Do you find "excuses" to wear your jacket?
For example, I've been setting the thermostat lower at home so I can wear my jacket in the house.
Anyone else do anything like that?

I wear them when it's really too hot to wear a jacket. But I intend to get my money out of them!

Ditto. I'm wearing mine right now, and Spring is definitely showing it's true colors as we speak...I have a new custom jacket from Wested on the way, and I'll be doggonned if I'm not gonna give that at least two or three weeks of good solid wear. The thought of lowering the thermostat has crossed my mind more than once!

Re: Do you find "excuses" to wear your jacket?
Not so much now as when I first got my jackets. I have a Wested custom and a Todd's standard both approaching two years old. I still wear the Todd's in the house from time to time because it really doesn't want to "break in."
I do remember lowering the thermostat on the a/c for Halloween two years ago. I stayed home to pass out candy, in full gear, and was sweating bullets. My wife got home with our son from trick or treating and wasn't happy. I believe she said it was colder in the house than it was outside using some colorfull language outside of our son's presence of course. I think I had it down to 64 F in the house.

I went with the kids trick or treating in 2008, in full gear. After a few blocks in the high 60s weather I wished I had gone as Cairo Indy without the jacket.

I wouldn't mind doing that, but the other living beings in the house would be most displeased. I just have to make do with taking advantage of any day that's not too warm or too cold.

After I put my son to bed, I will put on my Fed and Happy cow Raiders Nowak and smoke a cigar on the patio. It's one of my favorite things to do.

I love wearing my Wested custom whenever I can. The question for me is when to pull out the heavier one I got at Disneyland several years ago.

Re: Do you find "excuses" to wear your jacket?
I was thinking who needs an excuse? I've been wearing my Expo since it arrived a few weeks ago. I guess I'm at the age where I don't care why people wonder why I'm wearing a leather jacket inside, or when it's warm enough not to need a jacket. Yes, I've even fell asleep wearing it.
I remember wearing my A-2 that much when I first got it. I wore that jacket 14 hours a day. I was a young pilot and I felt it was my good luck charm. That jacket has 1,000s of flight hours and tons of miles and character. 22 years later, it looks even better.
I say wear the living daylights out of them. No excuses needed!

Yep, nothing more relaxing than sitting back on the patio in my Wested and my AB Henry, smoking a long cigar and sipping on a glass of bourbon.hoose55 wrote:After I put my son to bed, I will put on my Fed and Happy cow Raiders Nowak and smoke a cigar on the patio. When I was 13 or 14 years old, I spent an entire summer (regardless of the heat) wearing a Schott A-2 bomber jacket, thinking I looked just like Indy.

Did this with "The Perfecto" Motorcycle Jacket back in the day, should of saved it, as "Mutt" would of loved it! Now to start searching for The Indy one, you'll see my name on a few of these blogs, as I research this...

Heheh.
I've tried wearing my jacket after the winter season, but I've got a nowak cowhide and in Arkansas it gets too danged hot to do that. But, any excuse I can find, I'll wear it.
Case in point (and a reason I got in trouble with my fiance one night): My fiance and I were going to this very nice restaurant, and we were both dressed very nice, but it was unseasonably cold and she was wearing a lightweight dress. So I offered her my dinner jacket and I got my indy jacket from the trunk. She got upset because she was still cold and I wouldn't let her have the heavy jacket. Makes me seem like a bad boyfriend. The dinner was good though.

I would have given her my Indy jacket. I find a woman in a bomber jacket to be very appealing.

Re: Do you find "excuses" to wear your jacket?
In all the years I've been married, I've only had that happen once. My wife and I were out visiting some antique stores, and the weather did a strange turn and the temperature must have dropped 20 degrees or more with a REALLY cold wind.
I had my Wested cloth Indy jacket on, but a vest underneath. She only had a light sweater on, and no extra jacket.
I offered her my Indy jacket to wear, which surprisingly she took (she rarely gets chilled like that), and at the end of the day I thought I'd NEVER get it back!
I bought her her own cloth Indy jacket from Wested that year.
Regards! Michaelson

I guess I can safely post this here, as she doesn't read these forums. I've been saving and pinching the pennies to get her a custom jacket for her birthday next year. She's wanted one since she saw mine.

Re: Do you find "excuses" to wear your jacket?
Getting back on the original discussion of this thread, I do have a major "excuse" for wearing my jacket. I usually carry a pistol, which in my state must be kept concealed most of the time. My jacket provides me with any easy way of concealing the gun. I often carry my gun in a shoulder rig under the jacket.
If I want to carry my gun in a belt holster, I need a different jacket. My Wested is far too short for that. The gun barrel would stick out from under the bottom of the jacket.

Re: Do you find "excuses" to wear your jacket?
Now that summer is upon us, I won't be able to wear the jacket as much - but since it is a Todd's, the lightweight nature of the leather still makes it a comortable wear at night - and of course, walking around just for the heck of it. It's a cool looking jacket in its own right and I love to wear it as much as possible - but sometimes, the colors of whatever else I am wearing my have me choosing one of my other jackets...

I don't really need an excuse, UK weather ***** all year round!
carrying a pistol round seems a crazy prospect to an Englishman, would be handy at times though
