Re: The 'Streets Of Cairo' Hat Display Page
Did you mean, hooose head?...let's see.... ...I'm weighing my options here...
*Like the very similar term hosehead, the term may have referred to farmers of the Canadian prairies, who would siphon gas from farming vehicles with a hose during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The expression has since been converted to the verb 'to hose' as in to trick, deceive, or steal - for example: "That card-shark sure hosed me."
*Hosehead is a character of the Transformers toyline and television series. He is an Autobot Headmaster and transforms into a fire engine. He should not be confused with the character Cab.
*Hosed has an additional meaning of becoming drunk - for example: "Let's go out and get hosed."
Mitch has dissed me....

NOT AT ALL!
I meant it with only the deepest of affection for you!
As Canucks are often in the habit - at least in these "Post-Bob&DougMacKenzie" Days - of calling each other "Hose-heads" -or "Hosers"- as a sign (albeit a teasing one) of affection and comraderie for one another...
Whether someone is a "Hoser" by birth OR Honorary "Hoser" like yourself, Scott... please know that I meant it ONLY as a nod to the quirky, oddball & strange sense of humor you so proudly display... the type of which that I so often am witness (and victim) to from my own fellow Countrymen!
(MANY of them, RELATIVES!)
(Oh... you never did say... Do you think the hat in the avatar looks alright, or...?)

I love this. So authentic looking. Looks as though you are in the middle of shady "deal" about to go on with someone who has the "thing" that you need to find that artifact that is just within your reach.
I added it to my file of pics.

Re: The 'Streets Of Cairo' Hat Display Page
Here`s mine....I had an old Allessandria that I bought from PeterBros. in its heydey for Indy fedoras. Been put away and was going to get rid of it at a garage sale but just couldn`t part with the fact that it cost me $300. So I figured I would take all my spare hat parts and try and put together a SoC I could distress.

distressing done with yellow chalk from pics of Fedoraraiders hats. Ribbon is from a Fed, Bowler hat Block, Sweatband from an akubra, and lining from an AB. Very soft and very comfortable and fun to wear...wife hates it!

Many thanks guys!! Even here in Italy you can find some 'Cairoish' places
Re: The 'Streets Of Cairo' Hat Display Page
I was just wondering... Do any of you wear your SoC-styled hats in public without the costume on and in just ordinary non-Indy clothing?

I do... frequently, in fact.
I often wear it on the walk to and from work.

Re: The 'Streets Of Cairo' Hat Display Page
Wow, a lot of great looking SoC hats in here.
I recently received an AB Henry. I then had my first attempt ever at bashing a hat. It's not modeled after SoC, but after the pics on the indygear main page, which embody pretty much what I think back on as "it".
There's still some details I'll be revisiting when I get time. Plus I have to find a way to make it seem shorter.

To lower the crown, wet it with a sprayer, push out the front pinch, and bring the whole crown down by pushing in the front and/or back of the center dent, reshaping it as you go. When you get it to height that looks closer to those pictures and/or what you want, work the front pinch back in, adjusting the top dent as needed. Im sure youll get what you want with that hat.

And thanks for the tip. I'm currently following another tip, turning the hat over on the crown and letting it sit like that for a while. But I will of course have to move the pinch down, so I'll definitely try your method out.
Thanks again, Noah. Nice to see a familiar face!Noah wrote:Hey MaXer! Great job on bashing the hat!

Re: The 'Streets Of Cairo' Hat Display Page
I wear my Soc hat whenever I am going to a place that would call for "that look"...ie..the flea market, out-door events (Strawberry festival, Art show, Bayfest, anything that takes place outside and I would not be needing my leather jacket. And, let me tell you, it is fun and really sparks up a Raiders Cairo Vibe with the sleeves rolled up and letting the wife buy wares to carry around. I actually had some people taking pics at the Art show recently. They worked for some local paper but I never saw what became of it but, yeah, wearing SoC out as regular wear ROCKS!!!

I would suggest turning the
Hat first before creasing again. Try and get the front crease between 4 1/2 and 4 3/4 .
seem shorter.
I'm so glade you posted these shots. It shows that the hat isn't as tall as most think it is.

Re: The 'Streets Of Cairo' Hat Display Page
Ya, laying the hat on its crown will not bring it down anywhere near as much as needed, unless, of course, you park a truck on top of it, although it may take the lovely roundness out of the humps if left on its top too long (without the truck).MaXer wrote:And thanks for the tip. You're welcome.BendingOak wrote:I'm so glade you posted these shots. It shows that the hat isn't as tall as most think it is.
Do people generally think it's even taller than that? In the pics, the Henry is taller than the "real" one.
I left it overnight with 3 or 4 movies on top of it. Couldn't get a truck through the front door. I may just remember wrong, but I think it helped.Indiana Bugs wrote:Ya, laying the hat on its crown will not bring it down anywhere near as much as needed, unless, of course, you park a truck on top of it, although it may take the lovely roundness out of the humps if left on its top too long (without the truck).MaXer wrote:And thanks for the tip. Re: The 'Streets Of Cairo' Hat Display Page
Just working on getting my Henry all SoC'd up. I think, though I'm gonna have to tighten the ribbon up as Holt posted. I used the elastic band trick to get the bulge on the side. Not dusted it yet though.
I'll post some pics.
Some really amazing SoC work going on here. Hope I can get mine half as good.

If yours is a Henry you didn't crease the center dent low enough.

What exactly is the elastic band trick? I've been going nuts trying to get "the bulge".
Seriously though. Is it a band around the base of the crown? Does that not come out once you put the lid on your head?
Re: The 'Streets Of Cairo' Hat Display Page
Aye, it's an elastic band round the crown. Have a look at Bullitts Henry in this thread and check out this viewtopic.php?f=1&t=39131&p=584772#p584772Arch Stanton wrote:Ian wrote:... I used the elastic band trick to get the bulge on the side.

I remember seeing a pic of one with the elastic band just above, or right the top of, the ribbon.

When I wrote my previous post mentioning the banned member, I just didn't remember about that specific regulation. I'm sorry for that.

The 'Streets Of Cairo' Hat Display Page
Happy to obey the rules too after I was reminded of them. I do struggle to see how the letter of the rule could be breached by the thread even existing? It's neither advertising, posting for or naming banned members. This thread is about showing off members gear, where ever it comes from. Isn't that pretty much central to what COW is about? If peter or some other luminary were to be banned for some reason would that really prevent us from posting pictures of wested jackets? I'm just trying to understand the rules properly here because however I read that rule it doesn't prohibit a thread like this one TOH

Re: The 'Streets Of Cairo' Hat Display Page
It seems pretty plainly stated right here, djd, quoting directly from the rule.We feel that in some cases, tensions still remain high and eventually lead to arguments and/or flame wars.
Some actions taken by certain banned members have been deemed reprehensible by the administration of this board,
which also prompted this action.
So in order to avoid anything being said that may lead to suspensions of existing members, or worse, a threat of legal action, we no longer allow mention of banned or suspended members.
This isn't the first 'vendor' discussion, new or previously existing, we've had to remove from this site based on this rule.
The fact this is even being discussed now just goes to prove the point. Do we now need to delete this thread for this reason?
Regards! Mark
