My budget 'Pinks'

Post by enigmata_wood »

These are adapted from white, heavy cotton twill chinos.
I bought them extra long, for £2, in a second hand shop, so I could use the excess length to make the flap pockets.
Rather than try to sew neat buttonholes I cheated by sewing buttons on the flaps and snap fastenings inside them.
Rather than mix my dyes together I used half a pack of Terracotta Dylon machine dye first to get the pink colour component.
I followed it with half a pack of Antique Grey colour. The reason for this was to get a slightly uneven coverage which gives a nice illusion of wear and fading. in the third image [taken with a white fabric for reference] I have 'pushed' the colour contrast so you can see it. You'll also notice how the pink shows up in direct light but not in shadow.
total cost £11 !
Total time 3 evenings.

Great idea to create faux buttons on the pockets.

Well done work.

Great job, enigmata_wood! I , too, recently found a pair of budget Indy pants at a nearby thrift store. And though the tag (which can be clearly seen in one of the upcoming pix) clearly states that they were $5.99, it happende to be half price day when I found 'em, so they only cost me $3.00!

They're 100% wool construction (just like the screen-used pinks) and made for Banana Republic stores originally, and have the proper front pleats, and in the right places. Like most dress trousers these days though, they lack the flap pockets. However, the cuffs (which are far to long on me) have plenty of extra material, and I, like you, had the same notion to create the rear flap pockets with that extra material. There's even an extra button sewn into the waist-band, so that'll get put onto the left rear pocket that lacks it's own button.

I've also included some close ups to better show the pleats and texture of the wool fabric. Did I mention that they're really comfy?
