Okay, well... the "dress like a hero" tag line might be a little over the top, but the Coyle's Downtowner is definitely the hat for achieving that over-the-top Raiders of the Lost Ark look!

A few screen-accuracy purists (is there anybody fitting that description on these boards?) might raise an eyebrow at the purple tint to the ribbon in these shots; for the record, the photos were taken in late afternoon "warm" lighting conditions, and the textured ribbon really picked up the red tones in the sunlight.

To bring this post back on track: there was a spectacularly pretty girl wearing spectacularly little clothing frolicking in the shore break -- down near that concrete drainage culvert visible in the top picture -- shortly before I set up to snap these shots. It's hard to imagine that a girl who could easily be a swimsuit model -- for all I know, she is a swimsuit model; she's the girlfriend of a professional big-wave tow-in surfer who lives in a two-million dollar beach house -- didn't come dashing across the sand begging to pose in these photos with the goofy guy dressed up in his little Indiana Jones costume.


I guess I'll have to join you guys at Wizard Con for that to happen.

I loved my Downtowner! But is it me or is your front pinch a little loose?

I've switched to loving my Uptowner, but did just order one of the last brown deluxe FED III's )

I noticed that the front pinch seems to have loosened up a bit. I've only worn this hat once, for about fifteen minutes, while snapping a few photos back when it first arrived in November '09. Since November... 6 months give or take... it's been stored in the original plastic in the original hat box. Apparently the "stiffness" and molded shape of the hat relaxes over time.

Just speaking my opinion here, Photoss... but I think that Downtowner looks fantastic on you!
And whether you're dressing in up or dressing it down, it seems to REALLY suit you!

Thanks Mitch! In similar fashion, I really love all the hats you yourself own.

I know for me personally, the Downtowner is everything I want in an Indy fedora, it's cheap (price-wise), sturdy, and dare I say fashionable.
I must say that at certain angles it is also a very 'aggressive' hat. For those with smaller noggins, this probably wouldn't be the best choice. the hat ribbon is kind of purplish too, under certain light. As stated by others, the stiffness does lighten up a tad with use, but it still is comparable to the DP.

I was thinkin about that ribbon on the Downtowner...What if you replaced it with some of LLS's ribbon? (No offence to Todd or the ribbon he sells of course. I was just thinking about what was being said about LLS's ribbon in another thread)

yeah i thought it looked good when i put the todd ribbon on my old dorfman , and i thought the other was a bit brown looking and this does look so much better . i had the ribbon put by the professionals at optimos of chicago

when i got the ribbon before, i had it replaced on my dorfman. and the ribbon looked so much better , and i figured it had to be better than the brownish looking one on the downtowner.

They aren't that tall anymore. We're steaming them shorter. Indyclone just likes it that way. If you look at it with a fresh pair of eyes, it really suits him.

Not that tall anymore? Awww, man! I was thinking of ordering a second one, because my other hats don't look tall enough in relation to the diameter (61/62). The Downtowner is... or was... a great Indy-style hat for larger size heads. Do you still have any "tall" 61 or 62 in stock?

Just watched that, Photoss...
Was either laughin' or smilin' all the way through!
You hang with a rough crowd but I LOVE 'em!
And great music cues, too... really gave it a nice "suspense meets comedy" touch.

Despite what surprised me as a bit of "switching of gears" with the ending, I thought that was really Well Done!
