It's true...great hats! Not surprising at all from your tastes and John's work, but come on -- she really does take the stage on this one! Well :-k , except for on thing -- the look on your face isn't so much about the hat, is it :TOH: ? W>

Daren, when I first saw this hat on John's Facebook page, I wasn't sure the colours looked good together.

Seeing you wearing it shows that you and John got it totally right - it looks great on you.

It is a spectacular hat and I'm sure you'll enjoy wearing it a lot!

Yeah right, Joe! Getting a new Penman hat is a wonderful thing!

I know I've already complimented Joe's new hat, but I'd somehow (even despite already seeing Daren's pictures on FB) neglected to throw out some very deserved compliments to both Daren AND Caber for their newest photos and acquisitions!

Caber, Daren (and John) :

Joeyeah_right wrote:Ah. I am finally a member of the "Penman Owners" club. The package was delivered today. I have been waiting for this moment for the past five months, and it was great to finally receive the box today!
Inside the cardboard box was the famous Penman Hat Box, and what a lovely box it is!

Image

I opened the hat box to find the most perfect hat inside. I slipped it carefully out of the box and looked at it for a minute before slipping it on my head, and as i suspected, it fit like a glove, a very comfortable glove!

Image

My only regret was that I'd have to go to bed at some point today and would have to remove the hat from my head :)

Thank you Mr Penman for the finest hat I have ever seen/touched/owned!

Regards
Joe
As much as i balk at spending so much money on a hat, i guess i'll bring myself to pull the trigger on a beaver penman someday. These lids are so fine it defies reason... congrats, Joe !

Yes, It's the beaver felt. My budget would only allow for one hand-crafted hat at the present time, so it had to be a beaver. If i had gone for the rabbit, then i know i would always regret not going for beaver.

Wow! John, just like the other guys, I can’t wait to find out what you’re cookin’ up! …I’ve just got one question:
Whatever it is, can I have one FIRST?!
:P

:Plymouth:

Canasta wrote:Mitch, Where did you get that super cool winter coat?
Hey, THANKS Chris! The coat is -I think- kind of a cute story:
At the start of last weekend, my wife said “You really need a good, NEW winter coat. Let’s stop by the mall and see if we can find one you like” …We’d planned on visiting a few different stores in the Mall for this purpose but the first one we visited was good ol’ SEARS and after looking over a few different racks of men’s winter coats & parkas, I saw this one and said to my wife “Well, I like the cut of it, it looks warm but feels light, it’s got epaulettes (so you know that’s a PLUS) and y’know what? I even like the color!” (I said that last part to her with a wink) ;)
So, I tried it on to see what we both thought of it (I was already sold) and my lovely bride said “I love it! You know what, though? It sort of reminds me the coat that Han Solo wore in The Empire Strikes Back, except that his was blue and yours is brown,” (I know, I know… I didn’t have the heart to TELL her – she’s already had to listen to the Brown/Grey Seaplane Hat speech) …she went on to say with a smirk “but then, I guess you probably already noticed that, huh?”
I pretended not to hear her as I stared in the mirror at myself in the coat and inattentively mumbled “hey, d’ya think I could pull of this look with a white scarf and big, white gloves?”
HarHarHar…

Oh, I should come clean, though:
That IS also the reason I'm wearing my Wyoming Scarf as an "outside the jacket" (ala HOTH) scarf... Doing my best to FUSE Indy AND Han, here ;)

jlhampton wrote:I'd love to see some other angles on this one, as well.
Hey jl! Here’s a few.

Image

I'll admit that I still need to work on putting a little more CURL in the brim to keep it on the road to that "LC" look... but I think it's off to a pretty nice start. :D

Cheers, guys!

Great story, Mitch.
Went to Sears today in hopes of finding one. I too need a good winter jacket.
I couldn't find one though, and can't find it on their website.

Do have a brand name you can divulge? Man, it looks super great on ya.

Thanks again guys… :) Glad you like it (I know I do)

Chris, the jacket label says that it’s part of the RETREAT Line of Men’s Clothing, but I just took the liberty of looking for it on the SEARS website (and Googling all kinds of combinations of “Sears/Retreat/Mens/Winter/Coat/Parka”) and I can’t find a picture or reference to it anywhere! I suppose you never know though… maybe it’ll pop up there sooner or later.

Anyway, all that’s Off Topic… Back to talkin’ about John’s Hats!

I’m looking to seeing some more (and NEW) shots of Penman’s stuff!

Thanks nick. That was destressed a lot so you will need to break it in a little. Western felt is thicker and there is a lot more stiffener in them. Don't be afraid to handle it. I got a lot more photos after I started the hat and I don't think it was brown. Did you know that and just wanted it brown? I think the SA color is either whiskey or even as light as brown.

I wasn't thinking about the dusty look part of the hat but breaking it in so it isn't so stiff. That it buckles near the top like the movie. I'm glad you think I nailed it. I wanted to bear the snot out of it to make it looked lived in and rugged like the movie.
