Hat luggage containers
I'm going overseas at the end of the month and need something to carry my Indy hat so that it doesn't get crushed. Any suggestions on where I can obtain one for a decent price?
Thanks

Re: Hat luggage containers
Check out hat carriers for western style hats. Shouldn't be too hard to come by in your neck of the woods.
Or, just wear your hat in transit.

Re: Hat luggage containers
I was a bit hesitant about it the first time, but just knock the bash out and roll that puppy up!! If it is a well made hat, it won't negatively effect it at all. My Penman survived day long travel rolled up and crammed in my suitcase. I just pulled it out, knocked my bashes back in, and if anything it looked more Indy than it did before I started the trip. As bink stated earlier today, it kills me how we, who look to Indy as a hero, baby our hats so much...

To quote him directly
I just came to a realization. There are far more people on these boards (an Indiana Jones board, no doubt!) who are afraid to simply wear their hats without worry than I've ever met out in the real world.

Re: Hat luggage containers
I remember when I got my first AB. Shortly thereafter, I took it on a flight with me. While getting to his seat next to me, a fellow passenger completely squished my hat! Guess what? It survived. I'll be on a different flight tomorrow. I wonder which hat will get squished this time?
That said, here's a quick link to one I found: http://www.villagehatshop.com/single_hat_can.html

Didn't mean to put you on the spot Bink! And no disrespect to Kyle either...I actually thought about putting a latch on my Penman hat box for transport.

Why would you need a latch?

I just meant that if I had to check it at the airport or something that I would latch it just to make SURE it stayed shut. Valuable cargo you know...

Re: Hat luggage containers
I usually fly around on work...
Every time i rest my hat on seat next to me (when is empty) comes a flight attendant who wants to grab it and put it in the baggage compartment... hehehe.
So, after some explanations they end up letting me stay with the hat. Some even asked me: isn't this the indiana jones hat?

Well, when you consider, in most cases, we're talking about $400+ hats, yes, falks are a bit more hesitant when it comes to the handling of our hats. Most of us can't afford to replace them.Hollowpond wrote:To quote him directlyI just came to a realization. I won't argue that in the least, but I still find it amusing how some who pay that much money in the first place for a quality hat which would take the abuse are afraid to wear them on a normal everyday basis.

I don't find it any different than seeing folks buy high end off road vehicles, and never so much as take them down a dirt road. Just cause they can doesn't mean they HAVE to.

Yeah, but they're compensating for something else.

Re: Hat luggage containers
I can understand wanting to take care of and baby an expensive hat. Heck, I remember when I thought $50 was a lot for a hat (though I was buying vintage at the time, back when you could find them cheaper). I have hats I wear specifically for dressier occasions. I want to them looking nice. Other hats are knock-around hats. Others fall in between. I'm not saying that one should instantly start stomping on and squishing a brand new AB. My point is that hats are meant to be worn. If you just wear them and handle them with basic care and respect, you should have nothing to worry about. You won't be caught in a frog strangler every day, so if you put it on your head and walk out the door, you shouldn't need to be overly concerned. Just wear it.
