K-Box Sighting in HD

Post by Mac »

Recently, I was generating some frame captures from an HD broadcast of Raiders (recorded a few years back; with some difficulty I transferred it from the DVR to my hard drive) and I came across the flying wing scene. The K-box stitch was plainly evident, to me at least. Because this was from an HD broadcast and highly compressed, I don’t expect that this is anywhere near Blu-ray quality, but it is a bit better than DVD.

This was the best image I’ve seen of the stitching prior:

Awesome work again, Mac. You are a MACHINE!

I always thought this shot looked that way. In your face, K-Box doubters!

(j/k!) ;)

Did people think that X-box stitching was more accurate? Sorry I don't recall. It always seemed like the X was too long based on the screen shots I had seen

I will mention that both my Wested's have the X-Box stiching while my G&B has neither

I remember this shot was presented in a previous thread. The problem with it is where the strap folds, as it may or may not obscure the other half of an X-box stitch, but I think the general consensus was that it was most likely a K and that does seem much clearer to me in your HD shot.

I have done some work on this. you can see it in this thread.

it is far from proof, but it is something that catches my eye.

I am of the opinion that there is an X-box stitch (which is the only logical stitch in the whole world - other jackets have it too, plus all similar stitches everywhere are X-box) but in the shot of the wing only HALF of it is visible.

yes your right on that. but....... you can actually see the vertical stich that makes the box a half box.

Holt, as was said before in your thread: maybe some jackets did have the x-box stitching. Maybe that was one of the differing details between the jackets.

Mac,
Can you get a shot of the cap a few frames after this one where Indy has his arm up pointing?

Look at Mac's photos closely. Yes the strap folds, but the fold is clearly forward of the box. It is a "K" filling the box in those photos.
Those HD photos do 'clear' things up.

Thanks for the advice!

Now I'm in the same room as my 'puter, is it just me or do the diagonal lines of the K appear to curve away from each other rather than converge?

It might be just you

The lines of the 'V' part of the K might not be exactly straight stitching, it's hard to tell really, but I do think they converge at a common point.

A5, Indy's in motion and its a little blurred; this was the best frame showing the strap:

I checked that shot, but I can only make out a big blur - probably due to the compression used. Maybe VP's copy is better for that shot?

Nope, not enough detail. We need a scene where the jacket isn't moving.

All I can see in that HD shot is what bad quality the jacket is. Poor leather, badly cut, lots of wear showing how thin the leather is.

Isn't that true! Who'd want one of those?
