On old Fedora refurbished by John Penman
This is an older fedora I own. John scrutinized it fairly close and we think it is a beaver felt. It was constructed pretty poorly with a pretty bad stitch job on the sweat, and the liner was glued in. The ribbon was faded and it was wider than I liked and I am pretty sure it was in dire need of a good cleaning and reblock. I knew from talking to John in the past that he would work on other hats for his customers. So I contacted him to see what he could do for me on this worn out looking fedora. For what I consider a steal of a price, John completely restored this hat with a new sweat with awesome stitching, a new black liner, and of course a new ribbon Penman style. He cleaned, reblocked and bashed this fedora until it looks and feels like a brand new hat. Here are a few before and after pics for those interested in getting there fedoras refurbed. John as always provided great service and exceptional craftsmanship.

Moderators - sorry about the double post. It gave me an error and said to try again so I did and it shows that it posted twice. If you would be good enough to delete one I would appreciate it.

Already taken care of. If you read the announcement in the Announcement section, you'll see that Dalexs asks that if you post and you get an error, do NOT repost. Your original post made it through despite the error message.

Wow, great looking refurb! I was just thinking of having the same thing done. Thanks for posting
Re: On old Fedora refurbished by John Penman
That´s quite a transformation. And it looks great! Do you know what it originally was?

I do know who made it. But since I have spoken ill of its original construction I will pm you who they are. I dont want to give bad press to any hat makers. I will say they are not affiliated with COW to my knowledge.

RC
The before picture it was about 2 years old. Maybe a little less. But it was my river hat. It took alot of rain soakings, sun scorchings and dunks in the river. So it looks older than it actually is.

I see. so it's 'not that old', but has 'had a long life'.
It's really looking great and will probably last you a lifetime.

It's not the years, it's the mileage.beaverlid wrote:RC

do I see some indy props in the back ground?
If this is the hat I think it is. I also had to pounce the hat. That made a difference in its appearance.

Oak,
This is that same hat you are thinking of. It took me a little while to post it. I forgot to mention that John did a fantastic pounce job on the hat as well. All things being said the hat looks nothing like it did when I sent it to him. I highly recommend him if you are looking to restore an old hat to look like new or looking to buy a new hat. I bought a grey beaver felt LC bashed fedora from him last year that is a beautiful piece of work. After showing that fedora to a friend of mine, who doesn't even wear hats I might add, he purchased one. I love the look of a beat up broken in old friend of a hat, but sometimes those ribbons get faded and stained to the point where we need um replaced. Or the felt just needs a good bath. John is one of the few that will take in a fedora from another vendor and restore it. If you want this service you still need to get on his waiting list unless he has changed that policy.
