Bullwhip used to make a connection with someone

Post by Columbiana Jones »

Just wanted to share this story. I am a therapist, and I work with families of children who have special needs and learning issues. I started working with a nine-year-old boy recently who has been diagnosed with autism, and learned very quickly that he loves Indiana Jones--a few weeks ago he started drawing pictures of him on the large white-board I have on the wall in my office. Yesterday, I took one of my whips (a nine-foot Del Carpio kip Raiders) in with me. At the end of our session, I told him that I had brought something to show him that I thought he might like--and then I brought out the whip. He was so delighted! He lit up and started talking about a lot of other things that were sort of tangential to the whip and Indy, but that whip really opened up some new things in him, and helped me connect on a new level, I think. . .and incidentally, his mother reached out when I first brought it out and said "show me how this thing works!" and proceeded to handle it in a somewhat capable way (I have a LARGE room just outside my office where we could do this)! :D

Firstly, I don't believe that we have been introduced. :TOH:

Thank you for posting this lovely story. It is very inspirational.

It's funny because we all like Indy, we love the movies and we get into the gear and sometimes, we don't always realise that we can change another persons life through the hobby.

It's wonderful that you have been able to change a person's life in this way. Kudos to you! :notworthy:

How wonderful that you two should end up drawn together. Two fans; one in need of help, and one equipped to give it. A wonderful story. I hope things continue to go well.

Hello and Thank you for sharing!
I happen to be a parent of a 4 year old who has been diagnosed with PDD/NOS, and I can tell you that I live for little breakthroughs such as this. I also know how difficult it is to find good help; this family has been fortunate enough to find you :D

Cheers,
John M.
