John- just don't make his next one in Pecan! That assures you yet another order from Dave (like that's a big surprise!).

Well Bink's hat really does look pretty fantastic! I wouldn't mind one for myself! And I agree with Dave... I really should have a Pecan flavoured... I mean coloured... fedora!

Perhaps for my 5th or 6th Penman!

Thanks again, guys. It's a great compliment hearing that it suits me so well. That's how a hat should be for anybody. Even though I pretty much knew what I wanted, it couldn't have happened without all the conversation and hard work from John. This truly is a one-of-a-kind, especially since John doesn't have this ribbon! I sourced it myself. He wants to see if I can score more of it so he can make himself another just like it. But I kinda like having my very own fedora... :-

Well, in the wake of Binkermeister's latest (and completely luscious!) hat, this may seem a bit pedestrian, but I wanted you all to see a teaser of the beautiful Beaver Raiders Penman that John is about to send me.

I'm gonna go crazy all week waiting for this one. And I promise a whole mess of shots of me wearing it in full gear soon after it arrives.

It's funny how you mention that you always take your Penman, because I wore mine to the IJ Show as well (and actually mentioned in the Thread I mentioned that I was pretty sure mine wasn't the first Penman Hat to visit it)... and you're right, of course, a Bulldog Tough Hat is the BEST kinda hat to take with you on a vacation ('cuz you NEVER know what's gonna happen on one of THOSE!)

Until next time, we do agree that we're both holding Rain Cheques on getting together some OTHER time... RIGHT, my friend?

I'm in the area too and could always meet up with you guys. I was there earlier today for Star Wars Weekends. And Fox, I've brought my Penman to Disney a few times already. Gotta take some pics next time. And if you go to 50's Prime Time, you gotta have their pot roast, roast pork loin and their PBJ shakes =P~

Mitch,

I hope this post doesn't throw you over the edge ;). Here are a few pics of 2 hats John is putting in the mail this morning. The first is a CS reblock on John's new block. Crazy story on this one. I ordered the reblock in Nov 09 and John was about to do it when the block broke :o . Good things happen to those who wait because John wanted to update his CS block to be even more SA. The second hat is a Rabbit Raiders off of John's new block. Funny thing is, it was John's first hat off the new block that he actually made for himself. He offered it to me on Saturday when I had a second hand Penman fall through and he was confirming my address for the reblock. More pics to come when I receive them. Enjoy.

Matt

Both the new Raiders block and the new CS block both look fantastic. Really. I have been wowed. Daren, your hat really shows that new block shape off. The angle on your hat, Matt, kind of distorts it, but it really shows off the CS hat nicely. I really love the CS block. Great block and John has replicated this very well. Excellent work John!

Somebody get me my Superman cape! I've got a date with an airplane . . . IN MID-AIR!!!!!

Jack Henry

Wouldn't that be funny if I actually did fly up there with my Superman cape (or even that suit from the show "Greatest American Hero" starring William Katt) and then flew away from the plane wearing my Penman. I bet people would see me flying around and say, "What the heck is that guy doing? You can't wear a Beaver Penman Raiders with a cape!--How ridiculous!"

Yep, . . . that's just what they'll say . . . . That's just what they'll say . . . .

I don't like reading this thread. Lemme tell you why: I just flipped back a couple of pages and saw Bink's hat. I don't think I can properly express how impressed I am with it without wildly gesticulating and perhaps urinating in my pants. "Nice hat, Bink," will have to suffice for now. John Penman, your hats are AWESOME!!! I'm really looking forward to the next chance I have to order from you ( auto repairs and a road trip to New Orleans, then hopefully no obstacles after that... ).
Those of you who don't have a Penman, if you can believe it, Bink's review doesn't do John's hats justice. The Indy hat's on this thread are looking great too, everyone. Like Bink, I'm pretty well fixed on Indy hats ( how do you top AB? ), but Penman's hats do tempt me so, especially the Raiders.
My Penman has seen a good deal of action already and I look forward to more on my head and less of this...

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj29 ... 1552-1.jpg

...chick wouldn't gimme my hat :- .

Great hat Bink, nice hats, everyone, and fine work John Penman!

You are right, the AB cannot be topped, but it can be matched. I have both, ABs and Penmans, and let me tell you that John's Indy hats are every bit as awesome-filled as Steve's. The hat that has received the most abuse (love) is my Penman Raiders. That thing gets used like a cheap 8th street you know what (if you've ever been to Miami, you know what I'm talking about). The ABs have been worn a heckuva lot, sure, but the Penman is the one I wear when I know I will be beating my hat up. Its the one that gets worn while camping in the Everglades, kayaking along the Florida Keys, and the one that gets gallons of sweat and water poured on/in it when I go to Disney World or Universal Studios. It really is my real world Indy hat, good ol' reliable. I even named her...Penny. Penny and I have grown real close the past two years since I got her. She is my favorite hat.

I hold Steve's hats in the highest regard. I'm saving up for another making that one AB #4. But I gotta tell ya, John's Indy hats are just as great as Steve's.

Just for fun, a coupla pictures from Christmastime last year while I was wearing my Penman. You can't see the hat especially well, but it serves to illustrate this is my "go anywhere, do anything hat". These pics were shot on the patio bar of a place on St Mary's St. while having an impromptu jam:

Very nice! Good to see that 2'' hatband grade ribbon that John has been telling me about. Looks great on you, Caber. Wear it in good health.

Yeah, I have one on order, a sahara colored one with a rust ribbon, but I'm saving up for number four. It'll probably have to be rabbit as funds are kinda tight these days, but I want another one from Steve before he retires. John will be around for a long time to take my money. I have to get as many ABs as I possibly can now. That said, it hasn't stopped me from getting any Penmans as I still have one on order!

It would be cool to have a light weight vintage Borsa type hat for summer, no? Something that would be light weight but also a choice of vintage ribbon, for a more retro look.
