Magneto Leather Pea Coat - Help me Choose?

Post by Obi Sean Kenobi »

All,

I'm really hooked on the look of the Magneto jacket from X-Men: First Class.

Not for costuming - just for regular wear because it's a cool jacket.

To purchase it, there are two options I've found: Wested and RockSeventy.

Here are the options:

http://bit.ly/MenCKW" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.wested.com/new-magneto-style ... -503-p.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Which one is the more SA choice?

I'm meaning towards the RockSeventy - mostly bc of price.

Help!!

I really can't speak to SA, but if you want to wear it as a regular jacket I think the Wested looks nicer. The leather looks nicer and it doesn't have a seam running down the back like the Rockseventy jacket

Hmmm. I'm not crazy about the whole deal - looks like a tweeked version of the Dr Who/U-boat blazer. I just can't cope with the phoney look of pre-aged leather. In dark brown or black it might look better to me. Sorry, not much help.

Here is the dark brown lightweight cowhide......really a supercool jacket. I don`t feel cool enough to be wearing it sometimes!

My wife complains that a guy shouldn`t be wearing that much leather! But it really is a unique cool jacket! Lots of pockets too which I like!

Gorak, that looks so much better than the other leather. I can see why someone would want one now.

Soul Revolver has had some very lengthy production times in the past, as well as some interesting sizing issues. I'd be a bit wary of them, but they have been known to do good work.

Seeing as Wested made that particular coat for the X-Men: First Class film, I'd say you're best bet is to get it from them.
Can't get much more SA than getting it from the guy who made it for the film! :)

I really wanted one of these and tried one on my last visit to wested but didn't get on with the double breast, just felt like way too much leather flapping around.
Shame as I really like the look :tup:
Goraks looks better then the Pre-distressed I tried.

So I wrote to RockSeventy and inquired about making the back panel without the seam and making a few other modifications. I included pics of the Wested made coat.

Interestingly, here was their response:

"Dear obi_sean_kenob,
we can make as we have our own manufacturing unit.Please confirmed your order.We supply to Wested Leather Mr PETER."

Thoughts? Is this truthful?

Poor wording in that reply. I'm wondering after all these posts if we're done now. ;)

I would agree with the choice of a Wested.

In reply to the question?
I supplied the jackets for the films and my Indiana Jones and Magneto jackets are ALL made in the UK in MY factory using high quality leather.
The RockSeventy jackets are made in Pakistan and are unauthorised rip offs not the same quality.
I have never done business with RockSeventy.
Your choice.

I know it's not for everyone - but I really liked the hide it was pictured in. The antique burnished copper hide.

Awesome. I really loved the look of the jacket in that skin but when I discussed it with Gemma, I was told that particular hidewould be too heavy for me down here in South Texas. It was upon their reccommendation that I went with this dark hide as it was the thinnest they had. I like the look but that copper hide really vibes with the style of jacket this is.
