It's not all that old. Late '60s I think.Hatch wrote:That's nice looking RC how old is it ,have you treated it with anything............. ...
It's only been treated with an Aloe based leather cream.

Not that old? As you can tell, as we age, time is relative.RCSignals wrote: It's not all that old. Late '60s I think.
Base on the above, you do realize we're talking about a 40 year old jacket that still looks great, don't you? Your jacket is twice the age of several of the members here!
Regards! Michaelson
Re: Post your worn dark or auth goatskin jackets.
I don't know what people see in goat skin. It doesn't look good, doesn't feel good, doesn't smell good, doesn't age well, has no character. Personally I don't even regard it as leather - more as a biodegradeable plastic.

Re: Post your worn dark or auth goatskin jackets.
Seriously, moses? It's a HIGHLY durable hide capable of putting up with a lot of abuse. I can see exactly why the military would want to use it.
Re: Post your worn dark or auth goatskin jackets.
It does have character, it just takes longer to get there because it is so durable.
Really, in terms of drape and durability, goat is about the best hide to use if you're trying to blend SA and real world for an Indy jacket. And I have come across some goat hide that smelled fairly rank, the jackets I've had are much less strong in the olfactory department.

nice ToD pockets
Re: Post your worn dark or auth goatskin jackets.
Still looks like plastic to me. And I'm not saying goat isn't durable- I know it is. But I've never held a goatskin that didn't feel like plastic.

Here's Ernie, a WWII naval aviator, wearing his original issue goatskin M-422A.
After all these years both are still going strong.

wow. that looks great. I just love the way natural distressing looks.
Re: Post your worn dark or auth goatskin jackets.
That is not nat'l distressing. When he was issued it back in the 40's he took sandpaper to it to make it look like a jacket from a movie he liked!wow. that looks great. I just love the way natural distressing looks.
Re: Post your worn dark or auth goatskin jackets.
It may have been his first post, but he's been here since 2008 so it's safe to assume it was a joke or misunderstanding.Indiana Holt wrote:nee, geen biertje nu. vanavond? ja lekker.

Guys, Great pictures! Love Ernie's jacket! It really looks well lived in, but it is in an amazingly good condition for such an old jacket
Yeah, but which movie?coronado3 wrote:That is not nat'l distressing. When he was issued it back in the 40's he took sandpaper to it to make it look like a jacket from a movie he liked!wow. that looks great. I just love the way natural distressing looks.

Maybe it was Gunga Din released in 1939. In that movie, set in India, a scoundrel (Cary Grant) seeks to make his fortune (and glory) by plundering a secret golden temple belonging to the murderous Thugee cult (lead by a fanatical guru.)
Oh… wait…no leather jackets in that movie. It’s hot in India.

But prim British uniforms galore. And they didn't break a sweat until the fighting started. I'd be drenched just standing in those uniforms.Mac wrote:Maybe it was Gunga Din released in 1939.
