X-mas gift for my friend Magnoli (Holt's Akubra Federation)

Post by Holt »

Ever since I joined this club I have been pestering Magnoli about this and that. :lol:He must truly hate me by now. lol. Nah, we are good friends. Anyways, I wanted to reblock his old hat as a favor.

Here it is how it was. it was very tapered, I blocked it twice. I went for a ''well of souls'' / ''climbing the wing'' look with a reverse taper as it is my favorite.

after

To get the the turn right I had to build the hat up under the sweatband. so bear that in mind. after the reblock, the sweatband is pretty wide and it almost rest on my ears. once the hat is dry (which it not is yet) the sweatband tightens and the turn should sit on it's own.

The hat is also without a liner and I also still need to tweak a few minor details, so there is still a few things to get done, but I wanted to post the hat now since I know M is pretty eager to see it. :TOH:

I hope you like it my friend.

I burst out laughing when I saw the ToD screen cap. That really is quite a remarkable change Holt! You really have the eye for the perfect Raider's hat!

That hat is amazing, Holt. What a master.

And :P at the SA ToD hat. Just food for thought: I'm pretty sure the ToD hat in that scene is not nearly as tapered as it looks. In the shot just prior to this Willie is seen smashing and pinching the back of the hat as she uses it to wake up Indy. I realize these are separate shots, meaning separate set-ups, but I'm sure it's the same hat. Perhaps they didn't bother to pop out the pinched back of the hat, just for continuity? I think that's what gives it the nearly conical shape from that angle in that shot.

It took a bit of work, but he finally was able to modify his head to just the accurate size and shape, using only screen grabs!

Necroposing to show how well this hat has held up over the years. I dusted it with some fuller's earth for a recent event (photos coming in the cosplay thread):

I had no idea an Akubra could look that good! The crown on my Fed IV is WAY shorter than that. I would love to send you my Akubra for a reblock. Or maybe you can make an how-to video for the rest of us!

That looks great given it age!
Akubra did a great job on those from the very beginning.
I have my original Fed hanging closee by, and it looks almost as good. (It just needs another reblock.)
They have always held up well and make great Indy hats.

Now, can we talk about that holster? I see ZERO sign of distressing... :CR:

Holt, I NEED my own block. How do I get one like yours???

Dalexs, I actually aged that holster quite a bit, but felt it was over done (in person), so did a Pecard treatment, which brought it back almost to new. In photos it looks more fresh, in person it has a realistic ageing.

And here's another photo from the same shoot:

Love the photo!!

Btw, Why does the title of this thread called (Holt's akubra federation? ) I dont know what I was thinking writing that!, it does not make any sense at all.  It should be called Magnolis AKubra Federation. Lol. Boy! I'm glad I saw that error 11 years later.
