Indy's arab disguise - the thobe

Post by Kredepops »

So I've searched and searched on this forum, but I can't seem to find a discussion on Indys Tanis Dig robes? I must've missed it somehow. I'm sorry if this thread is redundant.

Anyhow - anybody got some good pics, specs or other info on Indy's thobe? I only got these screenshots:

To me it looks like it's off white/light grey, open in the front with long sleeves. The turban and sash he's wearing are definitely whiter than the thobe.

I'm going on a holiday to Tunesia soon so I hope to find one there :) I might be persuaded to pick up a few for resale if I finde something really SA ;)

If you can find that would be cool I'm sure a few other might like one also!

Doc Rivere found the maker of the one used on-screen but unfortunately he isn't a member anymore.

Ah that's too bad :(

Well I can tell there's an interest in the thobe, so if I finde one in Tunesia that is SA or very close I'll pick up a few. I guess with a bit of haggeling they won't be too expensive.

I had mine made from scratch. My only real mistake was that I didn't shrink the raw material before having it made so it shrunk a bit too much after the first wash.

agent5, you pull off a rather good Indy look! :TOH:

You seem to "wear the clothes" instead of having "the clothes wear you".

You pull it off well, my friend. ;)

Really nice!! I like it. Wow, do you have a tutorial for how to make that turban? That must be ALOT of fabric.

Yea... It looks like most of, or a lot of the work went into the headpiece. That outfit is VERY cool, but it's one of those things that (for me) I just wouldn't have any place to put. LOL... I'd still probably pick it up if I had a chance though@

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Doc was caught stealing others work and giving credit to himself while making a buck on it as well as ripping off a bunch of people on a bad business deal concerning a replica Ark. Lots of money lost for many members. Sad really because I really liked him and his collection is insane. Lots of original props and tons of foreign Raiders stuff.

The turban is actually two parts. A tighter turban like Sallah's and a looser one that wraps around and hangs off of the other. It is a bit of fabric but there is a lot of wrapping to do. I don't have a tutorial and actually haven't worn this costume in years but if you just study pics and the film itself and then mess around with some of the fabric you'll get it pretty quickly. It's really not that hard. The hardest part will be trying to fasten the inner turban and you may need help for that. The outer one just tucks in without any fastening needed.

That was probably going on when I first got sick, so I missed the whole thing. Good thing too, I didn't need any extra stuff on my mind.
