Inside the Alden factory!
Here is something cool that was sent to me today by my Father who knows all too well of my Indy fandom. Pretty interesting!

So they actually start life this colour?
Re: Inside the Alden factory!
Awesome video! Thank you SO much for sharing that with everyone! I've loved my 405's since the day I first put them on, back in November 1998. Seeing the genesis of an Alden shoe, made by proud, hard-working Americans makes me even more honored to wear them. Here's raising a glass to a lifetime of adventure in our Indy boots! May they take us far and wide, in comfort and style!

Different shoe model...Different leather...Different color...That picture is not the 405 boots that we are all acustomed too seeing...In point of fact I believe that those are the "Roy" Boots that Context Clothing has coming out. It's the same leather ( Chromexcel ) that will be used on the 403 Indy Boots that come out early next year.Satipo wrote:So they actually start life this colour?
Here is the link to the "Roy" Boots over at Context...

Re: Inside the Alden factory!
wow. thanx for sharing.
I loved every second of it. I love handcrafted items. with this video you can really tell they are THE boot and the boot Indy would use for adventures.
I loved the story about Ford owning them before Indiana Jones.

Awesome!!!!!
Re: Inside the Alden factory!
I enjoyed seeing what I paid for. I bought the Alden 405. What is this posted earlier about a 403? Is it going to have a better color?
Re: Inside the Alden factory!
never mind my last post. I found in a previous thread the answer to my question. The color is a better color then the current Alden 405. If I had not just bought a boot that I wanted to be the last boot I bought for a very long time I would get a pair of these. They look good.

Re: Inside the Alden factory!
That was cool, hey can anybody tell me what Steel Shanks are used for??....support? what? Thanks!
Re: Inside the Alden factory!
I think they are used to annoy people working security at the airport.
All jokes aside I am guessing they are for support like you said. All of my military boots had steel shanks for all of the humps we did. I am sure it saved my feet from going flat footed or getting collapsed arches.

Yep, they're for support.
Keep in mind, Alden 405 are first and foremost orthopedic shoes, so the design of the shank and the heel is there for a reason.
Regards! Michaelson

Re: Inside the Alden factory!
Thanks for posting this vid buddy.
I have'nt been on the threads much recently, but when I saw this I had to have a look.
I'm sitting here with my 405's on ....full of pride, getting this great insight into the Alden factory.
Luckily, we do still have a few great footwear companies here in the UK, particularly in the Northampton area, Loake etc, but it definitely is one of those highly skilled industries that must compete very hard in modern times.
I strongly believe that certain members of society will always seek out real quality and as time goes by we will see that good taste will prevail. Class has less to do with "what one can afford" these days and more to do with the good taste that you acquire (IMO).
Cheers,
JTW.
