Recently, a number of members have decided that the forum is an excellent place to host their personal photo albums. Fifteen or so photos per post is not a big problem. 50+ photos is. Also, we've noticed threads with multiple links to photos offsite to the point they've become page after page of links (some of which no longer work). Dead links on dead threads are one thing. Dead links thoughout a current running thread only create a traffic jam and bog it down.
With this, we have decided to update this established policy. This policy covers all new threads from this point forward. Any existing thread is grandfathered in ONLY if no "new" updates are done to it. If any additional photos or links are added to an existing thread, the whole thread will fall under this new policy.
PHOTO POLICY (AS OF THIS POSTING)
You will not post more then FIFTEEN photos per thread (not per post).
Not to exceed 640x480 pixels if possible.
You can also post links to photos as well. Again, per thread, not per post.
We highly recommend having ONE LINK to a page offsite to either your web page or
hosting service where the remainder of your photos are for viewing.
These photos must meet the requirements as set forth in this thread: viewtopic.php?t=9523" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Posting photos on this forum means you already have a public site you have hosting them. Use it. Many members do not want to open a thread only to have their computer bogged down by 58 photos of your new bullwhip.
There are a couple exceptions to this rule. The first is official Summit Scrapbook threads (like Finger Lakes and Queen Mary) where the thread will be started/created by a Staff Member or other threads created by the Staff for a specific given purpose. Any other types require prior authorization from the Staff. These would be tutorials or threads with information valuable to Indygear's main site and/or it's members, or other types of threads again approved beforehand by the Staff. You must ask a Staff Member prior to starting these threads for approval before posting one of these mulitple photo/link threads, and state you had Staff approval in your first post in the thread as well, so the members are aware it's an exception.
If you have a thread where you have been updating new photos on a continuous basis, feel free to edit your original post by removing the original/outdated photos/links in place of the new ones. You may also want to update the title of your thread (i.e.: new photos added 5-22-2008!) and/or a bump post to alert people of the updates. But you must still adhere to the rule of no more than six photos total, no more than six photos links, and one link to your additional offsite photo page/site. This includes classified ads. This will keep the threads easier to navagate and read.
Those not following the specifications posted above will have their post deleted without comment by the administration.
Thank you

Re: New Photo Posting Policy as of Jan 20, 2018
With the uptick in photo posting issues due to the Photobucket fiasco, we are now enforcing the size restriction until further notice.
The site is now set to 640x640.
This allows standard image ratio of 4:3 (640x480, 480x640) available in most resizing programs.
The setting may be altered down the line to take into account newer technology and screen sizes.
