Westeds New 'Hero' Jacket

Post by Raider Of The Lost Ark »

Now I've been wary of mentioning this, as I did not want an early death in one of the famous 'bun fights' that occur here occasionally. The last one, over the leather, almost put me off completely, as I don't want to be the cause of arguments / bad feeling etc. However, another member has persuaded me to give it a try. I KNOW I need pictures but I am at work and will need to get home and take them, then learn how to post them. ](*,) I steped into the 20th century, just as the rest of you stepped into the 21st

Please help me keep this thread open :)

While waiting for the pictures I will describe it a bit for you, or those who are interested ;) It is described as the 'hero' jacket and has a 'Leather Concessionaires' lable. The sleeves are a little slimmer, than the previous pattern, and there are now gussets under the arms. The collar is bigger and you can pretty much do all the 'screen cap poses' I've seen. The pockets are also a little bigger than the 'standard' size previously offered. I went for some really nice softer goat, well to be truthfull it is the ONLY goat Wested do now. I could have had shrunkem lamb but wanted it 'tougher'. I also had the TOD tri glides put on it and it's got a brass zipper. The jacket 'moves around' a fair bit and I think 'falls off the shoulder' nicely. I really like it.

Now the other reason I was worried about posting was I was a little scared of the 'gear heads' here. Now I know they don't really bite  but I've been worried the jacket is a bit too long. Now this is mainly because my first one was SO short. I've seen so many great jackets here that I wonder if I'll ever be 'truely happy'. Hopefully all will be OK and you will like it and think it is SA (or such as it ever will be on me). Don't get me wrong I LOVE IT, I've just got it into my head that it should be shorter. I really should stop coming here  I'd VERY much appreciate your comments / feedback - good or bad.

Personally, I'm not sure I understand what you're posting. Are you saying you picked up an old Leather Concessionaires jacket recently? If so, ok. They were sold out there through Lee Keppler for several years before the company became 'Wested Leather', so they're not that rare, though you don't see them surface too often.

Are you saying you somehow got hold of a production jacket? If so, prepare for a weather event, as you well suspect. We'll do our best to keep folks civil (remember our zero tolerance policy now, folks [-X ).

Either way, if the jacket wasnt made for YOU, keep in mind, it may BE too long...or short...or what ever. It was made for whomever ordered it in the first place, not you, so don't let that bother you.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing the photos, and reading more information about your new acquisition! :M:

EDIT: In re-reading your post, it appears you had it made, right? Are they now inserting the old Leather Concessionaires tag again? Interesting if that's so! It's the tag that puzzles me. Once again, who cares if it's 'long or short'. If it fits YOU, wear it proudly! It's your jacket, for heavens sake! ;)

Or are you saying this is a modern Wested remake with a "Leather Concessionaires" repro label?

Sorry for being unclear. It is one of Westeds NEW Raiders paterns. It has the LC tag as Peter feels it is appropriate for this new 'Hero' pattern. It was made a few weeks ago for me. I get stressed about the length as since I've come here SA is big on my mind. I was never this obsessed before. You should have seen what I thought was an 'Indy' jacket before :)

Even without seeing the pics, the jacket looks too long on you....the pocket dimensions are off.....the collar stand looks wrong, the storm flap is too wide, and the zipper teeth aren't spaced evenly......hey, I'm just getting a head start.

Man... if this is a new pattern from Wested, I hope, HOPE they may use it on my jacket that is being made. I mean, it would be the worst if I get mine, and a day or so later BAM new jacket pattern at Wested on the site ready to roll, that is SA. Hopefully its the new custom ROLA pattern. Either way, its cool if they have this coming, and the Leather Concessionaires tag is pretty cool too. Anybody have anymore info? Jude... sounds like you may?? :[ May have to ring them again today, even though I called yesterday

No as far as I understand this is a new jacket option like the TOD the LC/CS and Raiders its not a different pattern on the current Raiders. It is a whole New Jacket option

OK, I thought it was a copy of an original Raider's jacket because those were made of shrunken lamb.

I guess this will finally put that issue to rest and people can agree the originals were in fact made of a shrunken hide! :D

And when or where did you read here that Peter got ahold of an original jacket? If you thought his new offering was copied from an original, what then gave you that idea?

I'm not goofing around and I'm nowhere near upset or anything, just asking a question.

If people start anticipating things getting "ugly" then some will simply see things that way and they most likely will. I am not. We still can have discussions around here, right? I'm not getting the anticipation of things getting out of control. Half the time they aren't anyways but that's just how "some" people preceive it. Just...PLEASE don't jump the gun and assume we're all fighting instead of having a conversation or simple debate. One can always move to another thread if one feels it's not sweet enough for you.

It's Friday and a 3 day weekend. There is very little that can upset me right now.

Many smiles. :D :D :D :D :D

Gotta love the 3 day weekends 5. We just had one last week, and it was excellent! Enjoy it!
This new jacket news is a nice surprise on a Friday, looking forward to seeing it.

I can believe that, considering how many jackets, shirts, whips etc. people go through to get the right one for them.

And for those who either think they are being funny or just doing the things that they complain others have done in other threads.... it might be wise to set a new standard by not acting this way.

It would be nice to have threads without little cut downs... on both sides of the field. They are JUST jackets....

That is the most sane thing I have read in the jacket forum for a while! I mean, who really cares who makes it as long as YOU like it and it fits your frame.

Photobucket is quite easy....
1st. set up an account
2nd. download pics to that account from "my photos" on your computer (I recommend sizing them to 480 X 640 in your picture gallery before you put them on photobucket if you have dial up- it is faster)
3rd. run your curser over your newly dowloaded pic and you'll see the link codes pop up - select the bottom one (it copies automatically)
4th. post the link into your wested thread!!

Now lets see those pics! :D

Someone with free time should write a nice step by step tutorial for posting photos using photobucket, sticky it, and then it can be referenced in any ;0 thread for the technically challenged.

The pattern is copied from TN - from Chris King's Nowak to be precise. Peter told me so himself a couple of months ago that he'd made a lambskin copy of Chris' jacket and that he was sourcing a new hide for his "hero" jacket.

Yes I missed something too ! but todd really updated his pattern I saw tis picture yesterday in another thread:
To set the record straight, I do own a Nowak jacket (I'm wearing it right now) and I did study it. I made a few tweaks to my pattern. But my jacket pattern is not a literal copy of Tony's. I realize that the jacket Tony made was patterned from only one of the film jackets, and was not identical to the others. Truthfully, I don't think the original Tony copied was cut that well. I don't want to copy it 100%. Tony was meticulous in replicating the good with the bad (Thanks, Tony!) I took two or three details from it and retained 95% of my old pattern, as I felt it better represented the other film jackets that got more screen time. There were many areas where my pattern already matched Tony's as well. They were far more similar than different.

It's still my own pattern - just a few small tweaks, that's all. As a matter of fact, I have made tweaks everytime I have a new batch run. In addition, my manufacturer continues to find better and better leather.
