Travel Bag?

Just wondering if anyone has a favorite (Indy like) travel bag, but maybe a bit larger?
I'm going on a big trip soon, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, I'm looking for a shoulder bag. It does need to be a bit bigger than a gas mask bag.
I know there are all sorts of army surplus shoulder bags out there, just wondering if anyone has any recommendations?

My personal opinion is that I love the Indy look, but when I travel my luggage is more traditional. I do have a large leather bag (looks like an overgrown gym bag) that I've used a few times for real short trips.

I've had a Filson rucksack since 1998, and I swear by it. Filson makes the most handsome and durable Indy-style bags that you could ever ask for. Yeah, the price tag is a bit ouchy, but it's a one-time purchase, believe me. I also bought their large travel bag and matching travel kit. It's the only luggage that a savvy adventurer needs, outside of his trusty Mk-VII.

P.S.- If you want a Hollywood connection, the Filson rucksack is the bag that Meg Ryan uses in City of Angels.

I gotta echo Filson's quality as well. I have had two of their luggage pieces for years and they have held up well while getting a well travelled patina to the outsides. I just ordered the Filson rucksack and look forward to adding it to my collection.

Indiana G and Knibs 7, I just can't see Indy getting using something like that. I picture him getting on the airplane in ROTLA, wearing a suit and tie and perhaps a nice leather bag for luggage, but not some sort of backpack, or old army bag. At least that's what I imagine. Who knows?

I remember there was a thread regarding this subject a while ago. I ended up getting a Saddleback Leather Company leather briefcase because of it. A bit pricey but they make great stuff!!!

Indy tended to use gladstone type bags for travel but they aren't shoulder bags.

Its a great bag if you dont want to spend a ton. I did use a bit of starch on it to stiffen it a bit...but thats it. Now your bag is awesome. I did a search a while ago for that Legend bag and had no luck...but now thanks to you....I know where to get one.

It's a little bigger and the canvas is the best I have seen.
Saw a guy come into my work place with it today and just ordered one myself.
It's from the Tate Gallery in London. A great looking bag!!!

I toured SE Asia last year for two months carrying my MKVII and my National Geographic Earth Explorer Series Camera bag.
It's not a dedicated camera bag, however, and has many other uses. Zipper closed water resistant interior, gear rings, Alice clip like add on spots, and a flip up or down hard bottom piece. It also has a removable padded camera pocket and a padded laptop pocket at the back of the bag. There are so many compartments and pockets you will never need to worry. The bag is canvas so it is very light but durable.

I use this bag when I need more than a MK VII and less than a regular suitcase because it is light and versatile.

I don't actually like this bag really, but they're marketing it as an Indiana Jones -style bag without actually saying the *Jones part. For some reason, I don't think I'd be caught walking around with this with my whip tied around it like in the picture.

The M-1936 has more capacity (I'd say twice as much) than the MKVII bag.
It's what I use most often since it allows lots of EDC plus space to spare for any daily activities or shopping.

Speaking of travel bags, not necessarily field bags, Schlesinger/Korchmar makes a really good leather bag in a classic, vintage style.

Here are a couple of pictures of my Gladstone travel bag. I got it in an antique store. It’s very heavy cowhide with all brass hardware and leather lined.
The dimensions are 22” length x 9’ wide x 10” high.
It appears to have been made in the 40’s or 50’s.

Not a bad bag for $20.00!

I have been fortunate in being able to collect a few Saddleback pieces, and I can't praise them enough. My briefcase in particular has withstood a good amount of abuse over the years, and just gets better-looking. Got a duffle bag about 6 months back, and I'm having trouble getting it to even look slightly used.

for serious travel I can't beat my 60 year old Norwegian rucksack. It's all canvas, leather and steel - easy to repair anywhere and very hardwearing. It carried supplies and radios to the Norwegian resistance forest hideouts in WW II.
