Ahhh...
:)

The wonderful feeling of the promise of future satisfaction that comes with placing an order with John Penman for one of his amazing Indy Hats!
\:D/

John is, of course, talented in producing a whole variety catalog of amazing lids (and in a veritable "Hat Rainbow" of colors)... but with such an amazing talent for (and knowledge of) the choice of Indy hats, how can an IndyGear Fan fella like myself be anything but thrilled to finally place his order for his Last Crusade "CRUSADER" in Beaver Fur Felt?

Mr. John Rhys-Davies will be attending my city's Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Convention - called HAL-CON - this Fall. Specifically, it's scheduled for the end of October.
I contacted John to let him know that when I'm at the Con and I'm getting an autograph an photo taken with Mr. Davies and I'd like to see him as "RAIDERS Indy" (while wearing John's Raiders Hat -which I already have) on the first day and "LAST CRUSADE Indy" (in a Penman LC Fedora - which is what I need) on the second day.

In my opinion, there's not a whole lotta things you can feel anticipation about while still feeling free of worry or nervousness about it because you're so sure that complete satisfaction awaits you at the end of the wait...
but for me personally, John's managed to do that THREE times in a row.

Can't wait to get Penman Hat #4
:D

Lastly, are your ribbons black or a extremely dark brown. Thank you sir
My hats are made truly by hand, custom fitted and made to order. So I have nothing for people to walk in and buy off the rack except for the Henry. I do have all the proto types of each offering In the hat shop for people to see.

As for the ribbon. It's a very dark brown. The Indy ribbon I use is the same exact ribbon used in the films. Only AB, ABD and AB Henry and penmans have that ribbon.

Still looks great! I got mine the same year as you and like you said, just keeps getting better and better. Mine is the rabbit version and has become really soft and floppy all around. Almost like the streets of Cairo hat. I just love it!

Been absent for a while. Just finished reading through all the Penman posts I have missed and there are some really beautiful hats here. I need to get a new one soon. I'm thinking anniversary, maybe. :-k ;)

Anyway, wanted to show how my first Penman, the beaver Raiders John basically gave away for $200 back in mid 2008, was holding up. This was taken last October at Universal Studios Orlando. Somehow, I don't really have any good photos of the black wedding hat or the charcoal one John also made for me. I'll keep digging for photos, though. Glad to be back.

Wow, that pic just brought back a lot of memories. I used to work at that park. Their characters still look @#$%. That's a nice looking hat, by the way. I wish my Penman was only $200, but at least I can still brag a little. My A.B. Raiders only set me back $200 brand new in 2006.

I just checked my email on my phone last night as I was in bed before going to sleep and I had a new email. It was a Paypal request from Penman Hats asking for payment! I guess my first ever Penman is about to go on the block! \:D/
I quickly logged in to Paypal and made payment! Now it's just hopefully a little more waiting to do before I have it in my hands!

As soon as I get it there will be photos! (of course!) :TOH:

Well, it was one of the first ten orders John took when he opened up shop back in '08. I took a gamble and boy did it pay off. I ordered the hat I wore at my wedding a few months later, December of '08, I believe, and that was $250. I also picked up my first AB for $200. I think it may have been $220, actually. Steve honored that when I ordered again in 2009 for a Sahara hat with some vintage copper ribbon. Beautiful hat.

Scotty, thanks, brother. Good to be back.

Joe, you are in for a treat, man. There ain't nothing like a Penman!

Talked to John yesterday. He's finishing a couple of hats for me this week/next . . . And I know he's a got few others going at the same time. Be nice to see this thread get a huge bump a few days after John hits the post office. I'm sure I can't be the only COW member attached to these nearly completed orders. :)

And this is good timing for me, as I have been having a bit of a baseball hat summer. But as school is about to start, which means no more t-shirts and shorts, its time to return to dress shirts, ties, slacks, and sport coats. And . . . FEDORAS!!!!!

Now that is mysterious . . . :-k

But I'll fess up. Basically I'm getting 1) a custom "Eno" in rabbit, steel gray with a light gray ribbon, and 2) a very custom CS hat. The "CS" hat is a whiskey colored fedora, built on John's CS block, with a lighter, cream colored ribbon and matching bound edge, and thus it has a non-dimensionally cut brim. So, not exactly an Indy hat, but it will at least be near that size and shape. Essentially I wanted a combination of an CS hat, a Penman Howard Hughes Hat, and the hat worn by Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will Be Blood". DDL's hat is not a fedora, but my hope is that my color combinations will be reminiscent of those on his hat.

DHW I think it's just epic that you are getting a "blood" hat as I shall call it. Also, I have to thank you for ordering such a lid because it's reminds me that I started making one these a while back and shortly after forgot about the project. Thanks to your post I can get back to that lol. Anyway, I look forward to seeing you Penman "blood" style lid.

Thanks again, John, for TWO jobs well done!

And like I already said to you privately, "$%^# you for making me think these two will be it for a while. Not less than 4 hours after opening these two boxes, and I'm already planning what my next few hats will be!" Yes, FEW . . .

I guess this means I will be renewing my "Penman Hat Subscription"

Here is a pic of my boy wearing a hat that used to be a "boss of the plaines" type with a flat brim and crown. Once it lost its shape, I gave it more of a Montana peak. I want one that is a bit different. Not so "cowboy".

This crease is also called the "Campaign" due to its military origins. Sometimes the four pinches are slightly turned leaving a front and back dent rather than a front and back pinch.

I guess you could call that the "Raiders Campaign" :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

Ah. I am finally a member of the "Penman Owners" club. The package was delivered today. I have been waiting for this moment for the past five months, and it was great to finally receive the box today!
Inside the cardboard box was the famous Penman Hat Box, and what a lovely box it is!

Image

I opened the hat box to find the most perfect hat inside. I slipped it carefully out of the box and looked at it for a minute before slipping it on my head, and as i suspected, it fit like a glove, a very comfortable glove!

Image

My only regret was that I'd have to go to bed at some point today and would have to remove the hat from my head :)

Thank you Mr Penman for the finest hat I have ever seen/touched/owned!
