Are fedoras too hot for the summer...?

Depends on where you live.

For example: In the deep South, absolutely.

Out Wested (Like Nevada or Arizona), no, they're not. (dry heat)

Anyway, I live near Nashville, TN and I wear my hat to walk into work everyday and sometimes just out taking a walk. It can get quite hot even in those few minutes into work. But, it has never really bothered me all that much even on longer walks. I don't, partially depends on the way one is bent I suppose.

Here in Central Ontario, Canada, I wear my Fed IV all spring, summer, and fall very comfortably. It's the sub-zero winter when it hangs on a hook in my office.

Yeah, you can tell my hand has typed THAT word a lot over the years, so much so, it automatically adds the 'ed' when I try to type anything else.

I live about a hour and a half southeast of you, and used to do the same thing.

You'll find as you get older, though, your tolerance to heat isn't as good...as well as you suddenly realize the amount of perspiration your hat is being forced to absorb being worn in such weather is just shortening it's life and/or time between cleaning and relocking when you could be wearing something cooler and less apt to absorb said 'sweat'.

Lots of hypothesis' to sort through.

Is that what's going on with me? lol. I am almost 31......and have found that I'm sweating a @#$% ton more than I used too...and hate the heat. lol, yet I live in Texas

Could be. I used to wear fur felt year round, even in Florida, but in the past 10 years I've found, though I'm not too bothered by heat, heat and humidity completely wipe me out. Therefore, I switch to straw as soon as the summer heat and humidity starts to climb.

I inadvertantly did an experiment today. For some reason I went out with a baseball cap on (haven't worn one, except to run, in years). I, and my head, was noticeably warmer than I when I wear a fedora in the same temperature. Like I needed an affirmation of why I wear a fedora and not a ball cap.

Did the same thing a few weeks ago. I think they're as hot as a fedora despite the fabric sweatband. I thought it would be cooler than a fedora.

wore my Akubra Fed 4 all day yesterday golfing. Worked out well, though the temp was in the mid to high 80s. This is my beater fedora though with no liner, which does make a difference.
