You must live close. Thats what its like here. Rain and clouds for 3/4 of the year and then a dried out lawn for a month or two. By the by, it rained this morning. Not much but I had to turn on the wiper to get to the hat shop.

Don't need them. Between the pe-aging, the stabilizing, and water repeliant I use on all my hats, that and the fact I use the top shelf felt. There is no need. Besides it wouldn,t work on my hats. You need a stiff hat for those to work.

:rolling: yes it would. The elastic band at the opening would pull in the brim to make he hat almost into a ball.

He has to reach up higher to get to it :) Naw, top shelf refers to high quality. Apparently, here in America, we keep the good stuff up on the top shelf, out of reach of children or something. But yeah, he means he uses the good stuff :)

Isn't it a reference to liquor? Top shelf liquors are more expensive. You'd pay more for a Johnnie Blue than a Johnnie Red, for instance-- Blue is more expensive and kept on the top shelf.

I believe you hit the nail on the head. I wasn't sure if it was liquor, or any old thing. But I figured since it had become a metaphor, I was safe either way

My replacement Raiders hat finally arrived yesterday on my birthday. And what a birthday surprise it was! When I pulled it out of the box, it was beautifully perfect with every specification I had requested spot on, especially the turn. When I placed it on my head, it definitely felt as if it was made just for me with the fit being absolutely perfect. I was so ecstatic with, what is in my eyes, my perfect Raiders hat that I immediately emailed John to send him a personal letter of my gratitude. I cannot thank you enough John, you are a true master hatter! :TOH: :D :notworthy:

Guys, these days I received two new hats. And they are both Penman! You can imagine how one's feel after receiving in the same hour two jewels like these. Each of my new Penman deserve a complete and esaustive photo review, and now I'm leaving for holidays, so I haven't enought time for.. But I didn't resisted to post some rough shots now..!

edit:

Just a little update about my LC: after some weeks of wearing and working on the brim this is it, what do you think about the brim? it could be more bended or something else different?

Mr Steerpike - Is there a lid you don't suit? :)

Glad to see that customs finally released them :D . Just not right, holding a man's hats to randsom. :(

This one looks fantastic!! Did you opt for no brim curl, or are you in the process of training?

Congrats on the new lids and I can't wait to see the shots on your return.

I assume you'll be taking your new lid or lids?

John - Well done yet again!!

Thank you Ian for your words! Yes the custom released my hats but for a very high price!!! ](*,)
Anyway, yeah, I'm in the process for the brim curl, the hat just came off on the box.

And I'm deciding what hat bring with me, but you know, as this is the place where I'll go

Thanks for the nice comment Indiana Croft. As for that leather jacket and shirt, I have a complete Indy wardrobe. I just do not wear my hat in combination with any other piece of gear, besides the jacket and boots, to avoid listening to people humming the Indiana Jones tune as I walk by. ;) By the way, your new lid looks stunning! I too, hope to acquire a gray fedora to add to my collection someday and of course, it will be a Penman. :D ;)

Can't get much higher praise than that! :TOH: It most definitely has evolved into a Hollowpond hat. There are very few purchases I have made that I know will be with me until the bitter end...this hat is one of them! Thanks again John, I LOVE this hat.

Unless something has changed, I believe John will let you order your hat and then make you pay in full before he starts to make your hat. By Oct you will have a couple of months waiting out of the way.

Say, does anyone here have a "Marlo"? I'm trying to decide on my second hat order and am debating between Indy and non-Indy hats. The Marlo looks really nice to me but it's kind of hard to get a full feel for it without seeing someone wearing one. So anybody got any pictures of one being worn? Or do you have any on the Facebook page, John?
