Anyone have,or remember The Raiders Jacket sold on TV?
While I await my hat from "Across The Pond", I continue to research the other items to start building my Indy Archives. As the jacket is my next purchase (my Marcus Brody Museum Budget is limited to one for now), I recall a commercial for an Indiana Jones Jacket sold in The Early '90's on TV. Does anyone else remember the details of this? Also has anyone found a Sure Fire method for Aging/Distressing jackets. I have it down to Two Brands, that are within the budget...

Re: Anyone have,or remember The Raiders Jacket sold on TV?
I don't recall one advertised on tv, but the timing might suggest it was the same one that Lucasfilm Fanclub was offering. Did it look like this???
If so, it's a cowhide jacket, most likely made by Cooper. The closest on the market today are U.S. Wings.
As for distressing, the best way is to just wear it. Natural distressing is the best. But there many who will disagree with me. If you simply must, start going through the Care & Distressing section. TONS of advice and tips.

Re: Anyone have,or remember The Raiders Jacket sold on TV?
Just found the commercial on "You Tube", under "Indiana Jones Jacket Commercial 1991", was manufactured by a "Willabee and Ward". Yeah, already did a search, they're still around, but their jacket isn't. Pricing was kinda steep back then, now I remember why I didn't get one (wouldn't fit now any way!)...

Cool. It looks a little different from my old one, but same tag. So it might have been the next iteration. Most likely it was sold through several vendors, including W&W.

I know better now, but if I had seen that commercial in 91 I would have had a fit!

I still want one. Those jackets with the old Indiana Jones logo are pretty hard to find.

I have one of those with the Indiana Jones label, but it's in a nice crinkly lambskin. Looks alot like what TN offers on his Raiders jackets.

I'd never even seen that ad before - and all that time I spent in a black Moores bomber jacket in the early 90's!

How'd you come to that conclusion?IndyBlues wrote:Tony Nowak made the Fan Club jackets???RCSignals wrote: there's a reason for that Mike.
Shrunken lamb. Was used a great deal in that era of those jackets, and used by Cooper. Avirex used it on their special edition A-2s, and still does as 'Cockpit'
Anyway some of those jackets like you have were made of shrunken lamb, and it is likely yours is.

Willabee and Ward also had magazine print ads for the jacket. There was one posted here on COW, but I can't locate it.

The Willabee and Ward jacket was a Cooper. I ordered my old one from W&W and it had the Cooper hang tag and the plane on the neck label.
Here's an ad for a Cooper A2 sold by W&W. I don't recall any of the IJ order forms mentioning it, but like I said, the hang tag said Cooper.

I remember clearly that tag also being in jackets sold at JCPenny during that timeperiod too. I even talked one of the clerks to allow me to take a tag off one of the jackets for my collection. She thought I was nuts, but did it anyway.
It's buried with the rest of the stuff out in the garage, though.
That was in the early 90's.

That is hilarious and also amazing. I don't think anyone could get a clerk to do that today. Nicely done sir!

Re: Anyone have,or remember The Raiders Jacket sold on TV?
_....I don't know if I would dismiss it as entirely baseless...I mean, to be as completely convinced as some folks are can't be chalked up to mass hysteria and delusional hypnosis on that wide a scale....now, baseless in any kind of sense of REALITY? Yeah.....but baseless when it comes to "movie magic" and film manipulations...well...I think there's the rub, eh?Neil's reconfirmed - without any doubt on his part - that he used calf... Period... As far as I'm concerned - case closed...
So, while it has those visual charactaristics similar to striated lambskin that was available in the marketplace at the time, the leather that was used on the hero jacket in Raiders was in fact irregular calfskin. Speculation to the contrary is based on - well it is baseless...
Second....I have in my possession RIGHT NOW (and I'm tryin' to get the best shots of it I can) one of the Wings Hero "naked cowhide" jackets....not QUITE the same thing as calfskin, but...close in qualities and properties, right? At any rate...I kid you not, there is a place on the top chest panel...the graining and patterning actually is mimicking the "striations" that can be seen in the Raven Bar scene jacket. And knowing that this grain is going to pop even more with a little wear...
All I can say is that I can absolutely SEE how calfskin would be able to appear, ON SCREEN, in the right lighting, angles, etc....as the "striated lambskin."
Oh...and I am as certain as you are that Neil is dead-on about his recollections. No disputes there.
So-be on the lookout for the pics....up soon!
Regards!

Yep, its nice to have the Dawg back to keep us inline. I am glad to hear what Neil said. I just watched Raiders again and I still see calf after all these years.I do not want to start a war, its just what I see. Now I will see it from Sarge(and Neil) this fall! Yeah!
Just a thought, the reason I always thought it to be calf is because of the scrapes someone did to it to distress it. Lamb does not do it as well(more gummy), but calf has a unique way of scraping.Just my two pesos!Cheers

Well said _ !I guess only a few fully understand that Neil Cooper and I have not only worked together day in and day out as business partners since 1985 but have spent a lot of years talking about the Raiders Jacket and George Lucas! with that said look at how many Indy Jackets we have made and sold worldwide over the years.... You, Michaelson and IndyDawg have known for years about Neil and I ... " Facts are facts"._ wrote:You're not starting a war - that's my job! (grin) Seriously, the first time I dug into this way back when I was told it was an oil-pulled naked cow. Every word but "cow" was greek to me. Then I "learned" everything that was readily offered - all the Wested stuff. Then bit by bit it fell apart and I've ended up back where I started... Facts are facts, as Sarge likes to say - but the weirdness around the misinformation. The raw emotion. It's - well - weird...Gringo wrote:Yep, its nice to have the Dawg back to keep us inline. Hey _, It was once said the greatest Generals were not very popular(like you care). But my favorite line from my dad was"Never apoligize for being right". After all this time, its time to relish. We(the real ones) know what you have done. It was thankless then, but maybe not anymore. Cheers Mate.

Somehow, I doubt that _ feels the "need" for thanks in order to feel appreciated.....but, Gringo-you are more right on this one than you know!
A lot of times...it's far more a matter of being "right" or being "happy."
In _'s case...I think it's ALWAYS better to be "right!"
And, like him, I have always tried to rectify and admit when I've been wrong...and BOY, have I been wrong before!
But sometimes....what's right is just what's right and there's just NO other way to spin it.
Nicely said, sir!

Nice tag! My Cooper/Disney jacket from 1992/1993 had that exact tag. I carried it around in the jacket pocket until it perished in a wet, drunken escapade. I still have a t-shirt with the same art. Memories!

No-you're right...
It reminds me of a line of dialogue from Braveheart....
"You admire him because he's uncompromising." Or...something like that....
And even though, as Robert Bruce's father says following that, "It's exactly the ability to compromise" which enables someone to "get along" in diverse situations....there are always those who know what's right and will NOT compromise.
I would certainly like to know that someone, at some point, one day would rather call ME uncompromising....it certainly feels more noble, doesn't it?!
Dark Knight, he may be, Gringo....
