Thank you John Penman! My Henry's perfect!!!!

Post by TenuredProfessor »

I know this should go under the 'Henry' post'em pages, but this post is mostly about my brief time at John Penman's shop and his kindness. I drove down from Seattle this morning with the intention of purchasing a brown Raiders Henry. I've not hat the best luck with sizing and satisfaction with Indy hats, as many of us can attest to. I needed to try one of these babies on, to make sure I had the perfect fit. What I got exceeded my expectaions in the hat. John showed me around his operation, kindly bashed my hat, and even got my jacket straps to face backwards like I've always wanted! So here's a few pics...I literally sped home so I could catch some daylight to snap these pics in. And once again, thank you so much John!!
P.S. John, you were right...'The Horse Brass' pub was just what I was looking for...even got a couple compliments on my new hat in there!!

I've still got some tinkering to do with this hat, and all the reviews I've read regarding the softness are true!! I won't be taking this off anytime soon!

Thanks again, John...my friend and I both had 2 scotch eggs and two 'Old Rasputin's'...Hadn't had that brew in a while. That pub was perfect!! Once I get a little mileage on my Henry, I plan on ordering one of your pure rabbit Indy hats. The bartender noticed your literature I had sitting out, and was very interested in your hats. I gave him your pamphlet, so you just may have a new customer. Thank you again!! I'll see you when I pick up my rabbit hat! Maybe you can bring it to me at the Horse Brass? ;)

Anyone visiting the Portland area looking for a genuine Northwest beer experience in an authentic British pub setting can do no better than by going by the Horse Brass. Also, anyone visiting the Horse Brass has an outstanding invitation to let me buy them a round, seeing as I live next door :P

(offer not valid for Hillsboro residents. Void where prohibited.)

Oh, and I hear this John fellow makes good hats or something.

Brian..
Upon entering the HB yesterday and feeling right at home, before ordering for a pint, I asked if they sold shirts. They only had xxxls and smalls! Do'h! #-o Great place! Saw one guy wearing what could have been a DP....hopefully the bartender passed John's pamphlet on to him! When I come down to pick up my rabbit raiders, I'll hopefully get a shirt in my size and take you up on that offer :D

Shall we start a 'Henry Lovers Club'?
Count me in - haven't gone a day without wearing it since it came in the mail.

Tell me if this is irrational, okay guys?

I got this hat yesterday, wake up early for work, leave the Henry at home, but ended up thinking about the bleepin' hat all day! I was lookin' at screen grabs at work, tryin' to decide how I wanted to bash ...aaagghhh! But now I'm home. I feel better 8)

Naw...that's just gear driven OCD...GDOCD I think it's called...just be careful it doesn't get so out of control you end up wrecking gear because of the endless tweaking for perfection (i'm guilty of this). I hear there's medication about to come on the market...

Any home or professional brewers in this club? I owned a homebrew store for 7 years.
Here's mine and my brew buddy's setup. I just built a shop so we'll be moving things in soon.

Oh yeeah! Been home brewing for about 8 years. Working on building a shop myself and really want to upgrade to a new system. Sorry bout the OT  Us homebrewers can't help ourselves. Dig your system too Lantzn! I'm trying to decide whether to stick with gravity fed or add pumps. :-k Oh and Henry's are awesome! the more pics I see the more I'm considering picking up a grey.
