The Queensland Crossover

YES!!!! I finally learned it! This crack scared and confused me for so long, but I finally nailed it tonight. I watched Adam's video, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_UegNWo93M

. . . and something just clicked. I think the part about how not to hit yourself finally made sense. So, I walked outside (it was nighttime already) and stood with the street light by my house behind me and faced my shadow, and I just did it. It was quite miraculous. I've been working on this for about 6 months and it just didn't make sense until tonight. Thank you, Adam! You rock!

After I refine it a little, I'll work on a video of myself doing it, though I'll probably wait until my pair of 7 footers arrive from Bernardo. And for the record I did it with two 6 footers with 8" handles: my (ahem!) Midland Whips Kip hide, and my David Morgan. They aren't a matched pair, obviously, but they got the job done.

Woo-hoo! I love learning new cracks!

This is a pic of me using these same two whips from my camping trip in August, but I'm not doing the crack, I was probably doing something much more simple . . .

Nice, Daren! That looks like a tough one for sure... I wouldn't even try to learn that unless I had a nice pair of Lauren Wickline's matched performance hybrid bullwhips in gold and white, like....the.......ones......you.........



No, really though - does it work with those guys? You should make the video using those! Although watching Adam do it, it looks like a heavier pair might be nice. Thoughts?

Congrats Daren!
Nothing bigger than the smile that creeps across your face once you've learned a new crack.
Right now, I'd be happy to be able to get outside and get ANY cracking in. We've had frigid temps and snow storms.
I have to be content to perform the forward flick and underhand flick in my apartment

I have yet to work on cracking with my left hand, I should start that work this summer...

Shane, it does work with the PH whips, though at this point I'm getting better results with my Indy whips. I find that the swivel action on the PH whips gives me a little less control than with the others. I'm sure once I get a pair of stockwhips it will get easier still, but at this point, the two 6 footers, even with only the 8" handles, are fine for the job.

I just got the first of my two new whips from Bernardo yesterday: 7 feet with a 9" handle. I tried using it in my right and the 6' Morgan in my left and it still worked pretty well. So, I'm confident that when my other 7 footer arrives, I'll be able to do this pattern with that matched pair pretty well. I'll make a video when I do. And in that video I'll also do it with my PH whips, the 6 footers, and the matched pair of Joe Strain "Aussie style" 4 footers that I showed you at the QM. It works quite well with those.

Now, if I can learn to do it leading with my right hand and not just my left . . . switching back in forth, the way Adam does, that's the next challenge . . .
