Nice job Mitch!!
It still looks dark....I remember that Weston's and _'s seemed to lighten after similar treatment....
Awesome look!!! As I've said before though, I just don't have the stomach..

I was just thinking of doing this to my jacket. the dryer and tennis shoes thing. no heat. I only wanna do it to soften it more up and get alittle more drape. did yours soften more up _?

Re: USW Striated Lamb Legend, US Made
Well am I glad this thread got resurected, as I too put mine through a bath (hot water) then let drip dry. then into the dry on med. heat, wore it around some, figured what the hey, into the dryer on high heat for 15 min. Came out perrty stiff, put some pecards on it (ya I know _, all for nothing, just wear it Croft ) So I did wear it alot to break it "back in". Has that leather creak I love, sleeves shrunk enough so now even though I have some wrinkles in the sleeves, not as much as before to get them at the thumb knuckel. Now I'm kinda hoping for colder weather (bite my tung )
First too shots are on my maniquin to try and set it some. Other were out and about at some spots I wanted to gear up in to see how they looked, just havein fun.
Enjoy. Next I'm going to take a pick in side like before to do a before and after, stay tuned.
Croft
Oh and I love how your back panel turned out Mitch, love that look. Wish mine had half the charater yours has.

Really awesome looking, Croft. You so definitely rock the Indiana Jones jacket, man.
The back shot of you wearing it makes me think of hanging off the truck grill look.
Mitch, super cool. Always a natural. We are lucky you ended up liking Indygear as a hobby..be a shame to hide your mug behind a Vader mask!

Those look great guys! Croft, that jacket looks fifty years old. Excellent!
Mitch, is your jacket really that dark, or is it the light? Either way, it's a beauty!

While I the actual jacket is still very dark (a deep, rich, dark brown color is probably the best way I would describe it), after considering your question and taking another look at the photos I posted I think it's probably safest for me to say that something about the lighting in these shots makes it look just a shade "blacker" than I think it looks in person.Weston wrote:Mitch, is your jacket really that dark, or is it the light?
But again, perhaps the explanation for this was that I only threw mine in the dryer with a bed sheet (and even that step was only taken to minimize the noise of the zipper clinking against the inside of the drum!) ... and like _ mentioned, he had tennis shoes to keep his company.
Croft, I have to join the other fellas here and say that your jacket looks GREAT after the treatment you gave it!
I think in particular the change in the length of the arms is just a huge improvement. Now you've still got those great wrinkles, but the arms look more "Indy" and have less of that "Michelin Man"-ny arm look that some jackets can sometimes get.
Also just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who chimed in with some nice words about how the jacket is looking. They're much appreciated!

Croft and Mitch, your jackets both look fantastic, in my eyes they really nail the Indy look! As I looked through both your pics, I found myself thinking that maybe I need to pick one of these up...thanks a lot, just what I need, ANOTHER Indy leather...
Seriously though, look great, congrats guys!

Holt that is one terrific jacket!!
Very Raiders i think, especially that back shot. It reminds me of the hike to the Peru temple.
Oh and nice scenery too. nothing beats conifers and aspen. Are those aspens? do you have aspens over there there or something similar?

Thanks, Sarge!
I'm going for the Texas steerhide. Already have the lamb Legend, and need something tougher now.
The jackets in this thread really look great. I'm just too chickenspit to put my lamb in a washer/dryer!!

COOL Jake... I'm very happy for you!Indiana Jake wrote:Sarge,

I'm so glad about how this has played out: And to think that I hesitated before posting those photos of the back of my jacket because I was worried that I'd be "resurrecting" a Thread that no one had posted in for 3 months (and really only for the purpose of saying, essentially "Still lovin' this jacket!" and "after it's wash I think it's looking better than ever!" )
Instead, both Croft and Holt posted some GREAT photos and we got another batch of great feedback and discussion on the subject of these nice jackets.
Now, on top of it all, another Member will get a deal on this offering from U.S. Wings...
Once again, Jake... I'm really glad this worked out this way for ya!

This is the thread "USW Striated Lamb Legend, US Made" and according to US WINGS site, the U$D 295.- offer is for the Striated Lamb or Steerhide IMPORTED Legend jacket.
It is important to avoid confusion, so there are no disappointments, or endless waits for a jacket that should be in stock ready to ship.

You can get the US Made for $295, but you have to add COW Roll Back in the remarks box on the order form. This special price will not be listed on the USW website. Only for us as a gift from Sarge.

Question. By "standard size", does that exclude the 2XL Longs?

Sarge is top shelf. No doubt about it.
In a converstion I had with Sarge waaaaaaaaaaaay back when, I remember telling him, oh I'd never throw it in a washing machine. Well I hope giving it bath doesn't count, I just had to shrink it some, but now I'm lovin this jacket and wear it every chance I get. And living in NH, the weather can change quickly. 70"s and 80's last couple days, tommorrow to go over 90deg.
But this offer of 295.00, if I didn't allready own one, Id buy one.

I still have my vision problems But here is the deal for COW members only and I hope I make myself clear...The Indy Style Made in the USA by my business partner Roz Shott Indy Legend Striated Lamb for the rest of the month of June only and please no rain cks because I nor Roz have any extra stock ! $ 295.00 plus shipping.. Now the good news is we do have some longs but there is an extra charge for longs as seen on our site and the reason is very simple More leather!!I told Michaelson today I thought we had 6 boxes of Striated Lamb But after Lisa open the boxes we do not have that many.. As of this morning we had 52 Indy Style Legend Striated Lamb made in the USA jackets... I do not have any extra Striated Lamb at this time and honestly have no clue when we will get any more in the near future and for sure I won't offer it below my cost.. I told everyone last year what was going to happen to the prices and Fans that time is here and it will never get better for a very long time to come!! The price of leather has gone up and is going up a lot more.Indiana Croft wrote:Sarge is top shelf. No doubt about it.

Re: USW Striated Lamb Legend, US Made
VERY torn on this latest round of information and photos. I really looked hard at these on their initial outing, but shied away because I thought these would look too long on me.
I'm somewhere between 5'7"-5'8" about 150-155 lbs and I know there are others, similar in height/weight, who have gotten these jackets and they look great!
This special temporary price on these U.S.-made jackets is really increasing my temptation.
I just have a hard time justifying to the wife why I need a third jacket, regardless of its price point, but I'm ever so close to pulling the lever on this one.
At any rate, it is very good to see you back Sarge!

Three jackets? I didn't get grief until I hit about 10. I think it's the small closets in our house

No, we have tiny closets too; I wear the ever-loving snot out of all my stuff.
I have a Todd's Small (2008) and Medium+ (2009) so I've been looking to get a companion jacket from another vendor.
I'm still just on the fence with ordering another at all, or who's jacket to get if/when I do, but these do look sweet.

I know. I'm trying to find out what the cost is of the Longs - or if there's any break on those. If not, I can pass. If it's close to the $295, I'm doomed. Or, Temple of Doomed
Re: USW Striated Lamb Legend, US Made
I absolutely love this striated lamb (sheep)! Other than it being a tad too thick, to my eye it has about as good of a Raiders vibe as anything out there. G&B and Todd's may be a hair better on cut or construction but they don't have the "warts" like the SL Legend. Not sure I'll ever run mine through the washing machine but man the results look great. Personally I just love the feel of this leather. I can see where the lack of drape might be a turn off to some but in theory I would guess a thicker skin to be more durable and warm. Both are great trade offs for those of us willing to sacrifice that aspect of what we see on screen.
Dang this site. Now I have an XL on the way to pair with my L. Just too good of a deal for me to pass up given that I plan on hitting the weights this summer. I couldn't abuse the L as much as I'd like out of fear of shrinkage. It's a pretty close fit. I'm real intrigued at how the XL will fit. I suspect I'll like the fit better and if not well I shouldn't have any trouble finding someone who does.
For anyone on the fence I wouldn't delay. If you want a well built thick lamb jacket with a really cool vibe you won't do better than this. Well worth the price.

Re: USW Striated Lamb Legend, US Made
Been a while since I was measured but I was at 40" then so I'd guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 41"-42". Sorry I don't have a tape measure handy plus it's kind of hard to self measure. I'm one of those cursed souls trapped between being a large and an extra-large. The large fit really good at first but now it tends to bind in the shoulders a bit more than I like.bobcatmvp1 wrote:What is your chest size that the Large fits so close?gladd96 wrote:I absolutely love this striated lamb (sheep)! Can someone give me a pit-to-pit measurement of a large or large long? It'd be appreciated.

And a back length please. From everything I've read and researched these are too long.

Re: USW Striated Lamb Legend, US Made
Also, if someone could give me the back measurement of their XL and/or XL-long it would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to decide which size.
Re: USW Striated Lamb Legend, US Made
"from everything I've read and researched these are to long" -That's what she said
The length of this type of jacket is about as subjective of a thing as there is. To my eye the basic proportion is there- now it's probably not spot on to a screen used Raiders jacket but Harrison Ford's measurements are pretty far away from average so that's probably a good thing.
Rough measurements taken with a tape measure!
XL:
Pit to pit 24"
waist 22"
bottom of collar stand to jacket bottom 26-1/2"
L:
pit to pit 23"
waist 22"
bottom of collar stand to jacket bottom 25-1/2"
After trying on my new XL I can say these jackets are fairly close to each other in terms of size but if you have lanky shoulders like I do or desire a jacket that doesn't restrict your motion then the XL is probably the way to go. It's weird I like the fit of both jackets though to be fair the XL is comfy stiff out of the box and should become even more comfy as it breaks in. Also the leather on the L is thicker and has a cool shiny finish that I like while the XL is thinner with a little more of a matte finish plus it seems to have more grain. I like the feel of the leather of my first jacket better and the grain on my second is better but that's just luck of the draw I guess. Anyway I won't feel as bad about giving the new XL a bit of a treatment since it doesn't have as luxurious of a feel to it and it's grain is just begging to be popped. Think I'll be holding on to both jackets.
This is a great deal on a quality made in the USA jacket but these seem to run fairly true to standard USA off-the-rack sizes where Wing's jackets normally run a but larger. If you can wear or should I say if you can either fit a standard size to a T or are happy to live with the limitations of a non custom jacket you would be hard pressed to do better than this jacket for $295!

I should have asked this to begin with, but do you know the sleeve lengths of each?

Re: USW Striated Lamb Legend, US Made
Just got my jacket Tuesday night. I have taken some 'before' pictures of it that I will post soon to compare what I am in the process of doing. Right now it is 'during' stage so no other pictures as of yet. I am in the middle of doing some things to it. Here's where I'm at up to now. I placed it in the tub with COLD water and got it soaked. I stepped on it with my bare feet, wrinkled it with my hands, and then wrung it out. I placed it in the washer with a towel and some old t-shirts, and only put it on the spin section of the washing cycle to remove most of the water. I then took the jacket, t-shirts and towel and placed them in the dryer for 20 minutes with NO heat. Then I put it on, got in the car and drove for about an hour - an errand. I had to change my shirt where I stopped, as it was mostly soaked. Then I placed the jacket on a flat surface with a towel underneath. I placed more t-shirts inside to absorb moisture and let it sit overnight. Right now as I type, I am wearing it, and it is still damp. I will not put this coat on a hanger till it's completely dry. The moisture in the area of the front pockets make the jacket seem excessively bottom-heavy. I don't want hanger marks in the shoulders, and I don't want the wet pockets to stretch the jacket and make it longer. I will likely let it dry flat and then oil it with Pecard's. After the Pecard's I will be done doing things to it. At this point I will take the comparison pics.
Here are some observations based on my limited knowledge of Indy jackets:
This jacket is sturdy, and a bit heavy. Maybe cause it's wet right now? It was heavy before I got it wet. I might also be comparing the weight of the US Wings lamb to the Todd's Bantu Wind Lamb. What a weight difference.
The leather is beautiful. This jacket has striations, but not like the Bantu Wind Todd's Jacket I just got, and not like some of the other striated lamb photos I've seen on this thread. Maybe because I did not add any heat? What I do have are some great wrinkles and creases. It's really starting to look good. I can't wait till it's dry.
With the exception of the weight, this jacket just screams Raiders mostly because of the way it wrinkles and has the striations. Based on what I've understood from reading here, I'm starting to think that the Bantu Wind Todd's jacket is more like the one that was worn in Raiders - being lighter in weight and the heavy striated texture. However, I think that this jacket will give many years of wear, especially in colder temperatures. I do like how sturdy it feels.
BTW - Sarge- you are offering a very fine product and customer service to the hobby.

Jake it takes on a shocking amount of weight when it's saturated! It will take a long time to dry, and it will take an even longer time to soften up, but it will lighten up significantly as it does. Let it dry completely and then give it a good coat of dressing; it will soak it up! Make sure you pay attention to areas like the inside of the action pleat, underneath the side straps, and the areas of the jacket that are the thickest such as the pockets and storm flap will soften up quicker if you crush them with your hands from time to time. The end result should be beautiful! Best of luck, and can't wait to see the pics!

I don't plan on it. I'm loving the way the new antique lamb breaks in just from normal wear.Sgt. wrote:

Indiana Jake, just wait to get till the charachter starts to show, you'll be waiting for the right weather to wear this baby, I know I do.
Here're couple I took the other day, man it gets hot weaqring this one in the sun, but can realy see how it looks in the bright sun of NH desert.
And one of the back.
Next photo op, in acouple of weeks, the misses and I will hit the beach befor the sun rises, trying to get some picturesque shots. I'll need her help for these, above shot take alone using the 10sec timer.
Lot of running back and fourth, but fun.
Heres another just for cause I like it.

These are great shots Croft! Man, with that lighting, that background, that jacket looks like it walked off the set! I expect you to get attacked by a big bald German mechanic at any moment! If it happens, show us the pics.
Well done!
