Sources for safari shirts?

Post by Indiana Jake »

I am looking for some web sites/retailers of close-enough safari shirts for everyday non-costume adventure wear. If you have any favorite shirts you like to wear that look great with your leather jacket, please share. You know, something Indy would have worn had there not been a costume designer around. A khaki shirt for a regular guy who hates button down collars.

My personal favorite close enough shirt is the Cabelas.
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... ISO-8859-1

They have a short sleeve version, too.

L Bean has something, as well, that's a little lighter weight. But I prefer the Cabelas

Duluth Trading Co. has some great options Jake.

So does Orvis, but they are noticeably more expensive.

You may also find something at Sportsman's Guide, and believe it or not, Old Navy has a nice couple of adventure shirts, too.

Filson is good, but they're so expensive!

With that said, I guess I should be quiet because we buy some pretty expensive gear to get the right Indy look...

Anyway, I like the Cabelas Safari shirt myself. It's a great close-enough and it's cheap.

You can also try US WINGS:

http://www.uswings.com/khakis.asp

Their safari shirt is very close to a 1940's military copy.

One thing, if you live in a hot climate, Columbia's collection of nylon safari shirts cannot be beat. (Columbia.com).

Right now Eddie Bauer is selling a very nice close enough shirt in three colors, blue, green, and tan for about $45.00. I just bought two.

Talking about the canvas ones? Look a bit heavy for my tastes, but for the canvas-loving crowd, they look good at a fair price.

Ghosthost,

When you say a WPG shirt, are you referring to their Indy shirt ? Or some other non-Indy close-enough generic adventure shirt that they sell. See 1st post at top of thread.

Bought this one recently, and highly recommend it:

http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/clot ... product_36#

It is a taupe color, and if you order, I would also recommend ordering a size down from what you normally wear. I ordered a L but had to get a M. If you added epaulets and made it light khaki, it might give the Indy shirt a run for its money.

It's a pity the smallest size available in Tall is an XL, especially as I'm hearing that they run large.

Ah, well. I wonder if they're on sale because they are being discontinued, of if we can expect to see the full range of sizes available at some point in the future.

Here is the Bean shirt: http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... SR&feat=sr

I was just wearing it in Wyoming with jeans and a Wested LC. Fit right in.

I know it is an Indy shirt and not a "everyday style" but the Todd's shirt is great to wear too.

I have the Duluth Trading Co. shirt in a size large and that's what I normally wear. Check their size chart. I'm a 42 chest and I would not want to squeeze into a medium sized shirt. It's a nice light-weight shirt that converts from long to short sleeve, but it only comes in Military Brown.

You mean you can wear a leather jacket in August? Yikes! it's 103 in Phoenix right now. A leather jacket in the furthest from my mind. I wish I had an August were I could wear a leather jacket!

I saw something similar to the Target find at my local Target, they had a light tan, black, and green. I'm not sure they still have 'em, I wish I had bought one.

Just as I feared, Target didn't have either shirt I had in mind. I'm looking online as I type this and found the first shirt mentioned.

I was hoping they still carried the shirt I saw before. :(

Here's a fairly inexpensive short sleeved option I found at Old Navy. The shirt's currently on sale and comes in several colors.

Here's one from Express clothing has a military style shirt in many different colours. They are pretty nice, I've seen them in person. Not too bad at $60 US basically.

I ordered one of these a few hours ago, with my Gap Rewards, it only cost $10.

Not quite safari but still pretty cool looking. [I chose the olive green.]

Sorry guys I was away... here is a link on that Target shirt.
It is made by Converse. The local store that I saw it at only had small.
I seemed to be made out of a cotton blend.
They list it as a shirt jacket but it was kinda thin for a jacket but it is long for all you tall people.
Just got to get rid of that olive color.

I was looking through this thread yesterday an noticed the shirt at Target.
After work I went over to the Mens department (I work at Target) and found the shirt in 5 colors and as a bonus it's on sale for $20.
Colors: Dark Blue. Black, Khaki, Burgundy and Grey.

Nice light weight 100% cotton.

Should be on sale till Saturday.
New sales set on Sunday.

The original post on the shirt I believe was posted in September so they have had them for a while.
I usually don't get over to that part of the store since I work in the warehouse at the opposite end of the store.

I just picked 2 of these up at Target on sale for $20. It's NOT the jacket shirt posted above and doesn't have the bands sewn down the front, only on the pockets. No shoulder straps either. My tag calls the color khaki but it's a little on the mustard side to me. The way it's made looks somewhat distressed already which is kind of nice.
