Wested's New LC-CS offering

Post by atkins »

I just saw this minutes ago, http://www.wested.com/last-crusadecryst ... -451-p.asp

Has anyone order it? I wonder is the predistressed leather is the same as Wolverine 's jacket?

Looks alot like the copper novapelle skin that was previously offered. Color is similiar. Makes a nice LC type jacket.

i ordered this 'worn look' hide just before cs was released.its a bit thinner and lighter in colour than the novapelle .i applied some leather conditioner to it which darkened the hide and made it a little more water resistant as its like a sponge in the rain.as stated above this pre-distressed leather is ideal for a LC jacket.(hope to post some pics in the near future)

The Last Crusade jacket and the CS jacket are very different.

I can't get over the crazy marketing here which has Wested describe the CS jacket as a copy of his LC jacket when he can't make either jacket look like the film versions without substantial help from his customers.

But I know on the other side of this equation that Peter is generous with his time with the fans and has generally tried to get us what we want. I'm conflicted on this issue.

Can't wait to see photos, Donovan. Does it have the 'pebbly texture' of some novapelle we saw here?

atkins-my pre-distressed (worn look ) hide does not have that "pebble" texture of the novapelle.it is smooth with little grain but it scuffs and marks easily making it look like i've been wearing it for years.it was very light brown in colour (way too light ! ) so it did need darkening down to look more lc/cs in my opinion . but once the scuffs , marks, wrinkles set in and you've been in a couple of rain showers this leather just screams indiana jones !! :TOH:

It indicates that the CS jacket is a replica of LC - I suppose to some degree that could be made an argument, just as LC is a "replica" of Raiders - there certainly are differences (sliders, pocket sizes, storm flap buttons etc), but not differences that most people outside of a Gear Forum would know - BUT I did see the irony that the write up, while not giving any acknowledgement or credit to TNO, insinuates that the CS is an LC knock off - but at the end of the Wested.com video "See us on TV" there is a jacket maker with a promo still from CS tacked to the wall next to his sewing machine - so indirectly saying that Wested is making knock-off Tony CS jackets.

clear as mud??

that picture of Ford with the CS jacket next to the machinist is the picture I sent wested to copy. if you notice it has a blue arrow on it pointing at the lining. right above the gunbelt. I did that. I still have the same picture stored I sent peter.

The pockets on this offering look more KOTCS-ish than LC. The Nowak KOTCS pockets are a little more scalloped. It looks like a hybrid LC & Nowak to me. I kind of like it!

Cheers Peter!

Hi everyone,
I happen to have a one year old (and more) Raiders style jacket in Worn-Look-Hide from Wested.
All I can say is that I love my jacket, the leather is very heavy but softens easely. But like Donovan said, it scuffs and marks easily, very easily !

Will post some pics of it tomorrow in sunlight because it's already dark here in good old Europe. I will also post a pic of it next to my brown lambskin so you can see the difference.

For now this is all I can do, sorry.
Doesn't looks that light indoors...

Forgot to mention that my jacket was not darkend and no leather conditioner was applied.
All natural distressing from wearing the jacket every day. Michaelson's distressing technique :M: .
Only need to add some Pecard one day...

Thank you Michael and Holt :notworthy: . Coming from two Indy gear guru's, it means a lot to me.

Now, here are the pictures of my jackets :whip: .
Taken indoors (sorry Holt, you won't see my garden today :D ), but in direct sunlight anyway.

Wested Worn look hide Custom ROLA :
Image
(No dirt on the pocket, it is only the light.)

Compared to my Wested dark brown Authentic Lamb, Custom ROLA (worn A LOT, 4 years old) :
Image

Both together, Auth. Lamb left and WL hide right :
Image
You can see how easily it scuffs and marks !

Sleeves, WL hide left and Auth. Lamb right :
Image

You can see the huge difference in color between the two jackets. And the Worn look hide realy makes a great CS jacket, IMO.

Voila :TOH: ! Hope this helps.

thanks for those. :TOH: I have become a fan of pre distressed hides over the last year or so. I think it is light in color yes but still very Indy. to light for Raiders but very nice for CS.

I bought the old style LC in the pre-distressed cowhide on the basis of the photo of _'s jacket that used to be on the main site. I'm a huge fan of that leather. It's twice as light in colour and in weight than the novapelle and way lighter in colour than any of Wested's other offerings. I am extremely glad I ordered it, just because it is that different. If you plan to limit yourself to a single Indy jacket, the pre-distressed leather won't be as dark as what you see on screen in the first three films, so you might shy away from it, but if you already have a dark jacket, it gives you some vintage-looking variety.

So you can get the pre-distressed cowhide in dark brown, like this X-o jacket and it is lighter in weight than the Novapelle?

What he said!

I'm going to place an order for a LC and was going to do Novapelle, but that X-O leather is PERFECT.

Now I just need to sell my custom, month-old Magnoli LC in goatskin...mwahaha!

Donovan,

I really like what you have done to the jacket and it is really looking the part. What type of leather conditioner did you use to achieve the look? Was it a water based leather lotion, an oil base, or something like Pecard?

texan scott-pm sent.

for others that may be interested as well ,when i received the jacket
i laid it out in the sun and covered it in "fiebings" leather care conditioner
from "the leather care company" they are based in the uk so am unsure if
this is available in the US but i dont think this product is anything special so
you could find something similar.its an oil based cream that when applied claims
to "clean, waterproof, strengthen and beautify" but it also had the effect of
permanently darkening the leather which is what i desired.no more than two
applications were used to achieve the results seen in the pics.

Hi all,

I just came across this thread while doing a search on Wested's pre-distressed Last Crusade jackets.

In doing the search, I did come across a lot of pics of the pre-distressed hide, but I didn't really care for the rather light color of the hide until I had seen Donovan's. However, to darken it, he stated that he had used "Fiebings" leather care conditioner from "the leather care company."

I was just curious to see, since this thread at been posted for awhile, if anyone here had darkened their pre-distressed hides just as Donovan had done. If so, what did you use as a substitute for the Fiebings in order to darken up the hide? Any pics of the final results?

Thanks for any info!

Aaron,

It's not a Wested, but I used Lexol conditioner to darken my US Wings antique cow Hero jacket. That leather is fairly light, too, and one application of the Lexol darkened it to the point where it is very similar to the color of Donovan's jacket. It's a water based conditioner of many of the same oils used in the tanning process. I don't know whether it's permanent, but I did it in early spring and the jacket does not appear to have lightened any. I'm thinking one application per spring will keep it looking the color I want it.

Rick

Thanks Rick!

I actually did a quick search on ebay for the Fiebings leather care conditioner and was happy to see that they're available for only like $5 w/ maybe $3 for shipping :D . So, between this brand and the Lexol, I may reconsider the pre-distressed cowhide after all, lol.

If anyone happens to have any more pics of your 'treated' pre-distressed cowhides, please feel free to post em,' ;) .

Thanks again and all the best,
Aaron

I simply gave my jacket above a coat of Pecard leather dressing and it darkened nicely. Did that some months ago now and it's still dark.
