vid of me 'cracking' my new whip (with new jacket, too!)
I posted this in the photos thread, but perhaps itll work better here in a new thread, because this is a video of me cracking my new nylon 8' dangerman whip in the backyard. Actually, sometimes it cracks and sometimes it doesnt because Im a newbie. I have to watch some vids of you experienced guys and get some pointers and practice.

Hi Scotty,
The best advice I can give you is to watch Adam Winrich's videos on youtube.
They really helped me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNKPIOelTgA
How 'bout a pic of your new toy?
Josh said yours came out real nice (and I'm next on the list )

I was under the impression that a nylon whip could be used in damp grass to no ill effect.
Anyway, you teased us, so... what jacket is that?

Yes it can, but i dont like standing in the rain, which its been doing.Chewbacca Jones wrote:I was under the impression that a nylon whip could be used in damp grass to no ill effect.

The jacket is from an undisclosed manufacturer (no tags). I got it on ebay from a first-time seller. It was my size, is cowhide, which I prefer, nylon liner (with no label) looked to be in good condition, and was the right price - a combination I have not been able to find up to now. Its a good quality, medium-to-heavy weight jacket.
The seller did not disclose some minor damage details, but overall, I really like the jacket and wear it, well, everyday, just like my Fed IV. I'll have my gf snap some pics soon and post 'em.

It looks like that fence behind you (in the video) had a narrow escape.
You're doing good for a newbie . Nice and loud! Keep it up. The hat and the jacket look good too.
Here are some pictures I took of it before I sent it off. I had to redo the big Turk's head knot after these photos were taken.
That twisted fall was replaced with the new type.

You're forcing the whip. Just snap your wrist and let the whip's natural uncoiling do the rest. Keep your back foot down too.

Also, I would advise against doing your "underhand" crack as you call it, because you are eventually going to bring it back too much and it's gonna hit you in the face (remember the opening of Last Crusade?) What you CAN do is start with the underhand and then bring it up top into the cattleman's crack.

Underhand crack is a great crack, the forward through done upside down. Beware of the towel snap though and the resulting returning motion. Lotso good stuff out there to learn from. Have fun, be safe!

Very narrow. In fact, its bent where that piece of trunk is lying on it. I should be able to straighten it up when I get the tree out of there.
Thanks, Josh. Its fun to do. and my gf was impressed, too, which is always a plus. You're doing good for a newbie . Nice and loud! Keep it up. The hat and the jacket look good too.
Thanks for that tip. I'll try to go easier on it and see what happens. It is kind of stiff, though, but what do I know? Im gonna work on the different cracks one at a time for a while. I like the overhead one that Winrich does where it twirls all around his head and then cracks.knibs7 wrote:You're forcing the whip. Yeah, I was also told that the jacket was 'tied to a person who provided costume samples for the last movie.' I was offered details but never got any. Kinda shady, and not a lot of accuracy as to the jacket's condition by omission, but its a nice jacket regardless. Probably not terribly screen accurate (its 'screen-reminiscent,' as I like to call it), but it fits me the way I wear jackets, I like the material, and its well made, although it had been repaired, and one pocket flap doesnt line up perfectly with the pocket.kwad7 wrote: OOhhhh, mystery jacket.
