Shoulder Pads?

Post by SkyChief »

I saw a post in the classifieds section about a Wested circa 2007. The seller mentioned that they'd removed the shoulder pads and sewn the lining back up...

Have I missed something? When did any Indy jacket come with shoulder pads?

This is an off-the-rack Wested I purchased in 2007. I...removed the shoulder pads and sewed the lining back in place.
Sounds like a new jacket to me. The seller mentions "authentic lamb" and "80's fit." All terms I remember from a couple of years back in regards to Westeds. But I never remember shoulder pads ever being mentioned.

yep, my 2008 came with pads. I ripped them out in about 3 sec after I got the jacket. Hey! I dont want to feel like the wardrobe people of ''FAME'' had a run with my Indy jacket.

why were they there? I learned that ''India wested'' jackets made them with pads.

It must have been one of those random features, because my Wested, which predates at least one of the two jackets mentioned hear, did not have shoulder pads.

My 2003 LC style Wested has them (along with the absolute worst pocket placement ever seen). But, that was before I joined here and knew better. I actually still have them in, but you really can't tell. They are really thin.

My OTR had shoulder pads - took them out and it looks way WAY better. That was 2007 too.

When I purchased this jacket in the mid 90's, it came with thin shoulder pads. It was relatively easy to pick out the stitching in the lining, remove the pads, and sew it back up.
No one would ever know they had been there.
While not truly an "Indy" jacket, it has sort of a Raiders vibe (shorter and fitted), but also tosses in a bit of Aero Highwayman, Vanson Enfield, and a few other classic designs.

No, no - I'm at work right now and just bought a fresh coffee. This could be good. Please, continue.

Didn't US Wings make a version with shoulder pads at one point, as well? :-k

Shoulder pads were in the ROTLA specific jackets a few years ago. These were the ones not made in England, and also had the 80's fit. I'm not coordinated enough to have taken the pads out myself, so I had Mrs. Blooze do it. Never even missed'em.

man, I just pulled out one of my very first Indy jackets that I ripped the pads out of. I had forgotten all about what a wonderfull jacket it really is.. For the first time I noticed it also had elastics in the pleats. dang I hate that. So I made a hole in the lining and cut out two black elastics. and voila way more Raiders vibe with the pleats staying open. THAT's what that jacket needed....

I'll post some pictures of it. the jacket is very Raven barish and its just an of the rack... I guess I was lucky getting it.
