Sizing help needed for childs hat.

Post by WalkingEye »

I'm making a couple of Indy fedoras for my friends young sons. As the hats will be a suprise gift and not having any children of my own, i can't determine their head sizes. One son is a year old and the other is three. can anyone help me out with a rough estimate of what the average head sizes would be for a 1 year old and a 3 year old? I'm aware that the little guys will outgrow the hats in a heart beat but their mom will get a huge kick out of this. any help will be hugely appreciated! i want to have these ready by christmas.

I don't think that somebody could tell you :-k As in adults, children have hugely varying head sizes and shapes, so the only way of telling would be measuring. A quick note on measuring the one year old: within the first 2 years of our lives our head grows at an alarming rate (as does the rest, we will never grow as fast ever again in our lives), so measure as late as possible to make sure he doesn't outgrow it before it's finished. Yes, with kids a lot can change in a few weeks

i appreciate the reply but there is no way i can measure their heads. they live about 800 miles away. this is just as much if not more so a gift for their mom and dad so i don't want to ask them to measure and ruin the surprise. i'm just looking for a very rough estimate. i'd rather make a hat and have the size be in the general ball park.

just took a stab in the dark to see if anyone around here has a kid or two that they could measure... :P
