Beauty contest
Hey, all! I'm looking for new jacket leather, and wondered how you all "see" the Raider's jacket leather. Here are six samples of texture (ignore the color!) It's hard not having a sense of scale, but do your best. Since Tony opened my mind to the possibility that the leather had heavier grain than I had previously thought, and I think I can see it in some photos, I just wanted to see what you thought.

Re: Beauty contest
#1 looks like goat or tight grained lamb, #2 the underbelly of lamb-possibly cow, #4 heavily striated, #5 I like the color but do not prefer striations in leather, #6 also looks like the underbelley of lamb but could possibly be cow. My vote was for #1.

Re: Beauty contest
Me likey #4.
I dig the bubbly striations and croco-gator scales.
However, any one of those leathers would make a fine Indy jacket.

#4, Color, dull look, striations, make it my choice for a "Raiders" jacket hide.

Hide # 4 recieves my vote followed closely by # 5, however five may just be not choosing to "ignore the color!"

Re: Beauty contest
Yeah, ignore the color and the finish. I can get these any color and finish I want. I just want to see how wrinkly you think the film jacket was.

Re: Beauty contest
I have to say that I agree with Michael. In most of the screen grabs or just watching the movie, the jacket really doesn't appear to have very much grain to it. It looks like it has been beaten up, dragged on the ground and scratched up a good bit. It seems that there will never be a happy medium with us all here. We all see something different at different times and from different jackets used in the film. Personally, I really liked the last offering Todd had on his standard jackets, however his stock ran out of my size before i got to order one. For the record, I went with choice #1.

Re: Beauty contest
#4 looks like the (Bantu Wind) jacket leather to me and I like that jacket. I'm like'n #5 too though.
Re: Beauty contest
5 is very nice but it's hard to get a sense of how it would drape from a photo. That said, puleaaaaase make your sleeves longer!

I voted for #4 but I'm digging the #1 as well...reminds of TNO's 747 cow.

Re: Beauty contest
I'm with Michael as well. I think the shrunken effect has been a bit exaggerated. I voted for number 1.

4 and 5. Either looks pretty good given the perspective of the photos.

Re: Beauty contest
I think 4 looks close to several images I've seen of Raiders.....Very close...
I like 1 too, but more for a personal taste, not for a Raiders theme...

Re: Beauty contest
Todd,
Can you tell me which number was used in the last batch of Bantu Wind Jackets or is it not shown?
thanks,
Jake

Re: Beauty contest
No 1. Not really into the look of textured leather. On screen the jacket always appeared smoothish. What it looked like in real life doen't overly concern me.

Re: Beauty contest
I'm giving it to #5. Just enough grain to give it character with out over doing it. I'm betting that picture was taken with flash and that the real deal is darker than it appears.

Yes, 4 and 5 look terrific, but I think I like 5 better. It is a little bit more subtle but still there. Wouldn't grain pop out more as you wear it anyway?

Re: Beauty contest
Well I picked #1.
Why you ask, well I'll tell you.
I think that striations are all well and good and I love em on my SL wings, but only in moderation.
#1 looks smoother than #4, #4 looks to exotic. To many straitions. Indys jacket for the most part was smooth, so as long as the new offering is in lamb, and I pray it is, I want a light weight jacket. My current custom Todds needs the sleeves a tad longer, not sure if it shrinkage, but tried streching and it helped.................... sorry I'm ranting now.
Todd go with #1, and if by chance a little stration finds it's way all the better.

Re: Beauty contest
I would like to see the hands of all the other Jacket Vendors who are actually bringing their design to the table and asking for our collective opinion? A daunting and taxing #### to bring upon yourself, knowing how we are, but still nevertheless, really interested in what we think. WOW. Props to u Todd's..
makes md just want to go buy some Todd's stuff just because...
heck, I could wear some Xena stuff too!

I'm always going against the grain it seems (ha ha pun) but I like the vein look of #3. I guess 4 others liked it too but were afraid to identify themselves.

Re: Beauty contest
Isn't that the news anchor for Channel 4?
Oh and the thread is called Beauty contest so I guess 4 wins.

Re: Beauty contest
They all look great! After review, I am in favor of NUMBER 5! I really like the colour and texture displayed. Of coarse I am a strange one. They really are all very nice -- just like 5 best! W>

The grain on 5 is also nice but the color is wrong. 4 fits the bill.

For whatever reason I am not able to cast a vote. But I definitely dig #4 for what I see as a Raiders leather based on the pictures provided.

Are all these photos taken at the same scale? It seems like #4 is more "zoomed out" to me.

Re: Beauty contest
I voted for #5 just because it seems like a less over-the-top version of #4. Although it is maybe a little harder to picture that as an Indy jacket due to the leather color. I think the #4 texture would be too much all over the jacket, selected penitent patches of it might pass. In my mind something between #4 & 5 would be best.
