A wise man once said, "There is nothing new under the sun" (Solomon). Everything "new" is derivative of what came before.

I can't tell you how many old movies I have seen with guys in leather jackets and fedoras. It would be fun to put together a collection of all the movie characters we can find wearing that outfit. I can start off with the dad in "Old Yeller" (it was a dog, not a homeless guy on a park bench).

Just goes to show that Deb was "Totally Devoted" to the jacket. ;)

…coulda been worse…coulda modeled it after the Pink Ladies.

_,

I can tell this is going to take you a while to deal with. Back to therapy! You don't want to start obsessing on the possibility of "Raiders of the Lost Ark - The Musical"! Indy doing those 60's style dance moves - his leather jacket flapping around...

BTW, I actually sold some Gladiator suits to a group that was trying to stage "Gladiator - The Musical" in New York. No kidding.

And I wouldn't bet against that Second Coming thing.

Re-told stories are always great, but it's those dang paper trails that get you in the end! #-o

Once again it proves that sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction! :-k

_ wrote:Sure... But I have to say that seeing that she actually bought this jacket... From "Grease" - second only to "Dirty Dancing" as the quintessential 'chick-flick' I had to seriously fight my gag reflex. I'm eating crow for having corrected somebody that Mutt's jacket was NOT based on 'Danny". Somebody in the house even replaced my "Raider's March" ringtone with Olivia Neutron-Bomb singing "Ya better wake up!"

This may be the sign of the second coming - I see a pale rider outside my door... :Dietrich:

Congratulations on your present btw. Thanks for the info.

I went to the real "Rydel High" (actually Venice High where the movie was filmed). I never brag about it though (man was that a fruity movie). The setting for that other schlock of a film is actually awesome. The catskill mountains in New York was home to amazing bands in the 50's and 60's. What do they make? An amazingly bad movie is the answer. The period rock soundtrack was ok, but the latin stuff was amazingly bad and incorrect.

ps- the rest of it stank too. :Plymouth: :-

I have to admit when I was 8 I liked Grease, now it's ok but I'll always love Oliva in that blank pants outfit at the end. :D

Thanks for this new info, _! You can see that jacket morphing into the Indy jacket with the right A2 influences.

I have to give away a guilty secret that Grease is the ONLY musical that I can stomach. I'm sure it has nothing to do with having a huge crush on Olivia back in the day.

There is no relationship between the pattern of the James Dean jacket and the Raiders jacket.

the Raiders jacket gets it's short body from an A-2

There must be a Golden Pan award for something like that?
Yes, indeed, _, you're right.

My dear Puppetboy, you are hereby the first recipient of the Golden Pan Award for outdoing me with a hilarious Photoshop image done in appropriately poor taste.

Besides, I'm convinced Deb was also influenced by the Pan Jacket.

Congrats on your award! :H:

Costume contests must be tough. I didn't even place at the PMC Halloween party with my mostly Todd's gear Raiders Costume...

although I did have some drunk girl trying to convince me to help her live out her HF fantasies...but hey, that's Pine Mountain

Oops! _, you posted just before I did. It reads like I'm ignoring your story.

I'm glad that you put that out there so people can understand your background. You're contribution to getting to the facts on much of the Indiana Jones history is underappreciated, IMO.

Speaking for myself, _ I always gotten a kick out of much of what you'd written long before I began to gather that you had a lot of clout behind your words...
Since then, I've always been really impressed by your sincere - and always entertaining - efforts to make us feel included in (and give us closer look at) some of the behind the scenes "goings-on" in the very real and surprisingly (to some) down to earth world of movie making.
Cheers,

The Golden Pan Award reminds me of that dream where I'm at work and realize that I'm not wearing pants.

Very insightful, _ about Cruise etc......I knew from your previous posts on other threads there was no love lost there........nice to see how it all started.......somehow it just confirms what I thought he'd be like, ie his ' performance', jumping on Oprah's couch....he just doesn't seem like he's interested in anything except 'Tom's Career '......... ;)

Thanks for the information, _.
What I like the most about the story is what seems to have been Spielberg's reaction. I understand from what I read that the guy didn't waste his time trying to justify Tome Cruise's behaveour: he just talked for a while and then lent a hand. Nice chap.
