Got mine a couple of years ago at a Bass Proshop in Orlando for only $650. I had the barrel cut down by a local gunsmith for $36, but i have yet to find a good ramped sight to put on it.

Check out my post from awhile ago: "My Bapty Conversion". I had John Duncan work on my 1917 and he custom made a ramped sight for it. No complaints!

I saw that one a while back. He did respond to a question I had but seemed hesitant to do work on a gun that had already been worked on. Heck, I'd love for him to just make a duplicate of the sight and i'd have it put on locally. I don't know.

How are you guys liking the quality of this new pistol? I've seen Smith and Wesson go up and down in quality over the years.

I hate that they didn't use an original shaped hammer, and also had to remove that so-sexy fixed firing pin. (Lawyers... )

I think this is still a very practical pistol. I mean, it's a revolver - provided you don't have to have a fast 13 shots...and very few people really need that.

Didn't they also make it with a color case hardened frame too? And wouldn't a 4" barrel model be cool? How about a 7" target model with a partridge front sight...

I’m very pleased with the classic lines of this revolver. The mechanical modifications aside I wish they had put a little more effort, any effort, into duplication original markings. This revolver is a bear to shoot with the original “splinter” grips. I’d recommend replacing them with original “N” frame S&W Magna grips or Magna type grips from Eagle Grips, smooth or checkered, and add a Tyler T-Grip adaptor (back in manufacture by a new owner) to improve overall shoot-ability while keeping a vintage look. Like a 12GA shotgun nobody argues with the 45ACP.
