Can someone help me?

I am currently making a 10 foot, 20 plait bullwhip for Christmas. I have come to the realization that I dont know how to go from the under 1/over 1 to and under 5/over 5 for the thong of the whip. I asked Bernie if he could make a video but he said hes very busy with work. Can someone help me please?

Bernie had a video on youtube that shows how to transition from diamond to herringbone.
Probably not the same plaite count as what you are doing, but, it may give you the idea.

However, if this is just the transition from handle to thong, it doesn't really matter as it will be covered by the transition knot. (if it is for decorative reasons, start looking for Bernies video).
You can just go from under 1 over 1 straight into under 5 over 5. The ring knot will cover it.
This is what I usually do when transitioning from plaiting the handle to the thong.

Thats what I was thinking I was going to do. I'm just somewhat of a perfectionist. I'm honestly just making another whip for my collection. I should probably mention that its a nylon one. I'm tired of not being able to crack my 10 footer during the winter so I just thought I would make one out of nylon. The color is called desert sand. I think its going to be a real beauty. Ill post pictures when I'm finished with it.

it's late here right now, but I'll figure it out and get you the steps for a clean transition some time tomorrow.

okay, printed out some graph paper and drew out the design transition that you asked for. I normally plait my pairs left/right, left/right and so that is how I've written it out. If you happen to start your pairs right/left, then just switch the titles of the two columns around and it should work just fine. I tried to put them side by side, but everything just got jumbled up when I hit submit, so I had to stack the columns instead. just do one from each column sequentially (left 1, right 1, left 2, right 2, etc.)

I also use that method. I figured that out from Bernie's video, he changes pattern using 16 strands, couple of minutes of thinking how to do it with 20 strands and voila.

what I do is print out a grid from this site http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/axonometric/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

it's just like graph paper, but the lines are on a diagonal. you will have to play with the settings to get the right amount of squares, but it's not too difficult. Once you have this printed out, draw a thick zig-zag line down the center (along the grid lines) to separate your left and right sides. Once that's done start to draw your pattern, you can get as fancy as you like. bird's eye, bracelets, flowers, if you can draw it, you can plait it. I just shade the squares for one color and leave the others white. Then the tedious part comes in, I number the different rows on each side and go about counting my over unders for each side. If my left is the lighter color, then every dark square is an under, and every white square is an over (vice versa for the other side. Once it's all written down, just follow your plan and everything should work out.

I know it sounds complicated, or at least it is to explain, but this diagram should help explain things better( if it looks a little small, hold down the CTRL key and hit the + sign on your keyboard a couple times to zoom):

I've been wanting to do a multi pattern handle for some time now (but, I'm too lazy to figure it out )

Definately be giving it a try.
