for fun, does anyone know the exact placement hats in TOD? We can assume the "fuel" hat was placement because it looks so small and out of place but wondering where there may be others.

I thought there was Stetson placement and later on DP bought usage of the name from them or other. Didn't know there was DP in there!

No biggie though if no one knows.

Not sure what was the placement hat for TOD but in CS when they grab Indy and Mac out of the trunk of the car. It's the one where they grab the hat and threw it on the ground. The one he picks up is the AB and of course every other hat in the movie.

If I am reading 'all of the previous' posts correctly, I think John is stating that the 'hat tossed out of the car,' is a Dorfman. If am wrong (John) correct me. Who knows...but, I do think it also funny and also pleased to know it was not one of Steve's as one would note in the scene, the hat crumples (BIG TIME) when it hits the ground, but upon retrieval, it is perfectly in good-to-perfect condition. I really had not thought of this as 'another hat,' until now, but it makes sense. An AB would not have 'crumpled like that,' unless really smashed upon, after the toss! W>

Wow what Dorfman was it? The beaver felt, normal fur felt, or the wool felt?

Wow, five years on and we're still learning new things about CS.

I'd not heard of a DP product placement hat. John, do tell, what's your source?

The beaver dorfman don't looks so good, it's looks cheap, and it's too expensive ($500) and doesn't look SA. Waste of money. Only Bendingoak and Fedora makes the best fedoras ;)

I have both an Adventurebilt & Penman as well as the collectors edition Dorfman & I think the CE Dorfman makes a good quality TOD or LC fedora. The felt is of a very good quality & comes from Fepsa iin Portugal. The quality is on par with both Penman & Adventurebilt.

But that's just my opinion...

Hi Bruce Wayne, i just want to ask, how does the Dorfman Beaver feels and how does the color react to any shade of light compared to the AB and Penman? Was it stiffer, or floppier, and is the felt rough and darker? Thanks :D

The felt is slightly stiffer & the color is actually spot on. As I understand it, both Panman & AB use a darker shade of brown so the the felt will fade into the proper colour of sable where as the CE DP is the correct colour to begin with.the felt is slightly thicker.

Thanx!!!

Apparently under Michaelson's Plymouth. :Plymouth:

Can you point me at posts or interviews where one of them say a DP was used in production?

It's Penman not Panman.

Jeff, I'm sorry but no I can't. That has been a long time ago but I assure you it is. Herd it from the man himself on top of it.
